Raym
After two more very successful nights over Christmas and New Year Russ and I are pleased to announce our next date at 'Club Caliente' in Peterborough. The success of these nights so far has prompted us to talk to the owners of the venue to sort out a better deal financially. This has therefore allowed us to present our next night on Friday 4th March and this will be FREE entry. We along with the other regulars at this regular Soul night hope this will encourage a few more that haven't been before to try out the night and see what you think. The music policy is across the board (from 60's thru' 70's & beyond) with our regular DJ's – Carl Fortnum and Steve Jay supported by Russ and myself and as well as a guest spot from one of our local collector/supporters. The emphasis on the night being QUALITY Soul played from the original chunky black platters. As a reminder the venue is easy to find with a safe secure well lit car park. Hot and cold food is available also tea and coffee and a well-stocked bar at reasonable prices. Here are a couple of photos of 'Club Caliente' in full swing. We have had some excellent comments and feedback and I have copied a few quotes below: "Another TOP NIGHT at "Club C" with quality tunage as usual sorry we missed Bret & Russ/Ray's early set we were later getting over for this one, but Steve J, Carl Fortnum & Russ/Ray's late set were all top notch" "As you enter through the double doors your met with a decent 'overview' of the venue.. Tables & seating area to the left, with the 'nice size' bar in front of that & extending to where the dance floor takes over. Just to the right of the entrance are another couple of tables with chairs - and also bordering the dance floor. The decks are located to the right of the entry doors – on a raised, small, stage - at the end of the dance floor.. which was a 'nice' size – with the table and chairs located at it's farthest end easily removed should 'dancer' numbers dictate the need for more floor space. Situated to the right of the floor, extending the full length of the building & slightly beyond the stage, are many lounge-chairs/settee's & tables. The toilets are tucked away to the left hand side of the venue so the open plan layout of this place ticked all the right boxes" "They also offer hot food & drinks, all served by friendly, helpful, staff. The venue is well decorated and VERY clean – especially the loo's (well, the one I went into that is..). Capacity must be somewhere around the 200 mark, I would guess (??) – but 75 to 100 is certainly more than capable of providing a good atmosphere and creating a 'buzz'" "was a great night some cracking tunes played by some of the djs including mick bb and 3 tunes from ray that i didnt know , matadors , quotations and chichi and also good to hear the doris troy played out loud. also one of russ's new purchases was v good but cant remember its title , too much cola and j2o" "Stayed until about 01.45 thought the music was top drawer for an across the board night. Ray and Russ played a good mixture of across the board underplayed tunes and with Brett Smith looking to come of age on the DJ circuit, don't worry Brett you're already there mate" "Well it was spot on for me, a few oldies played for requests, but plenty of great underplayeds too, and that is what the event says on the tin. This was my first time to visit the Caliente, and a good one it was too" "GREAT is the only way to describe this, great venue, great dancefloor, great sound system, great mix of music, and great atmosphere generated by the GREATEST thing of all ...........................the people attending ,what a fantastic crowd , a real buzz indeed , well done Russ and Ray" "This was another great night at the Caliente" "The vibe is spot on at this event with a combination of great venue plus a great crowd" "Lovely venue Guy's, New it wouldn't be a one off as soon as i saw the venue. Good bar prices & even food made to order if you wanted it..............superb!" "i dont think i have seen anything quite as bizarre as carl sitting down behind the decks enjoying fine dining whilst spinning a great set...hilarious. me and the mrs (!) had a great time, see you both soon" "I had a really good night, very sexy little venue, loads of potential. Musically very good, something for everyone (as it should be) and a friendly crowd" "This was my first Soul night (apart from Soul Essence weekend in April) for quite some time. Couldn't have chosen a better night" "Its a great venue, decent bar prices, tea & coffee available & excellent Fish & Chips...............just ask Mr. Fortnum & that's before we even touch on the music!" "A top night , good music , great deejays thanks Steve & Carl for playing my requests….Great venue Russ got great potential " "Well done to everyone involved & looking forward to the next" A few (understatement!) Raym
Therese & I, hope to be over for this one Tom Hi Tom, thanks for your input on this thread - bit thin on the ground for postings this month? Anyway 275 viewings of the thread so far, so with some good luck, weather and some good attendances recently at other local Soul nights we hope to get a fair number in through the door on Friday. I hope so as this weekend is not as busy as next and being a free entry night should attract a few more in. Cheers, Ray Link to comment

Dean
Seems lik an age since I've heard you play. I really will make a better effort to get down to this, and see if the few friends I may have may want to come. I know it's rubbish when someone comes on the thread only to say sorry I can't make it but that's the case this time. Just prompted to add my enthusiasm by the playlists at the top of the thread. Will it be 1 April next one? Hope you have a good night Russ and Ray. Playlist and pictures look great. Will see you soon. Link to comment
