The Carousel on Plymouth Grove Mcr circa 1986..first record I heard that I knew (spent all night freezing and not knowing one record until this point) was Landslide. Then I made a faux pas of asking Richard Searling for Tobi Legend at 3am..."It's a bit early love" was kind of what he said!

Troggs in Farnworth, 17th March 1973. The night the Torch ended.

Can't remember what the first record was that night though. A month later I was at the Va Va allnighter in Bolton & 'Winner Takes All' - Geraldine Hunt was being played as I walked into the club. This was my second allnighter.

electric ballroom, i think that was what it was called, before the Leics niters moved to the oddfellows. Horrible potholed tiled or clay floor as I remember it (without the charm and history of 100 club).

No idea as to sounds that night... but always associated oddfellows with the Vondells when I walked in, maybe selective memory?

Coalville Tiffs in early 78, did the full 12 hours 8-8 on the Friday. Driving home on the M1 the car broke down and had to get towed back to Mansfield by the nice man from the RAC.

Got in bed and was woken after about 3 hours by a knock on the door, it was my mates Mart & Bri - "come on we're going to Wigan"ohmy.gif

Set off from Mansfield at 6pm Sat and got back at 2 on Sunday afternoon after an epic bus/train journey absolutely Knackered (no chemical assistance - us being green as the grasshuh.gif ) Still managed to get up for work on the Monday at the pit.

On the bus to Manchester teamed up with Garry Churm, Rob Wigley and Dean Penford - all still doing it 32 years later.

First record I heard? Not a clueno.gif

my firsst allnighter was the Dungeon in Nottingham in 196? ish can't remember but I was still at school.........haven't the slightest idea what they played, bit before your Northern Soul........when records were just records

The first record I heard at a Dungeon all dayer was 'Reach Out' Four Tops ...you could get in if you weren't 18 in the afternoon as they didn't serve drinks. They didn't seem to mind at night maybe they couldn't see so well !!

Sue

just thought ..........there was a sign as you walked down the stairs about trains and I thought, young as I was, that the trains were above us!!! if anyone knows Stamford St in Nottingham they would be amazed

Know you so well but didn't know Coalville Tiffs was your first nighter. Very fond memories of Coalville but on public transport, bugger to get back from, used to have to sit it out in the bus station staff cafe. Must compare notes Steve. Record for me at Tiffs was French Fries.

First nighter for me was Nottingham Palais, I think '75, summer. Met up in bowling alley waiting for 2am, remember when it was common for nighters to start after disco clubs had kicked out? Sad thing is several of the lads I met with then are dead now. Records . . . . . walking up the steps past the toilets Idle Few, will never forget that, later being terrified by the men who could dance to So Is The Sun. Bought my first non-boot that night Just Bros, Sliced Tomatoes, still got it.

Wigan Casino an oldies night spring 1980. Not sure first record i heard but stuff like van dykes and terrible tom stood out to me , probably because of the bass . Even to me at the back of the floor (im hearing impaired) it was loud loud LOUD. Swear to god that building used to shake and the music must have surely seeped into its bricks and mortar . x

1986, November, 100 Oxford Street,

several pain in the arse changes on the train from Maidstone.

Fifteen, but Ady still let us in (and still does)

Court Davis 'Try to think what your doing' (when was the last time you heard that out??) from Roger S and Silky Hargreaves from 'the Master' Clarkie

Things would never be the same again.

Wheres the time gone?

A houseparty in Chapletown , Leeds in the summer of 1965 : the guy behind the sound system played a mixture of soul , r & b , ska , blue beat , and blues records . The next AN for me was The Wheel .

Was that before electric light was invented? lol

It was pretty dark in there as I remember Mark , and it had a very strong smell of marryjewarna in the

air , and I kept getting offered rum to drink .

Looking back 45 years , that first experience should have put me off for life , as it was to say the least a bit daunting for a lad of 15 , but I am glad to say it did not .

Yate in 78. Main guest was Soul Sam.

Cant remember for sure, but have convinced myself the first song I heard was Ben Zine - Village Of Tears, and the whole dance floor was clapping along.

Peterborough Wirrina some time during the steamy, hot summer of 76.

After the football (the old first division) it was a 'wander' bus ticket purchased from Norwich bus station for around £1.60 that got us on a double-decker at around 6.30 for a long trip to Kings Lynn where we had to wait for the connection to Peterborough eventually arriving at around 10.30.

Some people I remember from that first time - Alan & Eppy who had already travelled by bus from Bungay in Suffolk, Sam, Mobbsy, Kev Laws, Keith Dunhill, Smiler and Paul Cameron who because he was so smashed, smoked so much he got a massive yellow stain on his hand!

Don't remember the first record I heard 'cos I was very 'green' when it came to recognising tunes but through the night I recall hearing Stevie Wonder Uptight and Dean Parrish I'm On My Way (that one probably at the end) and one tune that I hadn't heard before but which I think was the one that got me 'hooked' and that was Freddie Chavez They'll Never Know Why....

Wigan Casino November 1974 to see Edwin Starr, don't remember the first record I heard though 'Thumb A Ride' always sticks in my mind. Memories include going in Dinks' coach from Winchester and stopping at Hilton Park services on the way, being crushed in the queue, going up the stairs and then being hit by the heat, the condensation dripping down the walls and seeing an amazing dance floor full of incredible dancers.
