Keep an eye (sorry bowt the pun) on S Wonder track, a beaut!

Also Holland Dozier I'm told is a revamp of a fairly well known Motown track

Interestuingly exchange of J Weatherspoon choons viz a viz D Edwards & Fantastic 4

Should be a crackaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Whilst appreciating the compilations release, it would be even more satisfying to be dripfed the obvious wealth of "vault" material on a more regular basis, than the repackaged, repackaged, repackaged.....etc.

It's a great series and excellent value for money but it's almost three years since Vol 3.

That's a hell of a long time for an impatient young lad like me.

Anyone actually listened to this package yet? Listened to disc one on the way home from Lifeline this morning and got to say it wasn't very good at all, that's being polite. You can see when you listen why most of these were left in the can, really poor effort and really think they are scraping the bottom of the barrel for some of these tracks now.

Couldn't face disc two so put the new Kent Ballads Cd on, class!!!

...well, given that it's not supposed to be on sale anywhere until Tuesday, and that Amazon haven't shipped their pre-orders yet, I would imagine that very few people on here have 'actually listened to this package yet'...

I'm not expecting wall to wall stompers, so I'm sure I'm going to enjoy it as much as I've enjoyed the other three. :hatsoff2:

I thought it was on general release now Tone.

I wasn't expecting wall to wall stompers but I was expecting better than what I've heard. I've got the other three and they were all good but this one a big disappointment to be honest. The Motown stars are there, polished as ever, harmonies you would expect but the tracks are pretty poor and average at best, as i said you can see why some were canned.

I am pretty sure someone on here (I think Pete Smith) said Volume 3 was scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I wonder if whover it was still has the same opinion or have the tracks sounded better after a few hearings?

Must admit I am really looking forward to it. Hope I'm not disappointed.

Thanks for that, especially as I had typed in the title in Spotify search and came up with nothing!

Possibly now thinking that because I typed "volume" as opposed to "vol" it didn't see it.

I now have it playing through my stereo, but am £9 shorter because I ordered it when I din't need to as I use Spotify Premium and can play it through that!

That would've bought a take away curry.......

Must say I do like "My baby changes like the weather"!

I believe there are a fair few tracks that are from around 62/64, before the "trade mark" hitsville sound was used ubiquitously , and I have to say they don't do a lot for me, but there are still many others that hit the spot too.

A good buy for £9,

Mine arrived today. Miss Lonely Heart - The Vandellas, I'll Turn to Stone - Dennis Edwards (Did Chris King have this a while back - as the Contours?) Lead Me and Guide Me - ?Holland-Dozier? hit the spot nicely first time through.

Just had an overnight e-mail from Amazon saying that release has been delayed and thet they don't now expect to be shipping until next Monday at the earliest.

Where are all these physical copies 'arriving' from, if that's the case? Or are some Sourcers being just the teeeeeeeeeniiiiiiesssssst bit economical with the truth?

Got mind yesterday from Amazon UK, had a quick listen and love some tracks on first listen. You can't get this much value for £6.99.

Not in the least economical with the truth.

It came from Amazon actually Tony. The bastards are lying to you. It came with the Tom Moulton - so double joy.

I had ordered mine from Play.com for £8.95, but as it still is out of stock, so I've cancelled the order, and will get it from Amazon instead, as many bargain hunters here have done!

Except it says it is still £8.99 on their site...............?

And isn't it a bit strange that if you download the album, it is still £8.93, and you don't get the case or album info etc......???????

I moaned about Universal taking almost three years to issue Vol 4 but now that it's out I have to agree the standard is gradually falling.

It's all subjective but I reckon many of the unreleased tracks just weren't up to Motown's usual standard.

Having said that, I always find at least half a dozen gems out of 50 tracks on each volume. It may be a low ratio but these albums are cheap.

I've only heard Vol 4 a few times (so far) but I really like the following tracks...

Fantastic Four - Keep On Tryin' Till You Find Love

Fantastic Four - Take Him Back If It Makes You Happy

(...also a great version of this song by The Contours on Vol 2)

Ivy Joe Hunter - Only A Lonely Man Would Know

The Vows - My Baby Changes Like The Weather

Blinky - It's Gonna Be Always

The Vandellas - Miss Lonely Hearts

Dennis Edwards - I'll Turn To Stone

So it's well worth the price.

Best wishes,

Paul

I just got the notification from Amazon yesterday that they were shipping, so I guess that mine will finally come in time for the weekend. Can't hardly wait., as they say...

And to anyone who says they got it from Amazon prior to this week, well, I just don't believe you. Not one of the 20 or so people who I've asked, and who I know have ordered it from Amazon, have received theirs as of last weekend; why should it be any different for some others on here?

I also got Amazon notification yesterday and Paul is right, always a few worthwhile tracks and at the price of less than 2 packets of fags it's well worth indulging in.
