I know Rikki and the guy was a neighbour who showed a genuine interest in getting into the soul scene and left them in the guys house in good faith but he realizes it was the biggest mistake of his life, anyone offered a job lot especially in the West of Scotland area please get in touch

Cheers

happened to me many years ago with a lad that i went to college with in salford circa 1983-ish, i was out the scene for a bit so had these records around collecting dust, not all rare stuff but there was a carl spencer - cover girl, jewels issue, bobby guitar woods, charades demo, some mint uk demo stuff to name but a few in the 45 box, and as he was from wigan he said he knew a few people who went to the casino so he could sell on for me, never saw him again after that lol, he left the course we were on and everything, like to bump into the fecker again!

Hope yours are safely returned mate, may be worth deatilin whats in there in case there are offers on here, ebay etc.

I Really feel for the bloke here, hurts like hell when you have a few go missing but can't imagine a full box worth, about 15 years ago my wife Jacqui took a small fifty sales box to a soul night locally to us, front of the box, Ollie Jackson - Wipe Away The Tear Drops, Velvet Satins - Demo, Dickie Wonder, Hesitations - Built That Way - Demo, Intros - Jamie Issue and several others were removed from the front of the box by some low life chancer, when Jac got home I was off to an allnighter and as soon as I picked the box up I knew it was light of a few records, opened it up and this cold panic went through me like I'd been hit by a bus, all the tasty sales at the front gone, had no way of finding out who took them and never got them back, all you can wish for is that whoever steals records will have nothing but bad luck, I can't see what pleasure anyone would get by actually playing a stolen record, has to be financial reasons to try and make a fast buck through someone's misery. Good luck and I so hope you get them back, all you can do is move forward as time heals and all that but even after all these years it still angers me to think someone at a soul night could steal from a fellow soul fan, if they wanted the records that bad or did'nt have the funds I would sooner give them the fucker rather than have it stolen.

Sadly it doesn't take anyone long to find out prices of records these days with the internet etc, so i wouldn't bank on the fact the guy doesnt know the value. A simply google search and you're likely to find at least a rough figure of what a record sells for, and as a bi-product will find a media to sell them through.

Will defo keep eyes peeled for a job lot.

Worth contacting record shops too with a decsription of teh guy, list of records and detailed description of the box.

The more info you can provide on here the better (full list if poss).

I think the moral of this story is that NEVER trust ANYONE with your collection but yourself, also NEVER leave your box unlocked at ANY event no matter how friendly you are with everyone there

Lenny

Too right Lenny, on the odd occasion that I dj I always keep my records with me, even taking them to the loo. Obssesive maybe but a lot more difficult for somebody to nick 'em when I'm holding on to them  Some people may take the piss at me lugging them about but better safe than sorry :)

It's certainly not my mates that I don't trust , it's the people that I don't know that I am careful about

The nicking of girlies handbags seem to have gone up recently.

I had a jacket stolen from under my nose years ago & realise how quickly something can be taken,

This is maddening! My sympathies.

Even if he got to find out the collector's value of the records, it could be awkward to sell them. A general second hand shop wouldn't pay much. Ebay or a main dealer, surely too much chance of being detected. Likewise trying to pass on in the fairly small world of Scottish soul-collecting.

How about focussing on trying to locate him, say by a local advert offering small reward, or using social networking sites, or by using a debtor tracing agency. I think you could get a trace attempt for a modest fee, possibly on a no-find no-fee basis.

Good luck.

Alan

Ears to the ground on this one, should they appear through here, they will be confiscated and returned.

:hatsoff2:Hi All ...Well here we go again, and like Mark has already stated and I am on record stating my hatred for this type of activity, yes I have nicked a few records in my life out of junk shops and of Hippy types, and it was a common event in the early 70s, I was quite often offed a handful of records in exchange for dubes or a wrap of speed (in fact my 1st northern soul collection was obtained with money i made from dealing speed) when i think of the old days it is amazing what a wrap of sulfate could buy at 3.30am, However I have also had my box nicked and when this happens, in my case my mates just turned a blind eye to the theft??? you would be surprised if you new who witnessed the theft,

OK that was a long time ago, and we have all grown up since then,

To hear that in 2011 a box has gone really means a big theft, and should be treated as such, if the old bill don't help, you are left with 2 choices 1, let the thieve get away with it, 2, Name & Shame the person and contact people like me to retrieve them for you, a quick visit thats all that needed to get a result, AS ALWAYS  DAVE

Guest I KNOW NOTHING

i had nearly 3000 "nicked". i got divorced, moved away to let the dust settle. come back couple months later NO RECORDS. the bitch sold them. he could try LOOT if they have that in scotland. you just answer an advert for records wanted, they come give you the cash and leave. ps. 6yrs later she still wont tell me who she sold them to.

will do, but the thief is an oppurtunist, doesn't know the value of soul records, so i dont know what his plan is,

I bet he does have some idea. If he seemed interested in soul (which it would appear from your posts he was) and you were telling him about it I would guess price would have been mentioned somewhere along the line without you even realising it.

I would have had a list posted on here by now if they had been my records that had been taken.

Get Round Your Local Cash Converters, Second Hand Shops Etc, If He Doesn't Know Values Etc Seems Like The Most Likely Place To Offload The Lot!!

I Think Joan's Right You Know!! Get A List Run Off and Posted!! Then Try Distributing The List To Promoters In Your Area If They Put It Out At Their Venues Collectors Etc Will Be Made Aware!! You Never Know!! Good Luck Atb John.

Would be an idea to send the list out to record dealers too. The more pro-active you are the harder it will be for him to off load the records.

Why not put an advert on ebay uk? In the title bar, put Stolen Northern Soul Records in Scotland

It'll only cost you pence

List a couple of the titles, the area where they were nicked from etc, offer a reward...just an idea

Anyway, hope you get sorted

cheers

Paul
