We're very pleased to announce that we will also be joined by Herminio Afonso for our next Independent Movement Party on Saturday 19 March. Check www.independentmovement.co.uk for all details including a new guest mix from Herminio Afonso.

Herminio Afonso is one of the most active members in the black music scene in Spain, both as DJ and gig promoter. His passion and constant restlessness for a broad musical heritage (modern soul, rare groove, jazz-funk, underground disco, Brazilian sounds, etc) settled down when he set up the legendary "Black Apocalypse" club (1996-2001) in Asturias. This club was an essential instrument for the cohesion and development of the soul scene in Spain. From 2000 to 2003 he co-hosted "7 Steps to Heaven", a new club which added more up-to-date sounds to the formula (soulful house, new jazz beats) and in which people such us Russ Dewbury, Raw Deal or Mad Mats have played his records. In 2003 he started to organize the S.O.U.L. weekender (Sounds of Unity & Love) to which well-known international DJs were invited (Butch, Arthur Fenn, Soul Sam, Terry Jones, Bob Jones, Ian Wright, Steve Guarnori). Besides his regular appearances in the most important national clubs and weekenders, Herminio has been called to share his eclectic sets to UK clubs such us The Jazz Rooms (Brighton).
