purist
Just sat here watching an old Oddfellows anniversary tape recorded in February 1988 (thought it might get me in the mood for tonight, not that I need it 'cause I'm gagging for a good Rugby Niter) and who should walk across the screen?? OMG - Was that a young Sian I spied??? I've watched this tape loads of times before, but this is the first time I've spotted you ( that is if it is you Sian?) This is the one where they video'd everybody as they came in ( stopped folk bullsh*tting that they were there when they weren't Link to comment

purist
Ian Clark just played the last record of his set, "Home is where the heart is", and everybody clapped in all the right places, and the camera zoomed in on my old pal Simon Hunt grooving on the floor (honest ! - not just saying this cause you just posted this above) then Dave Cain, another old pal came into view. Tony starts his set with 150mph good ness of Kelly Garrett, and all of a sudden the muscle memory kicks in and I wanna DANCE. Detroit Soul All Of My Life, wuff wah !!! Link to comment

Ah bless, I bet Adam's got hair too See you tonight everybody xx Whilst watching this video I noticed Adam (yes, he had a headful in those days) played the fab Skip Mahoney "Running Away From Love" - be great to see/hear a repeat of that tonight at Rugby, but then again Adam can do no wrong for me anyway - either then or now. And a Cut Glass track (never remember the title but always remember one mate who used to bang on about JJ Barnes sister being the female lead in this group, Orthea ?) Link to comment

Guest sharmo 1
Sir it's very strange that when we get a bit older and start looking at old photo's ect we tend to say thing's like "ah that's when I had all my teeth or blimy that's when i had all my hair" strangely that's when I had no hair now I've got loads , that peace of film has made me and a few others laugh and cry many times I really loved that place and the records four on the dance floor when Keb played little John "wait and see" and some great old boy's lik eD anny Everard ect,the guy who came second in the dancing comp was dave jefferies from Ashby he was achef from London and took me to the 100 club a few times in the early day's Dave was a big punter on the London scene with His then girlfriend Shirly who stills go's to gig's with me and tina and her hubby Chas .Sadly Dave died but a lot of you must remeber him as his dancing style was simular to Keb's he sadly secumed to the extreams of modern captivity.Thinking about it has made me a wee bit sad really .No I no longer own that sheepskin and panch ha soften asked me about it see you tonight old friend Simon. Philt
I remember a couple of trialists turning up for training, they had emigrated to the sunny south. They wore their league shirts, padded shoulders!!!! Very Joan Collins. (And they were soap dodgers, the baths and showers were another foreign land.) Was intent on giving Rugby a go tonight but still a tad 'jaded' following last nights festivities at Lowton. Sometime soon I hope but line up looks great tonight; hope it's a belter! atb Phil ps. Had no idea you were a kick n clap man John Kevin Ward and Adrian Morley'd shit themselves if faced with Lawrence, Tom, Jeremy, Ben, Toby or any of those other rough chaps (Public school arses with the odd immobile bloke from Leicester, Gloucester or Cornwall to do the donkey for em; it's like WW1 revisited with Barbour jackets and Range Rovers added into the mix). Can't dispute the soap dodger bit though, tin bath in front of t'fire once a week. Catch you soon mate Link to comment

Pete Burton
What can I say it all went so quickly, Great night, great people and more laughs than I've had in ages. When we left home at 7:30 PM Claire said she had a lot on next week & wanted to have an early night & leave at 2:00 AM, so with that in mind I didn't want to let her down so we left Sian & Dean's promptly at 9:45 AM. Rugby Soul Club
We always look forward to our anniversaries as they are that bit more special... Plus we'd got Del's birthday, altho I found out as the night went on that there were two more parties celebrating...thanks for choosing us... We had a group join us who hadn't been on the scene for many years but didn't realise they couldn't still dance to every record and have now informed me that they are in agony... So many travellers and the support of our regulars makes this an inviting and welcoming venue and thanks to eveyone who makes it like this... We had John Pugh's lad and his friends doing a dvd for their uni project and were under strict instructions to keep a low profile, so hopefully we will have our first dvd of Rugby... Also big thanks to Mark Sargeant for taking some great photos... I looked into the record bar at one point and thought, "there's no way they will fit anymore people in there"... I would say from our usual numbers, we maybe lost 20 to the other venues, for those who are interested. Only 5 visitors left now... Link to comment
Guest Northern PhanTom
To "The Rugby Soul Club", their friends & helpers for after 8 years keeping this event so fresh and enjoyable to attend. Had a great night, one of the best ive been to since it first started and still going strong. Quick mention after my tongue in cheek banter about "The Leicester Posse" last week, great to see them out in force and their enjoyable company during the night. Enjoyed "The Crack" lads.
