We are pleased to announce the third MonuMENTAL Soul-On-Sea on the weekend of August 5th 6th and 7th 2011

The big news is WE ARE MOVING along the seafront to The Comfort Hotel where we will have a bigger room and better facilities. The hotel is part of the Comfort Hotel chain and is situated on Clacton sea-front. It has 50 guest rooms of a good standard, two bar areas, large patio area, car park and restaurant. The weekend will start at 4pm on Friday 5th August through to 6pm on Sunday 7th August, with 3am finish on Friday and Saturday nights.

We are also pleased to announce that our special guest DJ this year will be the one and only TERRY JONES, joining your regular MonuMENTAL DJs:

Bully, Gareth Donovan, Neil "Nelly" Forbes, Niki Golding, Mark Houghton, Andy Jones (TBC), Mole, John Pearson, Andy "Tats" Taylor, Mark "Binsy" Taylor, Paul Thrower, plus guest collectors**

Once again we will operate a priority booking period. Those who came last year will have priority to book accommodation until Sunday 6th February, then bookings will be open to all after Monday 7th. We have a very limited number of single rooms, first come first served. Weekend and day passes are available, but there will be absolutely no 'walk in' admittance for the entire weekend.

Dear MonuMENTAL Soul people,

There is only a little under two months to go until the third MonuMENTAL Soul weekend. We are all winding ourselves up like coiled springs in excitement and anticipation!!

A couple of snippets of news for you: We are pleased to announce that fellow soulboy and Acid Jazz Supremo, EDDIE PILLER, will be making a special guest DJ appearance - adding to our impressive MonuMENTAL DJ line up.

We would also like to thank everyone who expressed an interest in our Collectors DJ sessions. This year the fabulous Collectors making their MSoS debut will be: PAUL COLLINS, ADY POUNTAIN, TAFFY, KEV RODGERS, JP and DANNY CONWAY (plus as many of our previous collectors as time slots remaining when we finalise times). As ever we truly are honoured that you wish to share your SOUL with us!

Just a gentle reminder to all those who haven't yet reserved any hotel accommodation in Clacton. Remember that the MonuMENTAL Soul weekend takes place in the UK high summer season and it may be difficult to find hotels close to the venue if you leave it too late. Weekend and day passes should be available right up until the last minute, but you might be in for a long trek around Clacton looking for a room if you don't book in advance!

Thanks everyone. Not long now.... smile.gif

Any playlists for previous events ? Is it worth a 350 mile round trek?.Let me know folks,Ta Ray

Ray, there's no playlists as such that I can find. It's not really the sort of weekend where the jocks go with a set idea of playlists. It really is off the cuff from £10 underplayed/unknown to £1000 classics. The music is predominately 70's Modern/Xover but doesn't exclude 60's to a few present day tracks (No House though!!)

There's a few selections played in this link and a bit of feedback to give you an idea hopefully of what to expect if you do decide to come.

With the DJ's on offer through out the weekend I doubt we'll hear a duff tune the whole weekend & I know my 'wants' list will have grown considerably. Importantly its also a really sociable & fun weekend - loadsa dancin, drinkin, diggin n laughs all the way with like minded people. Its all about the SOUL n the Crac Ray thumbsup.gif .

Do you have a saturday night only price ?

I just happen to be making a flying visit on saturday to colchester to visit Mum and maybe a ten pound addmission would tempt me to come along for a few hours .

I think 20 quid each would be a bit steep for me if I am with my niece and nephew , that would run to 60 quid to take them out :hatsoff2: and that is without feeding them ... is there an on the door price for one day/night ?

We have just finalised our running order for the weekend. A magnificent line-up... if we do say so ourselves

In a time where most events are down on numbers, our bookings are up by 20% on last year!! We thank everyone who has spread the MonuMENTAL word and all our regulars for their support. We hope MonuMENTAL Soul-On-Sea 3 will be even better than one and two... and they are hard acts to follow!

There will be some broadcasting live from the weekend on Starpoint Radio. Keep looking at StarpointRadio.com for details.

Unmissable weekender, at the very cutting edge, place is gonna' be packed, i can't wait for the needle to drop on the first record, it'll just be none stop.............Brett

Link to comment

Less than a week to go now and still undecided about whether to turn up on Thursday or stop somewhere about half-way (Cambridge-ish area) or just get up early on Friday and do it in one mad blast before the Friday midday traffic nightmare ........... and then there's a 45 min guest spot to think about ....... so that'll only be about 300 records to chuck in the car then ....not forgetting a cd or two!!

