totally awe-inspiring weekend and a big thankyou to kev for making it such a spectacular success. a record breaking attendance with saturday, in particular, a complete sell-out and the jewell in the crown?...a brilliant dance competition won by a lad who thoroughly deserved it, especially after last year getting so close and....ditto what billy said, i think next year, there's a very good chance we'll have a female winner for the first time. enjoyed getting my first opportunity to play in the main ballroom on friday and pleased to know it was recieved well...now cant wait for stoke....what no new years eve?,never mind, bring the party cannons anyway!. big sets from all the top people and thankfully, not too many tunes getting repeated. i think if all the tables and chairs were taken out it wouldnt alter things much, not with a massive attendance like that anyway, the dancefloor would still have been rammed.

need help so somebody please advise: filmed the dance comp and i want to upload it to youtube...what is the proceedure and do you have to have an account to do it anyway?.

got back home to dorset yesterday afternoon 600 mile round trip and it was worth every mile travelled, we missed last year cos we got married in september but made the trip back up for our third visit and really enjoyed it. only grumble i have is why could they not put the dealers stalls elsewhere and free up the space for more seating n tables around the edges and that would increase the dancefloor size saturday nite was rammed on the dancefloor and we gave up in the end after treading on so many toes and bumping into people. grumble over.. we really enjoyed ourselves and will be back next year. sean and helen robinson

Totally agree with u both!!! We travelled up from Bristol just for the Sat Nite & love the Tower & buzz at this venue.

Could not move was sooo packed and could hardly get on the dancefloor!

at one point walked onto the floor and looked round to see if my wife was behind me & eventually she appeared lookin upset.....some d..k head pushed her with his Knee!!! (he did it on purpose)

She never told me who it was knowin i would not be too pleased!!

We love the scene & never in all the yrs had any probs.....u know who u r?

Apart from this we loved the event!! look forward to nx yr.

think you do need an account but its fairly straight forward to do so.

Easiest way is to let the comp find the device you got the recording on, click links on you tube for uploading, it will ask you to type or click the location of your recording or browse for item, once found, click on it and it will do the rest for you.

Alternate way is to download the recording to your comp to an easy available folder (best to create a new one on your desk top) name it to make it even easier to find!! then repeat the steps above once on youtube......Simples

The dancer on the lefts routine (for want of a better word) is absolute proof that you do NOT need to include any acrobatic moves at all, let alone the awkward cumbersome ones of middle-aged people who aren't very flexible, to execute and champion this dance genre. Fantastic use of space and a plethora of different moves that flowed into each other beautifully. I was mesmerised and found myself biting the inside of my cheek without realising until it finished! That was 'perfect' Northern Soul dancing if you ask me. Without doubt a worthy winner this year if it was them and the best I've seen 'ever' in a dance competition

PS: which one is Liam as I can't see them properly.

AND WHAT A SET JULIAN METCALF PLAYED ASBOLUTELY FIRST CLASS ALONG WITH GREAT SPINS FROM THE OTHERS

Thank you for your post, I'm glad you enjoyed my set.

I really enjoyed playing some of the records I don't get chance to play out at my usual soul nights.

To tell you the truth, I was stunned and a bit overwhelmed at the response I got when I finished my spot.

Thanks to everyone in the 'Underplayed Walkway, you where a fantastic crowd to play to.

A real pleasure for me, I can assure you.

Kind regards

Jools

The word chill out does come into it, The Chill out room was rocking on Saturday night with John H and Andy Murfin double Decking with some upbeat R&B Great atmosphere, I was next on How the fooook do you follow those two Answer wub.gif With a bit of R&B Bobby Bland and Rodger Collins "I am serving time" coming to the rescue I hope. I had a great time great time playing what I like as I said on the night my names Andy Hudson and I do hope you enjoyed what I played. If you didn't my names Andy Bellwood who had the easy job of following me on to chill out decks (he was My Mate). There could of been on of those hired in Dance floors, those that you get at wedding receptions that Peter Kay loves sliding across, as there was not a lot of chilling been done. Julie was or-some with her 7ts philly soul. I loved it.

