Yeah been going just about every month for the last 2 years and watched the numbers dwindle month on month, lots of rumours for a while such as planners wanting to knock it all down or residents complaining about the noise etc. It would be great to see this venue packed again, looking forward to it already!!!! Good luck

Errrr, have you seen the Events section lately? Full of free publicity.

The only people who complain tend to be frustrated DJs and Collectors who are never going to get hired by the promoters that count.

Now back to the Longfield Suite.....it re-launches this Friday.

yes but most who advertise contribute to the site as well, the bold text about sums you up, how long have you lived in bury by the way ?

Anybody got anything to keep me awake.....it might be a long night.

Now.....let's make it a bit easier....we wish Barry all the best with his new venture in Bury.

Our revived Longfield Suite will be a million miles away musically.

Can I go to sleep now or must I look again ? Agh Mike this can be addictive!

I used to go to Prestwich quite often, great venue. Music wasn't always my cup of tea but had some great nights there socially, met lots of people there that I now class as friends.

I've been out of the loop for a few years, what happened to Terry and Lynne that used to run it? I hope I'm not opening up any cans of worms by asking that, I'm just curious that's all. If the answer is destined to open up said can of worms then please PM me with the answer.

Terry retired from the scene. Both Terry,Lynne did a marvellous job at launching the venue as 'must visit

first Friday'.

The promotion slowly declined for reasons unknown.

Goldsoul were offered the venue, in an attempt to revive it's interest. We have chosen to go for a mainstream Motown, Wheel crowd as Rare Soul/Crossover clearly doesn't work at a venue of that size.

Darn... And there I was thinking about hiring you and Coulson at the Kings Hall. Thought you would be admirable replacments for Butch and Ginger. Anyway, I respect your decision to stay hostile.

SORRY MR ROBERTS I AM NOT DJING ANY LONGER . I HAVE WORKED WITH GINGER IN THE PAST AND I'M SURE HE WOULD GIVE ME A GOOD REFERENCE. SPENT A LOT OF MONEY WITH BUTCH ALSO , ON A LOT OF BIG TUNES, TWO GREAT GUY'S .BUT IF I HAD ALL MY RECORDS NOW I HONESTLY WOULD NOT CONSIDER WORKING FOR YOU. ONCE AGAIN THOUGH THANKS FOR THE THOUGHT. TAKE CARE NOW. JIM.

Rare soul/crossover at Prestwich? When was that?

This new music policy sounds like very similar to Ian's at Stockport Guild Hall .....Sure he'll be pleased:whistling:

Yeah Mufc and live in manchester like most reds i dont hear anyone talking about city though except all these blues which hace suddenly appeared. soul politics is the usual bollocks soulies moan about when they go out instead of supporting local venues and enjoying themselves ( god forbid )

YOUR A RED AND LIVE IN MANCHESTER THATS COOL REALLY!!. NO PROBLEM WITH THAT MIKEY. AND I WOULD'NT JUDGE YOU COS I HAVN'T MET YOU. ANY ISSUE I MIGHT HAVE WITH ANY ONE CERTAINLY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH FOOTBALL THOUGH. REGARDING SOUL WHICH IS THE IMPORTANT ISSUE HERE, I DO AND ALWAY'S HAVE SUPPORTED LOCAL VENUE'S. BEEN TO PRESTWICH ON MANY OCCASIONS. I ONLY LIVE 10 MINUTES AWAY. NO DOUBT YOU ARE IN A GOOD MOOD AFTER THE RESULT IN ITALY ,WELL DONE.

I THINK THE NUETRAL FANS RESPECT OUR LOYAL SUPPORT,CONSIDERING OUR TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS OVER THE YEARS. THE FANS HAVE ALWAYS STUCK BY THE CLUB AND NOT RESORTED TO WEARING NEW COLOURS!!!!! TAKE CARE JIM

having watched the game im dissapointed that we didnt finish it , i think you and i and could have beaten milan they are that poor, as for new colours i leave that to the dreamers who forget they are only supporters and whoever takes over any club couldnt care less as long as they are taking money off them hand over fist. I wish your club well ( honestly ) but think that the players you have are only there for the money and nothing else. I think most clubs these coming seasons are going to find themselves in big trouble with second rate players being payed impossible wages. Anyway.........sorry love football but live soul music the point i was trying to make was that the longfield suite is a brilliant venue and it would be great to see it packed once again. last time i was there in december i think it was there was about 50 people in there it really was a pity for the people who put so much effort into setting it up seeing it like that. Only time will tell Jim.

Yes indeed a great venue that ussed to be a lock out.. Times change and people move on....

Can it get back its former glory when Terry and Lynn were in charge.... Time will tell...

Mr Roberts will always court debate, i know from experience  ...

Now you are in our little town Kev at least be kind enough to take Ginger off your advert if he aint playing.. It will only confuse us poor folk up this way.... :good:

Have a good one Mike and lets have some feedback after the event mate....

Enough of my chat, its bumping it up for you Kev :wicked: , what next???? maybe Easter eggs :P

I can remember those days of T&L when yes you used to see a long line of people waiting to go in , and the place buzzed . At that time ( and we are going back a few years ) Terry broke some great sounds that really did bring people back time after time and made Prestwich the place to be . The sounds were varied embracing old and new

The T&L team were also very experimental with their Dj's choices in bringing over guys from Germany and Sweden to name but two countries. Add to that the very popular modern room they had a winning combination for the time. One got the impression they would give most people a go if they felt they had danceable records to play.

We then entered into a period where soul clubs sort of doubled over night and I don't really know what caused numbers to start to fall , but they did and T&L decided to give up the venue to the next promoter with the hope that they would have more sucess.

I have only attended the Longfield maybe 5 times since the T&L days and I must say in my honest opionion based on my experience alone , it never recovered. It is such a big room to fill if you don't get a good numbers in the room can look very sad.

I also felt the main room had an idendity issue , early players would play the more adventurous sounds that maybe wern't the norm unfortunately not many would be around at this time to appreciate them, but in the main room "mainstream sounds were played between 10 and 2 , not sure what happened after that point cause I had left by 2 .

Also it felt like the mix of Dj's never changed ?

Going forward I think the new promoters have an uphill climb if I am being honest , but good luck with it and I applaude you for trying.

They say a change is as good as a rest who knows we may now have two venues giving great value out of the ashes of the old Longfield.
