NEV
Hi all The snow did it's best to spoil yet another of my favourite event's but the show went on regardless Decided to take the train and book a room to ensure we got to this one but sadly quite a few were'nt so lucky. It was the 1st time for my good lady so i was looking forward to showing off the new venue in all it's glory Arrived outside ,after having a nice meal at a nearby hotel....to find the newly built ,all mod con's ,function room,in total darkness Had to check twice to make sure we were at the correct place????yep it was deffo the right place. Sadly due to the bad weather ,the club had no rugby game on ,so sent most of the staff home ,which meant there were only enough staff to work the old building. Yes it was back in the old room for the night....with lot's of portable heater's to keep us warm. After the initial disapointment of not being able to show my good lady the new venue ,it was onward's and upwards. Not the busiest night due to number's down becasue of the severe weather but still enough in to make for a good night's soulin. Big thanks to Tony and Tracey for having me behind the decks and for making us very welcome,as usual Thanks to Don and Chrisse (the only other N.easterner's to make it)for the good company And last but not least Dale for being a gentlemen and driving us back to the hotel ,which would have been a 10 minute walk in the freezing snow. Playlist for me :- BOBBY REED- I'LL FIND A WAY MARLYNN'S - COME BACK FOUR GENT'S -YOUNG GIRL'S BEWARE HOLLYWOOD SAXON'S -LOVING YOU MARLYNN'S - THE VERY NEXT TIME SPECIALS -EVERYBODY SAY YEAH MOSES SMITH - COME ON LET ME LOVE YOU FOUR ANDANTES- HIPPER THAN ME HOLLYWOOD FLAMES - DANCE SENORITA CONSTELLATIONS - I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU JESSE FISHER - YOU'RE NOT LOVING A BEGINNER CHICO LAMARR - WHAT DO YOU THINK I AM WILLIAM CUMMINGS - MAKE MY LOVE A HURTING THING KINGS OF SOUL - IS YOUR LOVE FOR ME SMALL SOCIETY - IF YOU STAND BY ME THOMAS EAST -FOLLOW THE RAINBOW SPARTANS - I DON'T NEED ANOTHER LOVER CYNTHIA BROWN - HEAVEN MUST HAVE SENT YOU ( TRIBUTE TO A SADLY MISSED JERRY BROWN) Let's hope the snow clears for February Link to comment
hullsoul
T n T Pity about the numbers & change of rooms (still like the old room),suppose it was only to be expected that the numbers would be down with the weather & it just been after New Year. For those who did make it we were treated to the usual high standard of tunes & friendly atmosphere. It was a pleasure to hear both Don & Nev sets, quality all the way from both of them So great start to 2010 & looking forward to February already. Cheers Martyn & Lynn Link to comment

Andybellwood
Ok so numbers were a bit down and it was temporarily back into the old room, but once again one of the best nights of quality soul around. The two 'unassuming' guests (bet you've never been called that Nev) simply let their play boxes do the talking with some truly exceptional 45s - many new to me - which is how I like it (still drooling when I read those play lists). Usual top notch sounds from residents Trev, Tony & John. Many thanks to all for a great start to 2010 SOULGALORE @ Crofton Community Centre, Middle Lane, Crofton Wakefield. Suzannek
Was absolutely gutted I couldn't make York Soul Club, but the snowy weather was and still is atrocious where I live Looking at the playlists there was superb music played and our North East lads Don and Nev did us proud. I will definitely be there at York for the next one. Suz x Link to comment

Guest Marsha Gee
Reading thru em is no substitute to hearing em Its like reading the lyrics to a song and never actually hearing it That's very true and there are a few on John's List that I haven't heard before. So, I then try and find a sound track of them. I have heard John DJ many times and always enjoy reading his playlists on SS. Yours was also impressive to read through Nev. Thank You, Marsha x Link to comment
