Gene-R
Yes, it was an excellent night - quite a few people there - and guess what??? Not many disruptive city tossers either!!! Those city workers who did turn up seemed to enjoy themselves without annoying anyone else. Have to laugh though, when I see the couples dancing together!! The one way they give themselves away!! Some of them remind me of the way our teachers danced at secondary school parties!! Gene Link to comment

Geoff
Soul In The City, Wednesday 4 August 2004 Hope this isn't too long. The thought of hearing some good soul music got me through a frustrating and hot day at work. After showering and changing clothes I travelled to Watling Street to be confronted by Martin, Dave and Paul standing outside Vivo's, reminding me of happy days (?) on the picket line in the distant past. It seems there was a problem with the cleaning of the club and I was advised to adjourn to the Old Watling pub to join other soulies and wait for the situation to be sorted out. Walked in to the bar, first person I saw was In Town Mikey and a lady friend (incidentally what's happened to the In Town emails?). I knew he would be there, I'd read his posts on Soul Source. There were several other people there: Jessica, Martin and Dave, plus some ladies whose names I didn't get, but have seen at other clubs. After a long 30 minutes we were informed that all was well so we went to Vivo's. Paul was on the decks and the mood was set for the night. Friends continued to arrive during the course of the evening, including Andy Faulkner (new resident DJ at These Old Shoes); Dave Swift; Helen McKay and many others. Ady Lupton was also there. Martin followed Paul and had me out dancing immediately to the Sandpipers' Lonely Too Long, followed shortly after by I'm Catching On by Betty Lloyd followed by Marie Knight's That's No Way To Treat A Girl and the Flirtations' Stronger Than Her Love. Dave Greenhill followed and continued to fill the floor. Unfortunately he hadn't bought Freddie Parris' There She Goes (a great beat ballad) with him, but I will let him off this time. Where's your playlist Dave? He played one of my other favourites Somebody New by Danny Moore. Again another great set that had the floor full. Paul followed and played a very enjoyable and danceable set. Started with Carol & Gerri, that got me out there straightaway. Great to hear and dance to Pat & The Blenders' Just Because, one I've heard quite a bit recently. Martin followed for his second set and kept the mood going; and was followed by Dave, again playing good music keeping the floor full. I left about 11.15 to get my train from Liverpool Street. I'd enjoyed a really good evening, possibly too much lager, what was I like? Next morning I did feel a bit wrecked to put it mildly, my feet were on fire. Still it was worth it for a good night. Thanks guys, and thanks for posting the playlists. Link to comment
