Thanks for confirming Andy ...Sean did mention it earlier in his post about Rod having had a copy ...tried to do a bit of research myself and came up with nothing so hey ho i'll concede and play it at York tonight and give the plaudits to Rod:smile:

What happened to Rod's copy ......does he still have it?? or was it his that went ended up on Tim Brown auction a few yrs back ??

Either way it's a top tune, if i do say so myself:hatsoff2:

Yeah, it will be snapped up. Like the ebay listing states a holy grail, only a handfull of copies known to exist, and like the one John Manship auctioned last month as he said the only copy John has ever seen !!!!!.........Thanks to my mate Paul Havakin from the legendary Greatstone Soul club for putting me onto this..

It was certainly hammered at the time Simon.

I used to throw my shoes at the Radio whenever it came on! aggressive.gif

The original has always been a fave.

Larry Hancock - Great vocal!

Good choice guys.

Nothing new - but tunes that sound right for now and relatively unknown/underplyed:

  • Richard Knight - Show Stopper - Allen
  • Auditions - Get Set, Be Ready - Freckles
  • Sonny Dave Daye - Merry Go Round - Ring O

Regards,

Greg. hatsoff2.gif

Agreed on the sonny dave daye. A great record that could appeal to both main hall and R n B room.

Here's a couple i would hope to hear more of in 2010, at least.

Eddie Holman She's Beautiful Don-El....known yes but quality and underplayed.

RnB/Soul wise Sarah Vaughan Oh Lover Roulette......(on the back of her Mama success from 2009 plays, this one is, for my money, an improvement on mama and it's flip one mint tulip...even).

RnB/Soul wise again....the Squires Walkin' Herald.......( A chuggin' up-tempo RnB dancer..that will please mmmmany a dancer)

Also have a couple of later suggestions to run by you later. Gonna see if i can suss this sound-file business before i try.

regards mike

EBONYSTIC-AINT IT GOOD TO YOU-SCREAM

Great choice Steve - Always liked this one - a last hour occasional spin from Colin Curtis at the Mecca and a favorite record of my old mate Shelvo from Leicester - got one of these from John Anderson in 1976 and still play it regularly today - great ballad on the other side too !

One from me - another ex Mecca last hour spin which deserves more exposure is : REO LANE - GIVE ME YOUR LOVE - BREN

Take care

John

The Ebonystic has been big for us in Milwaukee for 2-3 years now. Actually probably a better dance record than the Billy Byrd, although maybe not as strong of a tune.

He probably still has it. I know he was collecting the output of Willie Bollinger and from memory he had something to do with Small Society :shades: I think he also reviewed it in one of the old Voices...if I can find it I'll post details up

Don't know if this ever got played cos it's a bit slow but Gene Taylor - You Got My Nose Wide Open on Minit under the control of Bobby Womack is a sublime bit of crossover. The flip Dont Go Away is a fantastic bit of deep too.

Great choice John. I did a review of it in Shades of Soul a few years ago in the crossover section. Both sides had Womack involvement from memory

There was a couple of unissued tracks that got one play only at Essence last year that deserve more plays, "Tommy Tate-You Want Me", the old Otis Clay album track with superior vocals that snuck out on Garry Capes label recently and "Sam Dees-Gimme A Little Action" still unissued.

Andrew.

The Scott Three - Running Wild - March........had plays the latter half of last year by Steve G, but a couple more copies have surfaced ( whistling) which will hopefully give it greater exposure in 2010.

Holidays - Cover Up..........Blinding proppa Northern Soul.

Relatives.........as Brett quite rightly says one of the best releases of last year, had plays, but now uncovered etc will reach epic proportions in 2010, certainly deserves to be huge.............

Happy New Year

Russ
