yeah how much do u want for it

Sorry I didn't get back to you quicker. It is the 2nd issue as described by Itsthebeat. Thanks for info and I looked it up.

I would say ex- condition - plays fine. popsike has prices between £20 and £40. So how does £30 sound including p&p to UK and paypal ok if paid by Gift

Thanks

Mick

The 1967 UK Decca original of John E Paul has a larger print and the reversed matrix XDR 41387. Most people have the 1974 re-issue with a smaller print in their collections thinking they are the 1st issues.

Theres an even easier way of telling that that - on the reissue it says SIDE A on the left hand side. Why this reissue sells for above £10 is beyond me. The original is super-rare, in fact I've only ever seen one, I bought it off here last year for £80. Had 2 demos I think.

Do you have the exact 1976 release date for the John E Paul on Decca Pete?

Easy enough, just find out that last time it was played at Wigan and it'll tell you the date it was pressed. In fact I have it being played as late as april 77 so it must have been then. It hadn't even been discovered in 1974..

I heard John E Paul played at the Casino in 1974. I was there and remember it well. The question is, was the record re-pressed in the same year? I thought it was and the reason I asked whether you had the official release date for the re-issue.

Like I said, you are talking about Mickey Moonshine not John E Paul, first decca release of Mickey Moonshine is october 1974, then it was reissued in 1975 but I think with Baby Blue on both sides by mistake, then it was done as a reissue for the northern scene it late 75 with the correct sides.

Here's a link to one of the best and funnisest soul source threads of all time

Not mistaking Moonshine for Paul. Yes Mickey Moonshine was originally pressed in 1974 and re-issued 12 months later. I first heard John E Paul played at the casino in '74. It may have played at an earlier date, but I first heard it in this year. I believe the re-issues were around then and before '76. Need to find the official re-release date.

Fir f*cks sake, you're not usually this much hard work, there is NOT a proper reissue of John E Paul, it was pressed for the Northern scene as a custom pressing by decca in either late 76 or earlier 77, the reissues state Side A and Side B on them and if you heard it at Wigan in 74 then it must have been the only time it was ever played until 1976.

Be nice Pete! Whether referring to as a custom pressing or re-issue the later pressings of John E. Paul were pressed by Decca Records for the Northern scene. I am now told they were pressed in 1975 the same year as the Mickey Moonshine 2nd press.

Well whoever told you that is wrong. You know that as soon s records were pressed, they were dropped from the playlist, so why would they still be playing a pressing in 1977?

The Wigan dj's would stop playing a certain track as soon as it is re-issued , booted or custom pressed, but that does not mean that a particular track would not be played at a later date or even a year or two later. I am going on what I heard and saw at the time. John E. Paul was custom pressed in late 76' or early '77? Was this the first time you had heard the track played?

Now thats what a real one looks like.

hi all new to the site just called in the other night due to the fact that you are all talking about John E Paul. I had the honour of knowing John for a long time and still have contact with his family enjoyted many agood night whilst he was singing. He sadly died 6 years ago after a long illness just thought i might butt in with this info and attach this little memorial to a good man post-20605-12738479687715_thumb.jpg
