Solid Hit Soul London Friday 30Th April With Rob Smith Plus Loads Of Record Sales

Recommended Posts

Greetings all, hatsoff2.gif

Thanks to everyone who turned out for the last Solid Hit, an absolute packer with as good as quality underplayed/semi known etc 60s as you'll hear at any Soul night. I know it's a claim that many promoters may make but when the likes of Carl & Maria Willingham describe your night as one of their favourite you know that you're doing something right thumbsup.gif

Big thanks to Carl & Maria for yet again playing a tremendous set that kept the floor heaving throughout their set & thanks for all their kind words about our club.

Onto Friday 30th April for the next Solid Hit when we welcome Nottinghams legendary Rob Smith to the decks as our special guest for the night. Rob as most of you will know has been DJing on the scene going back to the 70s & has an absolutely awesome collection & currently is the resident DJ that closes the Lifeline Allniter.

Once again as with all of our guests that have spun a set for us we feel that Rob is going to offer that something different & together with all of our residents make Solid Hit a night well worth turning out for thumbsup.gif

Des has returned from the States with another haul of records & I'm looking forward to hearing what he has turned upyes.gif

Our last night in Feb was full almost to capacity, so if you're travelling any distance & think you may get there late please contact me to ensure entry...just to be on the safe sidehatsoff2.gif

Look forward to seeing you on 30th

Dave

No probs chaps, when I saw the Dublin weekender was on I anticipated that you 2 would be full of the Blarneythumbsup.gif

(I've actually hung upside down to snog the Blarney Stoneblink.gif not a pretty sight though I was a bit slimmer at the time)

Have a good weekend

Here's some directions from Liverpool Street station which is only a 3minute walk from Solid Hit & some hotels should you want to stay over. The Travel lodge at Aldgate is recommended by our long distant travellers from York:good:

DIRECTIONS

As you come out of the main entrance of Liverpool Street station onto Bishopgate, cross over & turn left past the Kentucky salmonella shop & the Police Station. 2nd turning on the right is Middlesex street with a pub on each corner, Dirty Dicks & Woodin's Shades. Turn down Midllesex Street & the Shooting Star is 50yards down on the right & we will be downstairs @ 8pm ......form a queue with no pushing !

For anybody driving there is street parking after 6.30pm right outside the pub....just don't nick the space where Mark parks with the equipment & Des lugs his piles of sales boxes from !

For anybody travelling & wanting to stay overnight please see hotel details below. We have good reports of the Travel Lodge at Aldgate which is just 5 minutes walk away although all the hotels mentioned are close by.

Travel Lodge 6-13 Chamber Street Aldgate East E1 8BL Check the Travel lodge website https://www.travelodge.co.uk for special deals & you may get something around £60

Club Quarters 7 Gracechurch Street, EC3V 0DR Standard room with breakfast £79

City Hotel 12 Osborn St E1 6TE Twin/Double £80/Triple room £105

Just rooting down the back of the sofa to see if I can find enough beer vouchers to be able to make the trip down to the smoke cos if I hadn't had enough poo already recently, my telly died on me this morning and I have just had to pay £200 for a new one..............why didn't the little scrotes that broke in nick it then I would have a new one on the insurance

It's looking hopeful at the moment so may see you in Borough St

Directions for Binty or anyone coming from the direction of Aldgate East

Ok Binty not sure which side of the road your hotel is but I'm taking a guess that when you come outside you need to turn left & at the end of the road you should see Tower Gateway, turn right up Mansell Street & at the end of the road there appears to be a shopping centre & I think you'll need to go down the underpass which also takes you to one of the entrances to Aldgate East tube. You should come up onto St Botolph street which hopefully will be signposted in the underpass & Middlesex street should be just about in front of you though if you're lucky you may also see a sign for Middlesex street which is where the Shooting Star is located, although we're up the other end of the street it's only a short walk though you may wish to carry your F*** me shoes in a stylish tesco carrier bag.

Alternatively if you don't fancy the underpass walk up Mansell Street & instead of going down the underpass turn left & follow Aldgate High Street round, & in front of you should be a street imaginatively named Camomile Bevis Marks Duk. (whatever Duk means but that's all it says on the map) or running parallel is Houndsditch & both will bring you to Bishopsgate. Once at Bishopsgate turn right & walk a very short distance & you will see Liverpool Street station, carry on past the police station & the salmonella shop & Middlesex St is on the right. Shooting Star is 50yards down on the right, go down the stairs pay your door tax turn right to the bar & buy drinks for all the DJs.beer.gifbeer.gif

Hopefully that should be enough to get you there & we'll try to get you escorted back to your hotel later whistling.giflaugh.gif

Of course if you're feeling lazy jump in a cab.

I'm gonna try to post a map later so hopefully it will all make sense.

I won't be held responsible for any grammatical errors or misleading directions so don't start if you get lostblink.gif

Dave, would that be on the edge of the page in your A-Z, thus missing the "e" of Duke (given that one end of Bevis Marks is Camomile Street and the other end is Duke's Place)? Or was this where they used to breed London's famed Camomile Bevis Mark breed of duck?

See you Friday.

Oh piss off Mr T how was I to know, it's a mistake anyone could make,:blush::blink: you probably only remember it because there's a favourite watering hole of yours there? Anyway I was in a hurry looking on street map trying to find Binty a place to stick her pink monster, any suggestions whistling

See you friday matethumbsup.gif , you gonna play a few sounds early doors (like 7.58?)

I'll be on time this week. I've never found a decent pub round that particular area but its been gentrified a bit now I suppose?

I would be very careful with a pink monster in Bevis Marks, high risk of someone interfering with your exhaust or pinching your nuts.

Just thought had better clear this one up as the original post was from my very best friend in the stix. Now I'm not sure whether there is a street called Borough St in London but if there is and you want to meet us for Pre SHS Tapas please don't go there. We are meeting at the Market Porter pub, at Borough Market, which, to be fair to Martin because he was close, is off Borough High St.

The Soul Angel and I are aiming to be there for 5.00pm and I think Binty will be there about the same time, other folks have said they will arrive a differing times until about 6.30 when, as Martin has said we aim to eat. Of course, this being me, I could well be beyond needing something to eat by then. Mind you that tapas stuff isn't proper food anyway, so I should be OK.

Dave, don't forget the camera case.

Looks like being another great one.

See you all later.

Pete
