few days old like but may be of interest

According to Reuters, the surviving Funk Brothers (Joe Messina, Eddie Willis, Joe Hunter, Bob Babbitt, Uriel Jones and Jack Ashford) are being sued by the owners of Rimshot Management " Allan Slutsky and Sandy Passman " who produced Standing In The Shadows Of Motown and its companion soundtrack CD. Slutsky also wrote the book, Standing In The Shadows Of Motown, which focuses on late bass player James Jamerson.

So why are the Funk Brothers at odds with the people who helped them reclaim their fame? Well, it seems that Rimshot's deal with the Funk Brothers included a management contract. After the movie came out, the Funk Brothers began capitalizing on their new fame, touring, doing interviews and appearing on television programs, including American Idol. All in all, the Funk Brothers were estimated to have earned $1 million in the year after the film's release and Rimshot claim that they're owed a chunk of that money.

The problem lies in that the Funk Brothers allegedly fired Rimshot in February and then, as Rimshot claim, rehired them. Reuters reports that the band owe the company at least $30,000, although specific damages in the suit have not been disclosed.

Either way, the Standing In The Shadows Of Motown's soundtrack will be re-released on May 11 in a fancy double-disc edition. Meanwhile, The Funk Brothers are scheduled to play Toronto's Downtown Jazz Festival Nightlife Series on July 3 at the Kool Haus
