Hope this works.

Left is Shaun Palser (Coming to the reunion), Bob Murdoch, Me with a gob full of chips, Kev O'Donovan (Wally) from Bristol.

The Mod couple Kev is chatting to may be from Bradford?

Due to the great response to the event, the owners have given us the whole club for the night, which means we now have three rooms, so...................

The third room is going to be 'Spirit of Stafford', hope your happy James.

Dj's

Butch, Andy Dyson, Mick H, Soul Sam, Malayka and some bloke called Thorley.

Glad you approve mate

Dave

PS I know I keep saying this, but get your tickets now, as they are selling out fast.

since when have you actively saught approval David?

on much more serious note Mr T - does wearing velvet give one some kind of superhero powers - or does it just ensure that you are frequently touched? Me and Ady L did hatch a plan last week to both wear a velvet cape in your honour - but I may have changed my mind as I have a bit of a history with capes and can feel a H&S violation ensuing.

reet looking forward to easter Sunday - if only to remind everyone (except Malayka who is unfairly young) that I never went to Stafford because I was still in the girl guides while you were all sporting tashes and sweatbands and burgundy crush velvet whistling.gif

That seals it then, the dress code is officially velvet and moustaches, maybe with a touch of patchwork. Mr Lupton and his assorted chaps can just wear their normal smoking jackets. Oh Kirsty - I see you're already sorted on the tache then...

Nice. Should do the trick, smart addition.

Without it I'd have felt more at home wearing a pair of gym shorts at one of Ian Levine's school reunions ph34r.gif

Have decided not to chance it (despite all Beggsy's press-ganging @ Nicolest'other wk-end).....I daren't! Daft maybe, but I have such fab memories of Stafford I just dont wanna spoil em. T'was & always will be Top (of the world) in my head so best leave it there. ...

Have fun despite my 'spoil sport' attitude peeps!thumbsup.gif

OK, I find this all rather amusing. Stafford was controversia back then and still seems to be now. Had a mixed response to the third room 'Spirit Of Stafford', some say great addition, some say it's not needed.

l usually run an autocracy, but would really like everyones feed back, we could cancel this room.

Thanks

Personally it doesn't bother me either way, but as I have already said, without it being run in the true spirit of what Stafford stood for and what made it special in the first place (I assume) I'd feel more relevant wearing a pair of gym shorts at one Mr Levine's school reunions.

IMAO, as you've sold the tickets already, you should keep it autocratic, tell em how it's going to be, don't let the masses dictate wink.gif But I fear that to close the room now would be to hammer a nail into Stafford's coffin and cement the irrelevance of it's original spirit to today's scene.

Only reason I gave an opinion in the first place is because you asked for opinions about what was wanted and I was concidering going, but the more I thought about going the more I realised that without the true spirit of Stafford burning bright the thought of Keb and Guy playing out of a box of carvers and bootlegs at a reunion does not appeal to me in the slightest. Personally speaking, as someone who didn't go to the original venue.

Looks like it'll be a good party though, I'll probably be missing out on a lot of fun. I guess that's one of the down sides of being an arrogant opinionated c$nt with uncompromising and at times irrational principles... sad.gif

I hope the third room stays

I bought a ticket but then regretted it when thinking of it in the cold light of day.

I'm not really interested in the retro thing, I quite like whats happening with today's scene,

therefore the third room, with it being the spirit of Stafford should imho be good thumbsup.gif

Dave,

As on of TOTW diehard fans(as you know i never missed, with Jonathan even having the curtesy to be born in the early hours of Friday 09/01/86 so i could still get me Stafford in while he was in hospital with mum) i think the 3rd room is "good to go"

As a showcase for todays top drawrer DJ's who were inspired by what you were all doing then it pays a great tribute, and may possibly get a few newer bod's in through the door, who i'm sure will then have a chance to visit all three rooms, and see what we were all up to in those crazy wonderful times.

All the best

Your principles are very irrational, and erratic, and changeable, to say the least James, currently. Your first post on here was interesting but now you seem to be just all about trying to score points on everything else.

I am definitely getting confused by your contradictions here, reading between the lines on here and on your comments on other thread you seem to flit about moaning about any true spirit of Stafford missing,(which was all about the music but also about the attitude of almost every person on the scene then, answering your very first post on here), but on the other thread and the Stoke thread you seem to be saying that it's the power of the actual party that is the important thing rather than the music now? How do you tie up the 2 opinions?

