Guest kev such

John and Julie rang me Friday evening to ask if I would step in, in the 2nd room last night.

Was tasked to do 12am to 1am, and I fricking well loved it. A real pleasure to play tunes at such a prestigious event. Like I was gonna say "sorry I cant" in all honesty.

Think that as said a dancefloor was lacking as people were trying to dance on the carpet or on the slight amount of dancefloory type thing by the bar.

Pretty good feeling when a lower end of the food chain dj gets asked by obvious collectors and more experienced dj's what certain tunes are you're playing.

The main room was as is with Stoke another world, just brilliant.

Once again thanks for the opportunity a real pleasure, bit like a Jim'll fix it scenario.

Kind Regards

Kev

really pleased for you kev....experience doesnt always matter as some djs that have been doin it for yrs lack the passion they once had and just stand behind the decks with hands in pockets looking bored or gassbagging

Was stressing that last night wouldn't live up to high standard set in October (my first) but stepping back into Kings Hall felt BOSS; if the car park was anything to go by there were certainly more in attendance. After a brush with management for my queue etiquette ( sorry Dave) another night of amazing tunes awaited, most of which I was hearing for the first time and a couple which everyone was hearing for the first time. Dived into the underplayed room for 20 minutes and chilled out with a bevvy. The main room was well up for it and, for an 'apprentice' like me, just leaves me gobsmacked; great to see so much cool dancing and everybody buzzing. Now that I've been twice and got the same rush I know what to expect, and March won't come quick enough.

10/10 to everyone involved...the honeymoon continues.

Thanks all

Jem

Probably one of the best night outs I've ever had. Amazing music, amazing dancing- the kid was brilliant! A couple of us came up from London, completely different level to anything we've been to before and can't wait to go again. Big thanks, top stuff.

big thanx to all for another top nite out at THE kings hall.....especially martin p from ponty who came over to bristol to get me and got me home safe despite horrible fog which caused two horrific motorway closing accidents on the way home.....

back to the good bits.....top tunes which sound soooooooo good at this venue ,a mix of sound system and BIG hall that is perfect for those big atmosheric oldies ,im sure i say that everytime but when you walk in through those doors to the main room it hits you everytime so...

second room was quiter than id hoped but actually was a nice chill out room to chat and here some lesser known djs, except mr chapman ofcourse...oh and by that i mean hes not 'lesser known ' not that it wasnt nice to hear him ! especially the aquamen,mr(or mrs) jones (cant remember) wasington smith and angela davis although was a baastard dancin to uptempo stuff on that carpet...i know it wont happen but a permanant dancefloor in that room would be great and i reckon the place would be packed...

as always at stoke lots of younger people in the crowd...some dressed retro obviously into mod etc others not but still picking up the moves...and as for the young lad WOW...think i mentioned him last time too but why not...if youre his parents reading this pat him on the back and give him a thanx he made a lot of people smile...who said northern wouldnt carry on passed us oldies

its great also to read posts on here about people finding this night for the first time and coming back for more despite its long history ,ive only be doing it maybe 5 years now but am starting to feel like a veteran and still loving it..hope to be bringing some kings hall virgins up next year from the bristol go go crowd too....

prefered it in dec too as opposed to new years...means i can go to bidds and get another all nighter in this year

lastly big thanx to the chat with all the great company ,have a top xmas and i'll see you in the new year..unless you're going to luton in which case i'll see you saturday....if we can get thru the snow they forecast , im sure we will...just like last year !!

As per normal Stoke is the place to celebrate all things Northernsoul with its cathedral like venue and quality sound system that catapults you back to a bye gone age yet paradoxically the nighter is a game of two halves, the main room is thumping as soon as you set foot onto the wooden dance floor and you are immersed into a Wiganesque experience with the usual monster sounds that have become the wonderful soundtrack of a generation yet the flavor and pace subtly changes come three o'clock and we see an ever so slightly rarer and dare I say more of and allnighter sound and feel, great trick if you can pull it off and I think it is here that Stoke smashes all others to give a melt of a sub cultures that includes the Wigan revivalists and the allnighter regulars a venue of worth.

The second room is a luxury yet if the truth be known, unnecessary alternative to what is happening in the main room, there are more than enough allnighter dates that cater for the more discerning palette and for those who are asking for a dance floor that will cost nearly five hundred extra pounds then I would ask you all "Are you going to use it after three o'clock", well I already know the answer to that because I personally have been the sad boy dancing on his own during the last six allnighters in the alternative room and that is the truth, there is no one dancing in there come four o'clock so it just doesn't make any sense what so ever in asking for a floor that will only be used for such a short period.

I'd make the alternative room a place to sit and chill with an opportunity for lesser known DJ's to offer up a background sound.

I had a brilliant night, great people and a really tremendous atmosphere with loads of old and new faces, the proceedings where seamless and kudos to all involved.

Thank you, I will be coming again.

we popped in and out of the second room throughout the night & really enjoyed it... particularly wanted to hear Sarah Evison's set, so went in at 4.a.m. ...loved it!...& had a bit of a dance! ... would have danced more if not for the carpet! heard an old fav too! ..'Dancing Master' can't remember how many years it is since I heard that one! (made my night anyway!) ...so all in all a perfect 'last nighter' of 2010 for us, see ya next year

What a brilliant night! Fantastic music (a long way from mainstream soul night oldies btw), great dancing and particularly gratifying a growing band of young soulies who made the front of the stage their own. Quite right too! The numbers of younger soulies (not Youngsters or Kids!) are growing..... Maybe just Maybe???????

A reflective and hopeful

Another brilliant night!

Just want to say thanks to all those who stuck it out (as it were) and came into the Windsor Suite to support me in my first set at Kings.

Thanks to John and Julie for organising that...a job very well done methinks!

Cheers guys for your support...maybe another time?

Again, thanks

Sarah

absolutely outstanding night again, we say this every time and how do you top that, but kev keeps pulling out all the stops and to be honest, dec 11 was a much better proposition than new years, though ive got nothing against that in general...last night just pulled in loads from all over the country and again, the age groups were wide rangeing. quality tunes from all the big guns as usual!, and, to my mind, very few repeat plays...infact personally i didnt hear any. having mick.h back in the main room really is a bonus..complements the line-up.

the windsor suite obviously lacked the dancefloor, which many of you recognised, was a portable one anyway...it just needs to have a permanent one as this room will house several hundred comfortably and it certainly wasnt lacking for top draw alternative tunes, though not necessarily rareist of the rare.

compliments to julie & john heeney from derby for hosting the event and good to see jules & sarah E. spinning sounds like water off a ducks back!.

i think everyone who paid it a visit would be pleasantly surprised by what they heard, despite the "albrighton" effect ( standing around) and its definitely worth persevering with.

ROLL ON 2011 AND EVEN MORE TOGETHERNESS!!...OH, AND A BIG SOULFUL XMAS AND NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL & SEE SOME OF YOU AGAIN AT BRIGHOUSE DEC 17...RIGHT ON!!

you obviously missed gingers spot then , the first four i think had been played at least once , still we all pay good money to hear those casino classics dont we?
