It opened on one of the anniversaries....And as said Steve Whittle played The Snake thumbsup.gif

The first anniversary. As mentioned in another thread that corner by Ms door was "The Ormskirk corner". Somthing that was ruined once Mr Ms opened. First DJ was probably Alan Cain or Kenny Spence. The Snake was a big sound again in the main hall about the same time, as a Reactivated oldie.

Think that the record that got the most dance-floor reaction in there was Psychadelic Soul-Saxie Russell :hatsoff2:

Could there be any better feeling than being in M's about 2am, 1976, on the dance floor, the stuff kicking in, and Saxie Russell playing! Pure exicitment, happy day's!

A oldie.g.gif

Yeah but all the great records are old!! Even 70's Modern is 35 years old!!! And when a record was played in M's as an oldie, it was probably only 10 years old!!

Its all relevent to what you know!!

but first record i did hear when i walked thru the doors of the casino was around late 76 and it was the newbeats - crying my heart out, never forget that moment, it was so surreal for a mere 15yr old

Loved sitting on the the balconny right above the DJ's in Mr M's as a young sprogg trying to look at what labels of the next spinn was been putting on the deck. As i was getting more educated i was also trying to guess what the sound was going to be [the obvious labels you could see were the likes of Gordy, Okeh, A B C Parount. But like i've said numerous times, in my early days these oldies were new to myself and many more. So me for one, i will never slate the oldies as this was part of my learning curve. Don't get me wrong. some rsounds do get hammered to death but there's thousands of oldies that can still play there part to attracting new folk to the scene even today. Mr M's , The Main Room and lets not forget the Beachcommber were all part of what made the Casino what it was.

LOVED THIS SOUND ALSO WHEN FIRST HEARING IT AT WIGAN.I SUPOSE SOME OF THE PURISTS WOULD SLATE THIS SOUND, BUT TO ME SOUL COMES FROM THE HEART. WE ALL KNOW WHAT THE SOUND SYSTEM WAS LIKE AT THE CASINO BUT ! IT WAS MANY MOONS AGO AND TO ME IT SEEMED WHEN IT WAS PLAYED, IT WAS WITH PLENTY OF BASE TO TRY AND SOFTEN THE HIGH PITCH VOICES OF THE NEWBEATS. There's a COPY ON E-BAY FOR LESS THAN 3 DOLLARS WITH ORIGINAL FACTORY SLEEVE IN VG + CONDITION WHICH MUST BE A GOOD BUY FOR SOMEONE. I MAYBE WRONG CAUSE LIKE I SAID IT'S A LONG TIME AGO BUT CAN ANYONE ENLIGHTEN ME TO WETHER THERE WERE INSTRUMENTAL VERSIONS OF THE NEWBEATS - RUN BABY RUN AND BOBBY HEBB'S -LOVE, LOVE, LOVE SPUN AT THE CASINO AROUND 1974-75. OOOH- OOOH- OOH OOH I'M CRYING THINKING OF THOSE HAPPY TIMES, Regards -Pecker.
