When is it being released? Nothing on the Ipso Facto website, or even IMDB, and they are always up to the minute.

Hello Matt,

I think the film will be released in UK cinemas in September (possibly sooner) but it will screened at film festivals and special events in advance of that.

The 2CD soundtrack album will be released by Universal (UMG) on June 14th but that's just a target date.

Nice clip, but much prefer the first trailer

(Some people are never happy! )

Hello Webby,

This is the new official trailer, the old one contained a track which hasn't been used in the film. No doubt it will become collectable :chinstroke:

Was it Bari Trak! :D

Yes, it was 'Bari Track' (also in the Millbrand catalogue) but for some reason they haven't used it in the film.

They almost used another Millbrand song, 'If I Could Only Be Sure' by Nolan Porter, but sadly it won't be in the film. Having said that, it may still be featured on the soundtrack album. The details for that are still being finalised with Universal.

By the way, 'All Of My Life' by Detroit Soul is featured twice in the film so the guys get paid twice and are really excited. The director Shimmy Marcus really likes that song.

Good to see Luther Ingram's If Its All The Sane To You Babe and Jimmy Soul Clark's Cmon and Be My Sweet Darlin added to the movie soundtrack.

Universal as usual screwed up

and had no information on Julian Covey. They eventually took my word for it, in terms of ownership!

Yes, Kev, they also made a few changes and the tracks on the soundtrack CD will differ slightly to those in the film. 'If I Could Only Be Sure' isn't in the film but it's on the soundtrack album, while 'Double Cookin'' is in the film but not on the soundtrack album (although not yet confirmed).

Pity they didn't use 'Bari Track', that would have been nice. Good job I didn't raise Doni's hopes.

Best wishes,

Paul

Great to see so many positive remarks, I think it will be a good and entertaining film.

We'll all feel like we're teenagers again. And anyone who wasn't there will probably feel they missed out on something special.

My only gripe was that they used original recordings and not Weller/Winehouse like they were threatening to do.

There is no Weller/Winehouse is there Paul?

Hey Paul,

Will it be released only in the Uk? It's much more easy to get it in Mexico if it got a USA release...

Hello Dante,

It will probably get international cinema releases but the film will also be released on DVD after a while. So you'll be able to see it anyway.

I'm genuinely hoping that this film will be to NS what Quadraphenia was to the Mod Scene. I hope hundreds of kids start buying Spencers, replica soul patches & Addidas sports bags, along with NS CD Comps & head for thier nearest Nighter.................it'll be a f*ckin' nightmare, but ya know what, it'll give the scene the injection of youth it needs & in a year or so when the scene sorts out the men from the boys, then we'll have a nucleus of younger, faster, hipper kids who will drive the scene forward again with the passion only youth can bring, it'll be the best thing to happen to the scene in years if this happens............although I can almost feel the veteran promoters anticipation as they draw up the battle plans...........kerchinnnnnnnnngggg.

Looking forward to seeing this & look forward to the aftermath too, should be interesting.............right, who's promoting the Allnighter down the road after the premier, i'll bet my Frank Wilson bootleg that the ground is already being laid as we speak. Looks like there could be a few more quid left in the scene after all...............

Saw the film yesterday and really enjoyed it.

It's at its heart a coming of age film, but with Northern soul as the backdrop.

Hello Russ,

It will be nice for a wider and younger audience to be introduced to such good music and get the enjoyment that we've had out of it for so long.

Some will be curious and flirt with it but some will really fall in love with it.

I wonder if they will call on Lily Allen to give the film some publicity.

I'm sure she will want to do the best for her kid brother.

And she could be the "X factor" that bridges the generation gap.

Sorry to anyone who hates the idea!!

It's seems as far back as I worked at Wigan since Shimmy Marcus the Director met me in Stoke to discuss the potential of this film.

I took him to the Kings Hall and from that moment, the seeds were planted.

Several years later Soulboy is almost upon us. I sincerely hope it keeps the movement going for many a year.

It certainly seems a long time.

I first discussed licensing with Ipso Facto back in 2006. People who make films must have an awful lot of patience to spend years and years working on ideas, funding, scripting, locations, casting, shooting, editing, etc.

And all that work results in just one short film.

Amazing really.

That sounds like a yes to these sceptical ears

Ha ha, well they aren't on the soundtrack list.

It's all vintage stuff - such as Yvonne Baker, Detroit Soul, World Column, Checkerboard Squares, Jackie Wilson, Luther Ingram, The Dells, JJ Barnes, Gloria Jones, Jason Knight, William Bell, Dean Parrish, Jimmy Radcliffe, Williams & Watson and some Motown stuff etc.

We're now in a deep recession.

All the new kids need are

3 day weeks and Power Cuts to really get 'em in the moodlaugh.gif

Guess I'll give it a look but.

Paul. I found the producer of Detroit Soul some 33 years ago. He mentioned the group were from Hartford, Ct. A fun song I used to play at the Casino in 74. Do we know anything about it, apart from they are White and Shimmy likes it?

Yes, they were a seven-piece white band, all of Italian heritage, based in and around Hartford.

The line-up was Peter Villano (organ), Sebastian 'Sal' Lenares (vocals), Joe Verillo (sax), Skip Blankenburg (trumpet), Angelo Mariani (trumpet), Ronnie Carrubba (drums) and Bart Mazzarella (bass) who is also known as Bob Marx.

Peter and Sal wrote the song. Skip and Angelo are deceased.

They recorded 'All Of My Life' in 1967 at Synchron Studios in Wallingford, CT. and released it via Irv Jeffries, the owner of a local record store in Hartford. A local radio DJ got the producer credit.

I had already obtained publishing rights for Millbrand but it was difficult to persuade them to do the master license for the film because one of the five remaining members didn't want to do it and they all share ownership. I almost gave up but, as you know, Shimmy really wanted this song in the film so I persisted until all five had agreed. And in return for the extra effort, Shimmy agreed to feature the track twice and I really appreciate that.

Maybe you should interview Sal or Bart on your show one day?
