Nice site and some really good reading. Thank you!

Some contentious points though - eg "the Wigan Casino crowd, who were totally against anything that was released after 1965 being played on "the scene". I'm very far from being an apologist for all the crap that was played at Wigan, but in my experience most of what was played was post '65 soul music and a helluva lot of it had been played at the Mecca first, including loads of what could be termed "disco" ( thanks Dicky).

Look forward to your site expanding with pages for other legends - Shep Pettibone, Larry Levan etc etc. thumbsup.gif

Looking good, enjoying checking the reviews, reading the articles and listening to the mixes

I will hopefully get down from Thurso to a MDD party in Glasgow at some point. Had a great time at the Northern Disco party in Manchester when Rahaan was on. Gutted I missed the recent Theo Parrish gig due to work up here.

Cheers

Phil

OK, point taken. It's an exaggeration to illustrate a point I suppose. I'll try to find another way to word it.

very interesting, please can you explain the al kent thing thats going on, i,m now drunk and confused, just looked at al kent talking,? some one please explain as i,m missing something here

yep, now i know whats going on i think,

Ha, the Al Kent thing... One day a few years ago, when I was releasing a record with a dirty great Chic sample, the label guy phones and said I had to put a false name on it, and I had ten minutes to decide before it went to press. I started looking through records for something clever, but ran out of time and just randomly picked Al Kent, which was kinda cool for one release. But then it stuck. And I can't really get rid of it now! I wish I'd chosen something a bit better tbh

LOL, I spent years looking for some kind of hidden, secret connection between a Disco Digger from Scotland and the legendary Soul producer and artist from Detroit. I always thought there HAD to be a Northern connection and now you tell me it was just a random choice!

Site looks great by the way. Congratulations.

And well done for putting Quinn Harris "I'll Always Love You" on the "Disco Love" CD. A brilliant track which I actually found in L.A. in '76 along with Sweet Daddy Floyd. Have you heard the Fajado record 'cos I got that at the same time.....?

I think "Al" is just being modest, as a regular at Shotts etc. when Northern wasn't the overblown commercial enterprise it is now, Al (real name can be divulged if I get a big enough bribe  )was a pretty regular Northern guy who had pretty good taste in that field too, he has managed to keep the same integrity through his various musical incarnations too if you ask me.

Brilliant site "AK" and more importantly great mixes and great great taste in most things you do mate, good to see someone keep the quality vibe going.

Have I said enough nice things to be let into one of your Glasgow parties now, running the fear I will frighten the crowd with not only my dad dancing but my rapidly whitening hair, I could always ask Kerso to bring me as he has kept his youthful looks

Take care mate.

PS The name could have been much worse, thank god it was Ric Tic and not Golden World where most of the names are Female :D

When I say "random" I mean I didn't find the clever name I was frantically searching for, and "The Way You Been Acting Lately" was amongst the records I was looking through. It was a plain enough name to not sound stupid, so I chose that name. So yes, there is a northern connection. (I went through the same process looking for a name for my label; with the clock ticking I found the Rare Gems album and used that name in a hurry. I don't even like that album!). You'll find a northern connection to a lot of things I do.. Secret Sounds album, tracks called Keep The Faith, Magic Touch and Tenner rap for example. Not sure how many people got the tenner rap reference though

Re Fajardo - check the reviews page for the answer to that question; https://www.milliondollardisco.com/reviews.html

I really want that on 12" btw if anyone's seen such a thing.

Jock, you and Kerso are welcome any time mate. Compliments or not. Though the compliments are good too :P

I don't know - Juanita Williams might've been a good choice for a name?

Nope never seen the 12" - not sure if it even exists although stranger things have happened......I guess there's bound to be a fair bit of crossover with the Northern/Modern stuff from the early to mid 70's - it's a great area to plough for the sort of goodies on your reviews page......

Not sure if the 12" exists myself, but I've seen it reviewed on some site or other, though with no picture as evidence!

I was listening to the "Wigan Casino 70's # 1" recording and I don't actually think that's at Wigan. The DJ sounds like Martyn Ellis and I thought he only ever did the anniversary nights and even then he didn't play current biggies, just oldies. I may be wrong!

I'm almost certain that tape originally came from you, Pete.

100% definitely not one of mine, I've never heard that recording before, honestly - it was taking me a while to identify some of the tracks as well. (The only way it can have been one of mine is if someone sent it me and I passed it on without ever listening to it, which is unlikely)

Anyone else want to take a shot at who the DJ is?

* n.b. the one below it, from the last night at Wigan, IS one of mine
