Boomerang (Canal Tavern, Thorne) - Saturday 20Th November '10

Recommended Posts

Whilst we essentially thrive on pleasing 60s and 70s soul, something tells me that the next Boomerang may be seasoned with extra flavours of tingly crossover sounds... and yes, sometimes these things can take years to come together:

It took a couple of trips north over the border, lots of begging and then over a year of waiting to fit in with his work schedule - but we are very pleased to finally welcome ANDY WHITMORE back to the Boomerang stage  (and a venue even more familiar to him). Andy will be joined by DAVE RIPOLLES who's also always delighted and excited with his sounds  - and ARTHUR FENN our regular guest dj, because he's yet to disappoint even though we two girls judge him hardest :shades: . As usual, I'll also muscle in and play some of my records too.

The room is already booked at the Thorne Central Guest House for Martin and me, wouldn't want to miss Boomerang. Dave Rippolles' sets at Prestatyn were great back in March, a man of good musical taste. Not sure if I've seen Andy Whitmore DJ so look forward to hearing his records. And of course I look forward to seeing all my friends up there in Thorne.

Geoff, be good to see you again , hope you are recovering from your accident, we missed the last Boomerang but we will definitely be at this one.

Not heard Andy Whitmore DJ for a few years since he moved to Scotland but I can assure you that you won't be disappointed with what he plays and with Dave, Arthur and Maria this is a night not to be missed.

See you there

Paul & Sue :thumbsup::lol:

Good morning Dave/Louise,

it will indeed be great to have Andy back again, he played a great couple of sets the last time he took to the Boomerang decks

and I am getting quite giddy thinking about the whole night.yes.gif hope you have both seen

the photo I took of you outside on the photo gallery Maria has uploaded, enjoying a quiet moment in the sun

at the August do.wub.gif

Of course for anyone coming for a first visit, and I know a few who are, all our previous guests playlists

including those from Andy and Dave Ripolles are available to peruse on the Boomerang website,

together with resident DJ Maria O's to get a flavour of what we do.wink.gif

A request for the Taxi number has been received, I have booked for the return journey to the Travelodge as

usual, so you just have to get yourselves there.biggrin.gif......................01405 817777

Hi Karen,

Yes, Martin and I will be there for the traditional get together in the Canal Tavern restaurant, alhough in my case I will be strictly teetotal for this trip. Got back from Soul In The Sun last night, bringing a cold back with me, feeling really tired. Looking forward to seeing you all at Boomerang.

Cheers,

Geoff

Er, no I will NOT! I'm sure a big boy like you can handle his own vinyl without a woman's touch, even when electronics are involved

[seems MrT has kindly uploaded it in refosoul now anyway.]

The photos are only up on our Facebook page [CLICK HERE]. There are some great new pics in there from the last event, especially of the gorgeous ladies - oh and Louise, seems Dave is treating you right, coz you're looking very healthy where it counts dear girl

The dj roster will be posted up as soon as I get organised, so can't see that happening today! laugh.gif

Needless to say that even when you book guests who always deliver on the sounds, it's extra exciting when they tell you that they are looking forward to giving it their all

Where will Kev be, I hear you ask!! He will be at a 70's themed 50th birthday party complete with psychadelic shirt and pink velour flares ( ooh !! ) It took me ................ seconds once I knew it clashed to decide to where to go!!

See you there, really looking forward to it wave.gif

Really looking forward to this as i always do, whether as a dj or as a punter! Always quality music and a quality clientele down the Tavern!

Haven't heard an Andy Whitmore set since Alan Darker's wedding and due to a bit too much red wine during the decidedly scarey childrens entertainer, I can't actually remember much of that one!!

See you all Saturday!

Shame he can't make it after. If you've seen some of Arthur's shirts, he wouldn't be out of place in that outfit :(

Apologies for not advertising sales table reservations for this one, but it seems we have a reasonably full quota in the 'Boomerang Vinyl Cave' already, so unless somebody drops out, here's the list of 6:

RECORD SALES TABLES RESERVED by:- __Soul Sam__ Andy Dyson__ Fish__ Dave Raistrick __Dave 'Natural Impulse' Welding __Arthur Fenn__

Please PM me or Karen by Friday if you want a table set up elsewhere. There's no need to reserve for small sales boxes that you wish to carry round or keep at your own table.

As always, please bring along your soul events flyers for the table we have set aside for this. We don't mind if your future dates clash with ours either, because we two have enough trouble trying to order our menfolk around and would never have the energy to tell anyone which venue they MUST support as well  .

And in order for you to plan your grand entrance on the night, here's the

DJ ROSTER for Saturday:

08:00 - Maria O (30 min)

08:30 - Arthur Fenn (30 min)

09:00 - Dave Ripolles (30 min)

09:30 - Andy Whitmore (30 min)

10:00 - Maria O (45 min)

10:45 - Arthur Fenn (45 min)

11:30 - Andy Whitmore (45 min)

12:15 - Dave Ripolles (45 min)

1am - close

A reminder for our first time guests to please check the 3-D panoramic photo in the events section listing (scroll to bottom), as the venue is down a slip road and entry is via the Tavern's corner door and can be a bit tricky to find. Walk through past the bar and dining area to the function room ...bit of a secret door.

I'm the same Chalky.

One week I ended up with 2 kebabs and a proposal of marriage to the Turkish kebab shop owner in the square all because Malayka wanted a bag of chips on the way home.

Always thinking I should take the night more seriously but that's the DJs jobwink.gif

I'm there for a pleasant night out with mates who just happen to play/sell/trade in the quality end of the music we love.

Over to you Mr Whitmore and Mr Ripolles!

Best soul night in the land...IMHO of course thumbsup.gifbiggrin.gif

Looking froward to Saturday night as ever thumbup.gif

Best go steady on that Great Heck this time whistling.gifbeer.gif

I don't think you are alone in that opinions Chalky, some claim the crown others like Thorne just get on with providing top quality music and pretty damn decent people, and yes I often end up with memory loss after, which is normally Pete B's fault.

Can't make this again, life just getting in the way of living at the moment, think last time I went out England had a decent football team so you know how long ago that was!

Great DJ's, can't believe I have never heard either of the Ripolle Bros, despite their reputation being pretty damned hot at the moment, have heard Mr Whitmore many many times, me being the man that made him, what can you say about my adopted countryman, well one thing you can say is he talks a good game, always talking about how good at golf he is, even though he cheats, always about his dress sense, even though we know its Mrs W that makes sure his sartorial crispness is intact, always talks about how safe trains are thanks to him, despite the fact everyone I am on is delayed due to somebody throwing themselves in front of a train, probably some poor deluded English footie fan, but one thing he rarely talks up is the records he plays, only because he doesn't need to, they do all the talking thats needed with their quality, really pleased the girls have been able to persuade him to get behind the decks again, man who knows what crossover records are right for the dancefloor, and probably the king of the genre, introducing it to many of us, proper Northern DJ!

So, its a rare treat for you lot, seeingMr W in action, dont miss it, the way he is loving his new Scottish highland home, it may be some time before we let him back down South again.....
