Run For Your Life

Recommended Posts

Luther Ingram - Hurdy Gurdy

Harrison Brothers - Bobalou

Douglas Gibson - Tangerine

Three versions all subtly different from each other, and all first rate hard-driving Northern Soul!

Which was played out first?

Are there any other versions out there?

Luther's is the rarest, but which is your favourite?

By the way, the flip of Luther 'I Need You Now' is damn good northern too...never heard that played out or spoken about!

Harrison Brothers best and also first played; Douglas Gibson uses the same backing track as Harrison Brothers. Luther Ingram rarest, also a great version but not quite as powerful as the other two.

Pete, Harrison Bros And Luther Both Book At The Same Value in the Guide What Do think they should be ? Please Atb John.

All three of these are essential northern soul : Harrison Bros definitely my favorite

First heard Harrison Bros/Music Minus Two at Cleethorpes circa 75/76

Cliff Camfield gave "I need you now" a few spins at Burnley in recent times - it's a nice slice of northern soul !

Best

All versions have their merits

Agree :boxing:

I've always gone for the Douglas Gibson cut, but am now having a re-think about the Luther Ingram as it is so more 'Detroity' sounding and gutsy. Never been a big fan of the vocal performance of the Harrisons, although the backing track means I can't ignore it!

Glad to read that Cliff has been spinning the Luther flipside...I'd honestly not heard it before finding a copy of the disc at the weekend
