Following our fantastic December party with the legend that is Ashley Beedle. Out of the Gloom returns on January 8th 2010 with groove aficiando Sean P and returning to Out of the Gloom, Niles from Cosmic Disco. As ever, our superb residents Chris E and Gavin Hayes will also be an addition to your aural pleasure.

Both Sean and Niles will be embracing the 'no music policy music policy', playing anything from disco to jazz, funk to house, soul to pop and anything in between. All served up in the wonderfully apt Voodoo Lounge. Expect a fun loving crowd of smiley, happy, dancing music-lovers!

Sean P

Sean has been a face on the London music scene since the 80s, taking the counters of some of the city's leading record shops. Sean is famous for his encyclopaedic knowledge of soul, funk, disco, boogie, rare groove, jazz-funk and jazz. Bill Brewster, co-author of the book 'Last Night A DJ Saved My Life', described Sean as someone he would call if 'I ever had a question'. The Idjut Boys call him 'The Knowledge' and many others think of him as 'The Black Music Oracle'.

Sean has contributed rare source material and sleeve notes for various re-issue projects. Most famously compiling the 'Disco Spectrum' series for BBE with Dave Lee (Joey Negro) which is an education worth looking out for. Also the seminal 'Disco (Not Disco)' compilations which featured punk disco from the likes of The Clash, Yoko Ono and Ian Dury, had Sean's hand and are regarded by many as genre-defining. They are also thought to have provided a vital spark from which the Electro-clash movement was set ablaze.

Sean has also assisted with articles for Record Collector magazine and is highly respected for his re-edits of rare disco gems (like 'Hungry' by Sandy's Gang, issued in 2004 on Tirk), which has been greatly appreciated by an ever-growing number of DJs who are discovering (or re-discovering) the hidden treasures of 70s and early 80s. Sean has also recently moved into the specialist field of audio restoration, utilising the Cedar Audio system to 'clean up' source material for a list of prestigious clients.

Perhaps a little less appreciated than some of his contemporaries, you will rarely hear anything but praise for Sean as a DJ and music-lover... he is the epitomy of the DJ's DJ.

Sean promises to play a wonderfully diverse selection of music at Out of the Gloom, you will hear his rich heritage of black music sing.

Niles

No stranger to Out of the Gloom, Niles played a fantastic guest spot back when we were doing weekly Sundays at Dry Bar.

Niles recently listed Sean P as his favourite DJ so we decided he would be the perfect candidate to also join us on the night.

Niles is a member of Manchester's excellent Cosmic Disco collective (www.cosmicdisco.co.uk) and was formerly a resident of cult house night Casa Musica. He has been playing at events in Manchester for years and has a wealth of knowledge, plus a fantastic music collection spanning many genres.

We are really looking forward to Niles' second appearance at Out of the Gloom and know he will perfectly fit into our eclectic style.

Ahead of our massive Manchester party next weekend, read my interview with Sean on the OOTG website: www.outofthegloom.co.uk

Tickets are still available from www.skiddle.com and from manchester's picadilly records.

Bring it on! x

Niles has provided us with an excellent guest mix for the website, ahead of his appearance at Out of the Gloom on Friday. It's a lovely collection of boogie tunes, some of them obscure to get some of you scratching your beards... but aside from the tune-spotting, I've been dancing to it all weekend, it's absolutely fantastic!

Enjoy! x

OK, folks, after much soul-searching and deliberating we have decided not to go ahead with Out of the Gloom tomorrow. We have been frantically checking the weather reports & public transport information, we think it may be too difficult for some people (both our crowd and staff at the club) to get into the city centre, what's more get home at the end of the night.

We want Sean to have the best possible OOTG experience, with as many people there to show him the respect he deserves and for him to be presented with a packed dancefloor of our regular smiling, dancing crowd. As things are at the moment, we think this is much more likely to happen when things are back to normal in the city centre.

We have asked both Sean and Niles if we can rescedule in a couple of months time, so this event is postponed rather than cancelled. We all still think it has the making of an excellent gathering so watch this space for a reconstructed date!

Apologies to all who planned to come along. For those that have already bought tickets, we are happy to refund immediately or alternatively, you can keep your ticket until our February event where on presenting your ticket you will recieve a refund and free entry to the club that night.

So our recommendation is to stay warm this weekend, get some mulled wine on the go and listen to Niles' excellent mix on the OOTG website instead!

Sally, Chris and Gav x
