Anglo Auction - Matta Baby

Recommended Posts

Does someone need a reality check here-unsure.gif

The Matta baby - Do the pearl Girl - Penny Auction item starting at £400

I assume this is not a joke but close to it. Pink & Perky on Fire at this price

£150 tops - For an instrumental thats rarely played out much. even if it had a revival its not worth half of the auction starting price.

Me & pete Smith had a bit of a battle on Ebay once for one of these and I sold my copy a couple of years ago for around £130

Its not easy to find I admit but to be an auction item is just ridiculous IMO

No, I think it has to be a joke. At the extreme end of the scale it might be £150, but you'd have to be either very rich or completely mental to pay more than that for it.

seems like there are plenty of people with both of those "attributes" around.interesting to see if it actually sells.while we are on about auctions-how come emidiscs from the seventies are now being looked at as ok to offer on the "open" market?

When they were used as another form of bootlegging, then thats how they should be treated. But they also did get used for legit purposes by major record companies.

Interesting one recently Dave - An Emi-disc of Lorraine Silver - Lost Summer love

How would you tell the difference forgetting usually they were made in the 70s with 2 sides but I had The Flirtations on a one-sided Emi disc - So that rules that point out!

Quite easy to fake as well.....one on the bay a week or so back was an old OKEH track, (cant remember what)on an emidisc :hatsoff2:

I sold my copy to Ian Gillabrand in the late 70s for about £8.

When Ian sold most of his records early 80s he got no takers on this, and let it go in a job lot for about £2

Times have gone truely mad if Tim gets anywhere near the asking price.

The thing for me is Should Tim be listing this as an auction Item and at a starting price of 400

This in my view seriously questions Tims credibility in regards to Auctions. yes its not easy to find but its neither a major rarity or in demand to even command half of that.

Im just Gobsmacked how far out he is with this one!

Something like

South Suburban Rhythm Section - Libras do it????

Dave I think it was titled Libras really do run it ! Regarding the Penny release it was played @ the Blackpool Mecca and I remember the place being "awash" with copies. Hardly a £400 record I'm sure.

Any more info on this ? Was it the same group ? What label ? How Much etc etc ?

Back on topic , can't see it getting anywhere near £400 , have been proved wrong before though ........The boot was on a green label IIRC ?

Getting back to the original topic. JM had one on auction some eighteen months ago as I remember. Made well over two hundred as I recall. Perhaps one fifty is a bit conservative by todays standards.

hey up dave how ya doing?.....it,s a crap £2 record anyway and thats very conservative by the standards of any era lol......see ya soon tezza:thumbup:

JM could get £100 for Bok To Bach by Sounds of Lancashire!

if manship gets over 200, how is 150 conservative? is manship's auction price the price that everything is worth more than? he gets top dollar.

No its not crap, its great Northern Soul!, and its no good looking at a record like this from 2010 perspective! get on the Wigan Casino dance floor circa !975 in the right mood!!!! and you will know why this instrumental B side masterpiece goes for money!

Still winds me up! Its got that something! can't explain it, you have to have been there!

Its Northern Soul, not Deep Soul!!

Correct! Great Northern Soul record.

Double agreed. A perfect instrumental that was designed for heavy all-nighter action!

I'm interested in this auction 'cos I do actually think this is a lot rarer then people may think. There weren't that many copies originally and it's one that doesn't seem to crop up that much these days. Sold mine for £120 a couple of years back.......

Sold mine acouple of years ago as well for about £130

Pete S has sold a couple of copies I think in the last 5 years and Ive seen others on ebay as well as the one on manships auction. Not sure how many on Popsike!

Still dont think its worth more than £200 tops so how you can start an auction at £400 for this beggars belief!

The baltimore & Ohio Marching band original W/D demo is far rarer than this and that wont command more than £20

I'd pay £150 for it now. That's it.

What amused me was the way a few years ago some people were making a big thing of collecting what they were terming 'acetates' - if you tried to tell them the difference in kudos and importance between an actual studio acetate and some poxey EMidisc they just couldn't get their head round it (including a certain 'well known DJ' who dimwits were raving about for playing Loving By The Pound 'off acetate' - despite the fact that everyone with a modicum of inside info knew full well had been cut from the Do The Crossover Baby CD).
