Soul Sanctuary, Horwich, 17 December

Yes, it was truly a Sanctuary from the snow last night, with some incredible sounds played by some top DJs, including Derek Whatmough (playing his 'Birthday' set) and Kev Murphy pulling some brilliant tunes out of his box.

Numbers were a down on what was expected from the many calls, texts and e-mails we have had this week, which was no surprise given the extreme weather conditions.

But hey, nothing could deter some of our loyal supporters braving the Artic chill to get their monthly dose of Soul Soothers - thanks guys - you know who you are; and hope you made it back OK.

A big thanks too, to Bob and Denise setting off from over the Pennines Friday afternoon to make sure they reached us. It's great to hear how much you enjoyed this great venue and that you will be back again next month!

Looking back this year, we have been up against the World Cup, Barn Dances and snowdrifts; but NOTHING will deter us from making this one of the top soul nites out there - so bring it on!!

Next month promises something special with the guys from Heywood making an appearance as our top set of the night, so we'll look forward to seeing you all on Friday 28th January 2011.

Have Soulful Christmas, everyone and a prosperous and peaceful New Year.

Went to Soul Sanctuary for the first time last night, thought it was a brilliant venue with excellent dance floor, good music and cheap beer. Already booked Travel Inn for January 28th. Many thanks to Les and Sue for making us feel welcome and for organising us a lift back to the Travel Inn in the blizzard with Sue and her navigator - many thanks to them. Would thoroughly recommend this venue for a good night out.

Hi, Guys,

Many thanks for such positive comments!

If it's any consolation, Freddie and his gang were stuck on the M61 and arrived home at 5.30 am. We were up for a niter if they could have made it back to ours!

Glad to hear that you all got back OK in the end.

We are absolutely gutted we did'nt get there last night, we set off at 9pm and got as far as The Bee Hive pub where you turn off to Horwich, but it was snowing that thick and fast we decided to turn round and go back. We had already passed a mini bus facing the wrong way in the other lane that had spun out of control!! It was horrendous, and there were no signs of it stopping.

Really sorry to miss your birthday celebrations derek!!! had a card for you and everything (we'll save it for next year)

Glad those that made it enjoyed the night, will try to get there in January for sure!!

Absolutely gutted from Rochdale!!! :D

So sorry not to have made it last night Les - there was absolutely no way I'd have made it (there or back) in my old wagon.

Let's hope SS continues to go from strength to strength in 2011

Hi Phil good job you could not make it after what happened to Fredy and Gary with the motorway network ground to a holt. See you soon
