That bottom one is local to me-The Carreras building in Camden-it is one of those odd Art Deco buildings with a heavy Egyptian influence.

Thats Greater London House aint it, opposite Mornington Crescent Tube.

After the Wellingborough all dayer, was invited to an after party at this lovely house in Kettering! (the one on the left)

http://www.flickr.co...N04/2971827212/

Thats just a few yards from where I live now, lovely houses but its only in the last few years have they been brought back to their former glory. At the other end of the town there is a huge Art Deco style Factory building, about 5 stories high, absolutely glorious, wonderful place that has been empty for as long as I've lived here (6 or 7 years). It reminds me of the old East Stand at Highbury. If I ever got those 6 numbers.....

Richmond tube being at the end of the line has meant that communters use the place heavily, giving British Transport (or whoever runs/own the tubes service nowadays) no incentive to refurbish the station. I was there last Saturday and the place could certainly use refreshing. Shame nice art deco thirties jobby.

This beauty was once owned by Diana Dor`s & is up for auction at a price guide of $4 / 6 million , not strictly Art deco or even a building but its a stunningly beautiful piece of design.

I also love the style of the Airstream trailers , i definitely think there is a lineage from art deco style to 40`s / 50`s / 60`s design of cars & scooters.

In 1934 a new scheme was prepared by the architect Oliver Hill and the management company Frinton Park Estate Ltd. This was to be called Frinton Park and was to be a ‘showcase of modern architecture’. The best land, near the sea, was set aside for the most modern design, in a style that was to become known as Art Deco. Frinton Park was unsuccessful because the house designs and concept were too modern, but ironically it is only the most ‘modern’ Art Deco style that was actually built and remains today.

Wow..amazing buildings

Sorry if been covered before, but any good Art Deco style buildings currently being used for soul nights in the UK?

Was a great building in Northampton (the old cinema top of Abington Street) which was converted for religious / charitable purposes some years ago...would have been an interesting venue. Should have been converted for this "other" religion IMO (Soul music!)

All the best, Steve.

Just up the road from us is the spectacular Aalsmeer Watertoren (water tower), which looks as if it could have come straight out of the film Metropolis.

It was designed in the Art Deco style by Hendrik Sangster and completed in 1928. It stands 50 m / 165ft high and dominates the horizon for miles around. It has been a listed monument for some years. In spring, Peregrine Falcons breed on the top ledges - an event that features in the local newspaper every year!

If you’re ever in London and at a loose end during the week go to the United Grand Lodge Of England in Great Queen St, just up from Covent Garden, and have a look round, the tour is free and you’ll see some fabulous Art Deco architecture and decor.
