on this point i wonder if anyone uses spotify to play their soul tunes at home and if so is there a decent amount of decent soul music on there?

I've never used it to be honest.  Had the app on my phone and iPod but since deleted it.  Can't imagine they have much that I don't have already apart for newer material.

The Soul City "I Shot For The Moon"...currently in the shadows of their GoodTime 45's, but this Mercury release is solid Northern Soul...should be a classic Oldie, rather than an unknown to the masses:

I gave it spins at Lifeline and other places some years ago, good under rated 45 and under the radar of many as you say.

Punches above its weight as they say...certainly sounds like a £1000 track to my ears!

Good track this Andy, Ive got it on British Portrait as a 45, which I was told when I bought it, is the only way to get it on 7?

Pretty sure I have a UK PIR 7" of this, likely to be a demo if I had it as generally just collected UK demos of Philly, Will check when I get home. I haven't seen a US one now you mention it, although not been looking too hard.

That was reissued in the mid 80's on both a 7" and 12" after it was being played by the likes of Norman Jay.  Is the 7" an edit or is it the same length as the original LP version?

Was defiantly a retrospective release, as there were quite a few miffed people (including me) who’d been playing it from the LP as at the time the LP was in-demand and quite tough to find.  Also, UK Portrait changed from a grey to a black label in the early 80s.  Sly and the Family Stone’s Family Affair/Dance To the Music and Barbara Dickson’s Caravan Song originally UK Epic releases also got re-released on black portrait as well around the same time.

Yes I use it. It can be useful when I'm using the Ipad and can't play PC only tracks on youtube or Manship. I also find that it has a good selection of Blues music.

Guest Dave Ward

This evening, I have mostly been digging about on YT, Google and the usual sites for anything by Kim Tolliver, I only knew her from the NS dancer "I don't know what foot to dance on " on the Castro label. What a voice! she recorded for Chess, Rojac, Revillot, Tayster and GA.