Vicki & I are both really looking forward to this weekender, if it's half as good as last year it will still be brilliant ..................... Mark (Etheridge), just remind us of your description of Brett after the "gone to bed with the only key incident" from last year - we can't help smiling every time we think about it.

See you all sooooooooooooon !

Paul and Helen Mckay are going to be there, plus there are sure to be others you know.

Thats cool , thanks Geoff . It all depends on what my niece and nephew want to do , I might just get them a couple of wrist bands for pier , and leave them to it , not being one for fast rides , "aunty C" can slip in to the hotel and listen to collectors choice and have a nice long drink whilst they are scaring themselves wittless :thumbup:I have been told I am getting into Essex mode this morning having put my plastic electric kettle on a gas stove ! blink.png not a pretty sight :( , hope the weather keeps nice .

You just know when you've had a fantastic time, there's no check-list or anything, it's just a combination of things .... people, attitude, environment, alcohol, I suppose, and, of course, music. Well, we had an absolutely stonking time at Monumental and I'm including in that, getting sunburnt on the Friday morning and Vicki dragging me round every charity shop in Clacton - there's friggin' loads of 'em as well! - looking for that elusive find - ha ha.

We pitched up Thursday tea-time and had an enjoyable steak & ale pie, washed down with a couple of pints of Abbots Ale in in Wetherspoons, just down the road from the 'Comfort' hotel. To be fair the hotel was comfortable, although I wouldn't have minded having one of the really spacious rooms at the front (Niki, please note for next year  ). Come Friday morning, after breakfast - very nice - we had an stroll down the promenade and then a tour of central Clacton-on-Sea - I don't know if there's another Clacton, that's not by the sea but there's not that much really to the 'Sea' version, although, I reckon, if "they" could arrange for the central area fountains to be pumped to about 20ft in the air, it would be much more popular!

Late Friday morning, saw me sitting outside the hotel - chillin' - well, getting sunburnt actually, but chillin' sounds better, although the fact I left my sunglasses on, to create that well known 'panda-look' didn't go un-noticed later on, once I'd started to glow! Unknown to us, at this time, Niki, Gareth, Mole & Neil were busy beavering away, setting up the rooms for the weekend's proceeedings. However, back outside, before long, one or two people stared to appear, flitting in to the hotel and then disappearing again. Before long however, there was a small crowd beginning to build on the 'patio' - Reg and then Taffy were among the early arrivals along with Danny and Paul - all the way from Oslo, again - Sara, Everton and many others .............and by degrees, lots of other people began to appear too. Reg got his portable out!!! ...and was playing tunes on the patio - it was a great start to the weekend, to sit amongst a somewhat amorphous crowd of smiley-faced, like-minded soulies. Perfect.

I won't bore you with the rest of the details of our weekend, except to say, we had an absolutely fantastic time, in the best of company and with the best of music. I enjoyed my 45 mins spot on the Saturday dinner, although I wish I hadn't drunk so much the night before. The Wakefield 'possee', were, as ever, the life and soul of the party - thanks guys (and girls), we enjoyed your company immensely, but then, absolutely everybody was friendly and affable all weekend.

I can't recommend this weekend highly enough, for me (and Vicki, I reckon) it was the perfect weekender, so thanks to Niki, Gareth, Mole & Neil for organising it and thanks too, to everyone that was there for making it such a wonderful relaxed and happy way to spend a few days of our lives .............and no, I haven't been on the wine - yet!

Take care,

Kev

ps - Reg - Vicki's 2/3rds of the way through your book and I can't wait to get started

All the wonderful friendly happy MonuMENTAL Soul people. This weekend simply could not happen without you all.

All the DJs for believing in us and sticking by us.

The fabulous Collectors for continuing to astound us with your musical selections. The morning sessions have taken on a life of their own, and blow us away every time.

Spenny & Del for the best sound system in Essex. Our records just sound awesome on your system. We really appreciate the thought and care that goes into getting the sound just so.

Terry & Jackie Madhatter Tees for some wicked t-shirts! (thanks for the teddies, the girls love them)

The record sellers and crate diggers. Got to be done.

Carl & Spot at Starpoint Radio for the broadcasts and enabling us to share a bit of our little soul weekend with the World. Zane Hunter for recording the broadcasts (again) so we can re-live the experience.

Management and staff at The Comfort Hotel, Clacton. We have finally found our seaside home.

Finally to Danny, Lee, Kevin, Sara, Everton, Coppo and anyone else who helped us out with 'those' drapes!

We will be moving dates due to next years Olympic Games, we will be in touch once we have finalised arrangements.
