A NIGHT AT WIGAN CASINO (September 1974) ***

https://podcastmachine.com/podcasts/4425/episodes/27086

This is for everyone who asked me to put some live recordings up, I used to do a tape most times that I went to Wigan but probably only 30 of them survived. This is one that I didnt do, it was recorded by Alan Davidson before I actually attended in early 76 and it comes from 1974 (I myself dated it to September 74 around the time of the 1st anniversary). I chose this recording because the fabled Wigan clapping has never sounded better and for those of you who never went to the Casino, this recording should hopefully play a big part in explaining the magic of the place, its simply my favourite Wigan tape of all time I think. The DJs are Russ Winstanley and Richard Searling, the quality is lo-fi, recorded from the left hand balcony on a hand held battery operated cassette recorder, but the experience is priceless (this recording of Tainted Love often has me in tears)!

Making the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end with memories of such a night...

Is it me or were all the tunes played at 55 rpm back then...if so lets push the speed sliders back up again ...

Many Thanks for the Podcast Pete..no doubt I'll be playing this over & over in the coming weeks

Might be, but a lot of people get the RSS feed and subscribe to it automatically, and it's at 91 downloads this morning, there's been 645 downloads this past 7 days and 1863 downloads in the last 30 days, I'd guess that maybe 1% of those are double clickers.

Hi Pete,

Is the original tape worth anything :-)

Cheers Al Davison

Yeah ok thanks, been down, been up, as always.

It was only when I saw your initials it got me thinking that this was your tape originally.

I will actually amend the intro to say as such now.

No problem, glad people like it.

Cheers Al D.