Great to see Nige Brown and Carman The Little Richie great thanks, already expanding my R&B collection, Soul Sam nice little natter and Yocky  I am looking for another venue so I will let you know.

Just like to say thank you to those who stayed at the Lawton Hotel who helped me with carting my records about, cheers!!!!!

The Highlight of the weekend was Sunday afternoon with Richard Searling who made it feel just like Yesterday today and Soul Sam and Cleethorpes legend Ginger, Kev Roberts John & Julie H for making happen for me :D

Regards

A bit more ...Thought all the DJs in the three rooms that I managed to catch were superb .The sounds systems were near perfect - how many otherwise excellent events are marred by poor/ unreliable sound systems ?

Normally an over dose of motown bores me to tears , but Soul Sam's Sunday session captivated me with his legendary enthusiasm and knowledge so evident with his introductions to each record of a well crafted set of the classics .

So many memorable moments - Yocki dancing in a skirt and miners boots , Liam Quinn playing Joe Walker 'this is my last good bye' (returned the compliment by spinning again in the chlll out room) and Nige Brown, The Rosebuds 'say you'll be mine' - both in the main room .

Pete Roberts 'Twisted Wheel ' set provided variety and not unexpectedly, a very well received certain Spencer Davis tune!

Great to see so many of the new 'younger generation' there, never seen a more inclusive event- heard someone say 'its just like the 7ts'.

The Manchester mods excelled in the sharp dressing stakes and the vibe in the modern (Circus) room was simply fab- what an atmosphere .

Really enjoyed the chill out sessions which were especially buzzin' on Saturday night with some outstanding freestyle sessions (would be nice to see some playlists posted).

Nice touch also with Goldsoul's nominated charity, the NSPCC, benefiting from the promoters and punters generosity over the weekend .

What a great weekend Pat and myself had. The M62 was no trouble with no roadworks for the first time ever, the hotel was "spot on" and as for the weekender.............

Arrived friday afternoon and decided to venture no further than Soul Suite as time was knocking on and "evening meal" was rapidly approaching.

Got to the tower at 9.30 and the event was already in full swing. The sound system sounded better than ever and the dance floor was already quite full.

A quick trip around the various rooms then returning to the main ballroom Yocki was entertaining us all with a set only a top class DJ could produce.

Stopped in this room the rest of the night meeting old friends, drinking more than I should and dancing more than I normally do.

Saturday afternoon managed to get a table and after a supurb set from Derek Mead we were treated to a nostalgic session from Pete Roberts which was a true reflection of the twisted wheel....

Saturday night started off in the circus where we stopped until near midnight when we then ventured into what is wrongly termed the "chill out" room. More like an "underplayed and rare" room in my opinion. Stayed in this room for 2+ hours where Andy Bellwood played a varied and highly entertaining spot, many of which are now in my Wants List. Then ventured into the main ballroom for the rest of the night for more dancing and drinking finally leaving some time after 4am.

Our last trip to the tower was sunday afternoon Danny Clegg played a varied set and was highly entertaining in his selection, then Nige Brown took his turn and showed what a supurb DJ he is.

Time to leave then for the long journey home, knackered but happy.

The event was very well organised and seemed to run effortlessly. Well done to all concerned

Hi

Was'nt at Blackpool myself so never saw the dance comp and this youtube clip ,although not a bad job,is a bit far off to make out the faces but....

I could be totally wrong and it could be just a co-incidence but ...are Liam and the girl part of the dance crew for the new film ?

The guy's being trained by Paul Sadot in this series of youtube clips ??

Yes, I think that is Liam who won Blackpool. The clip is taken from "Dance Lesson" which is held in London and, I think, other locations in the UK. The idea apparently is to give the younger dancers an opportunity show off the dancing skills and they could get picked to appear in the up and coming film "NORTHERN SOUL - THE FILM"

I've also seen other clips on YouTube and, like this clip, some of the dancers are absolutely stunning!!