Maybe the rumour of you being in the pay of another promoter to be a spoiler*** is true, I can suggest a good book about Edinburgh football casuals that had a similar philosophy if you are interested.

*** Note I used the word rumour, not suggesting any truth in at all, nor my involvement in creation of any such rumour, and any legal action should be deflected to my lawyer D Findlay Esq., Blue Nose Lawyers, Criminal defence specialist.

I don't follow you. I think you've been spending too much time in secret shadowy internet illuminati-esque private message groups ph34r.gif

Besides, I don't see anywhere that my principles have been compromised or my opinions confused.

the real nostalgia is spending hours in the pub by the train station at the top of the hill!! god we spent hours in that place! happy times..

The Eagle?

The thing that would make it really nostalgic for me is a Donkey Kong machine in the foyer opposite the cloakroom, where i spent many an off the box hour missing all the music up stairs.... ph34r.gif

That's a shame Nige. It would have been fun to get the train to Stafford, have a few drinks in the Eagle and then walk to the TOTW. Just like the old days. I'm coming over all nostalgic

I foolishly chose to use cats from Thailand, thinking less cost, however 3 weeks later mom dad and 40 kittens turned up...and the whole flea circus dissapeared into their fur, had to fire em from a cannon into the canal in a tied sack with 2 bricks inside

Catastrophy!!

I almost cried at this, Paul you should get a job with Simon Bates!! x

If by chance the third room has to be canceled due to the soul police, can we have a Cat Circus in there instead? Goes without saying that every cat would be imported from the U.S., rare and unseen by UK cat fans...... well can we!!ph34r.gif

Hey, Kirsty if you were in the guides then you should have gone Stafford etc. I started going to nighters when I was 15! I had Burgundy hair not crush velvet.

I only went Stafford twice and one of them I didn't remember till I saw that documentary and I saw my mate who I was with that night standing behind John Pugh (who I didn't know then). I always thought I saw Eddie Holman somewhere else. That was back in the day when phet was phet!

Don't cancel it Dave, if people are going to be there, ticket wise then it'll give a good balance.

I dont think the main room should be all Stafford oldies personally. DJ's should be allowed to play some of their current (recent) spins too. If they're playing just Stafford sounds then it'll be just like everything you were trying to avoid to a certain degree. OK Stafford had dj's playing oldies too, but it seems a shame if dj's who are still active on the scene cant play a few of their newer spins. You never know those who have gone for the nostalgia side might like some of the new sounds that they've not heard??????

I'm only speaking for myself here but I still crave new 60's 70's etc. as much as I love the Stafford sound. Hey but I guess I'll be in a minority.

So keep the 3 rooms. The dj line up is bloody good in there with Mark, Andy, Mick, yourself etc.

It is a shame Pat Brady isn't on, then again no Clarkey either is a shame. That said, Ady Pountain will be great to see and of course Gary, Guy, Keb, Adam, Rob Salter etc. Not forgetting John Pugh.

Can't wait for the night to see a lot of old faces and some good friends who are still active.

Hi Mark

Staying firm on this, the whole point is to have original DJ's playing the tunes they played back then, for one night only a moment in time relived. The exception being John, he is there as there where more records played than time will allow on the night and he helped out at the last minute at the last one, so this is a thanks. Other wise lets just have another oldies thing, plus many of the tunes played on the night are still to this day underplayed gems.

Yes there are so many DJ's that graced the decks there, that are not on, Pat Brady, Richard Searling, Dave Withers, Soul Sam, Walls Brothers, Jolly etc, but again only so many hours availble.

We have tried to put together a night and a line up that is representative of the venue we all loved. We have also put together a line up that also demonstrated the diversity and imagination of the music players there.

Only so much you can do, I just want everyone that goes to have a great night, feel they have had value for money and for those that want it, a shiver down the spine. This was never about the money, but doing the best we could, a bit like the old event really. Put on a another oldies nite and make lots of money, why ? other people do that.

Dave

As i said that nught at Solihull, all you can do is your best, you cannot please everyone, or make them turn up....HOWEVER! those of us who did/do know nothing can ever tarnish what you did at TOTW and Bretby....that alone speaks volumes of you, and the dj's used....

Great to see a rarer than it once was sight, promoter pulling out all the stops, too many have become coplacent and lazy...

Dave, not that I'm nursing a bruised ego, but only one Walls brother "graced the decks". And it wasn't him! angry.gif
