Guest CoolJerk Posted January 11, 2010 Share Posted January 11, 2010 (edited) North Lancs Soul Festival 2010 Morecambe, Lancashire, England Friday 21st, Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd May North Lancs Soul Festival Website The seaside resort of Morecambe in Lancashire is home for the Seaside Side Soul Club who organise the North Lancs Soul Festival event and the resort provides a fitting backdrop to this festival of soul played out over 3 days in May. It's a reasonable priced weekend up in North Lancashire, where the air is wonderful and the sunsets remarkable, and all you'll need to fork out for is your accommodation and refreshments, as this is a "free" festival. The organisation for the 2010 Festival is now well underway, and as you know we are always looking to improve the festival year on year, and we'll certainly attempting to do that for 2010. "The principles and ethos of this special soul festival remain the same for 2010." It's where soul people come together from across the UK to create a unique celebration of soul music. It's one of the friendliest, and most feel good music festivals on the annual calendar. The Seaside Soul Club & Morecambe play host to the festival which incidentally is operated to a cost neutral budget. The weekend is therefore advertised to the public as a free weekend so we do not charge entry fees at any of the venues. This entirely free festival is possible due to a collection of passionate soul DJ's from radio and soul clubs throughout the UK who give their time and energy to make this event happen. Although free, this event it simply oozes quality. It will be weekend of "Sunday Soul" selections, crossover gems, 60's soul, 70's modern movers, northern belters, beered up monsters and mid tempo madness with some mecca/soulful dance spins thrown in. Just about everything soulful you can imagine. It's at this point that we can now confirm we have a booking agreement on the use of Smokey O'Connor's for the whole weekend. Smokey's has the possibility of a four-roomed venue that we intend to make use of to the best of our ability. This is a central venue and has good close access for pubs, clubs, accommodation and shops, although parking around the venue is limited. It's planned that a new dance floor is to be installed in the ground floor room specifically for the weekend, although to my knowledge no one did mind carpet dancing in that room during 2009. The 1st floor room is now also available to us, where we may find something positively quirky going on from time to time, and of course the top floor is also available, where a recent extension and refit to the staging of the main Concert Room has just taken place. We also have a small snug room available to us within the venue as our 4th room, where in the afternoons early evenings we plan to show DVD's of some classic soul concerts & films. Timely for those that may need a breather. We can also accommodate record bars for those of you wanting to sell and deal records and cd's, so just let the festival office know if you plan to, and we'll look to reserve some space. Room opening and closing times have not yet been finalised, this will depend on DJ confirmations and the outcome of a 3am closing weekend extension we are currently applying for.
