Well what can we say about Mr G,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

A stalwart of the soul scene in South Yorkshire for longer than most of us care to remember, Derek is currently well known for his Popular Oldies & Motown nights at Barnsley's Trades & Kingstone clubs (co-promoted by Tom & Dean) .

Atracting record numbers and probably responsible for keeping the venues afloat Derek and co have it seems hit the right formulae of musical choice and guest line up to keep the masses happy. Affectionately referred to as 'Two Tons of Soul' Derek and Tom Wheelhouses double decking sets are well known throughout the region and have gained them guest spots at many venues througout Yorkshire and beyond.

However, having known him for near on fourty years I for one know that Dereks musical interests lie much deeper than the tried & tested oldies route, so with that in mind, and also the fact that his record room is overflowing with, what are to me, and many others I'm sure, many many rare and underplayed gems just begging for an airing, we approached the affable Mr G with the prospect of a spot at the Friendship Rare Soul Sessions.

And he said Yes!

So a Very Special Guest appearance, and a musical diversion From the man himself.hatsoff2.gif

Remember though - Not Another Oldies Night! a chance for DG to dig deep and surprise us !wicked.gif

Hope you can join usthumbup.gif

Well can you beleive the first time my mate Mr Greenhoff is on at the friendship night at kingstone and where will yocky be 100 miles away at the blues weekend at skeggi but not to worry because i have been looky enough to have the pleasure of his company at his home and boy as he got some sounds ready for the 30th at kingstone.Like Mark said Derek as been in this game a long time and his knowledge of the scene is as good as anybodys i know and he as some top sounds.Wish i could be there but he promises me he will play his spot back to me the therapy after the 30th.it just leaves me to say have a good un and go with your lugs open you just might be supprised all the best the Yockmiester.

I will be definately making this one .

I , like you Mark , have know " Mr Barnsley " - for more years than I care to remember , and I have great respect for Derek , both as man and as a DJ .

His record knowledge is second to none , hence the deserved standing and appreciaton he has on the scene , and I am sure that what he pulls out of his collection will be essential and worthwhile listening .

the Yokster has apparently been privvyph34r.gif to a sneak preview of what may hit the decks Malc so it sounds like 'the essential & worthwhile listening' tag will be justified good.gif

You do know that 'The Old Dears' were two of our greatest supporters in the early days Tom, dont think they missed a night for the first 2 or 3 years

Be nice to have them back, they will maybe hear something that they can add to their playlists:innocent:

:good:and yes, Im sure Mr Newton will be putting in an appearance
