Interesting one Ian. I've got the latest "In The Basement" at the side of me in which there is the story of the Invitations. No mention of it in the discography and I can't see any links from the credits on the disc to any members of the Invitations either.

The "In The Basement" interview is with Wislon Gary Gant, there throughout the groups history. I presume they would have run the discog by him? There is nothing from the group listed betweeen 1968 (Diamond) and 1973 (Silver Blue).

Dave's site also has Herman Coefield in the line up. He joined around 1966 according to the interview replacing Roy Jolly who sang lead on all the DynoVoice material.

Weird. Never seen this before and I'm wondering if it's the same Invitations. Does anyone know it?

The Big Tree Invitations although often being lumped in with the Dynavoice/Silver Blue Guys has nothing what's so ever to do with them. The real mystery is the UK Jayboy release which seems to have been released without the groups knowledge ? Although obviously recorded this side of the pond. The "In The Basement" interview was done in conjunction with our Soul Junction 509-X release "It Took A Woman/Heavenly Love" which we provided a USA and UK discography but they only concentrated on the US one.

If you don't know - WIYG is a Guess Who song and appears on their "Wheatfield Soul" LP. It's an intricate pop song with jazzy progressions (typical of a Randy Bachmann composition) and certainly would not be a dancer. Could be re-imagined as a early 70s Four Tops type thing I suppose. It wasn't released on 45 by the Guess Who but got airplay, I well remember hearing it on the radio c. 1969/70

the flip of the invitations is also a cover of the filet of soul "swinging on a love vine"

This was written by Guess Who and BTO founder Randy Bachman, originally recorded by the Guess Who on the same album as These Eyes

Wow. Pretty good but I'm a sucker for those early Ronnie Dyson Philly recordings. Also "These Eyes" was pretty Soulful for a 'Rock' group, so the song has a decent pedigree.

Also I notice this track is in the Invitations Soulful Kinda Music discography, so if these guys weren't the real Invitations then who were they?
