BRILLIANT!!!

Night night xxx

The beast has woken !!

Last night was superb for me, the 4.30 finish time worked extremely well I thought, the great music was relentless  , everyone there seemed to be having a ball, whether they were dancing, buying, chatting, winging  or just doing beauty make overs in the toilets (ladies that is, not the men's.... but who knows ph34r.png )

I loved every second of it, yeah maybe could have done with another 20 dancers, but for a Friday night in July, just as the kids had broke up for their million weeks off, was an excellent show of groovers & strokers !! (chins that is & not the other type of stroke or even the other type :wink: )

Happy 50th Birthday Nesta !!!! Wish I'd have known you were going last night as I'd have got you a card & maybe a present :D but your lovely band of mates ensured you had a great time with all the balloons and the giggles. I've heard that the glowing pink balloon (how ace was that !!!) can stay glowing for up to 7 days, but I'm sure you'll out do the balloon in the glowing stakes

My head is hurting and my feet feel like I've walked through barbed wire so I'll say bye for now & thanks to all for another wonderful Wilton!! Keep it up !!!

Lots of love & Lipgloss

Great night at The Wilton, really enjoyed it.Thought all the dj's did the business with Bob Hinsley giving a master class of how to weave a set together, well done to Azza on his debut & he certainly seemed to be enjoying himself behind the decks.Good to see the numbers up but as always there is room for a few more & I'm sure they would have as much fun as we did.

Well done Dave & Mouse (wherever you are).

Cheers

Thouroughly enjoyed The Wilton on Friday.......it was that good that we managed to keep Donz awake all night!!! or was that more to do with Mr Atkinson??? :g::PAll dj's played brilliant spots but have to agree with Martin Azza was exceptional, not heard him before dont think, but will look out for him again  Gutted we missed Martyn on early, lovely people, warm friendly atmosphere, superb dance floor, and some of the scenes finest dj's, what more could we ask for? Please say there will be one on in September???

A really nice balance of soul music for me, including ‘Reggie Soul - My World of Ecstasy’ the young lad who was on earlier played ‘Bonny Blanchard - Baby You’re The Only One’ which I absolutely love, thanks for playing ‘Donna King - Take Me Home’ (Andy Dyson) - Just going by those three sounds alone shows the music there would please most people.

There was a 70’s instrumental track played, a real ‘Shuffler’ type of record which I knew but have never heard out, I think I have it on a C.D but can’t find the damn thing to name it, does anyone know the one I mean?

I didn’t socialise to much as was dancing most of the night - Just as well as I was suffering from ‘Northern Soul Torrets’ - Also a couple of conversations I did have were ‘Satellite Delay’ ones (I would be the one in America) - Sometimes with hilarious results though!! - As Alison said earlier, yes it would have been nice to see a few more dancing but The Wilton attracts a lot of the collectors that do their thing in the record bar that’s all.

I left the Wilton well and truly soul fixed albeit a ‘Husk‘, so hopefully got rid of some of the ‘Holiday weight’ I was carrying (I can’t believe I just wrote that out loud!)

Trev, I texted Nina that record title as it would be just irritating to ask you what it was for the fourth time…Got home, checked my phone and realised I must have texted it, alas, forgetting to unlock the key pad first - Doh!…

It’s nice to be at a place with like ‘Absent’ minded folk!

All the best,

Len.

Had a great night on Friday. I also thought the 4.30 finish was loads better as there was still a healthy crowd in come chucking out time. It's the way to go I reckon.

The music was good too. There was a good mix and not too much of one thing ( I will refrain from saying what though as I was almost lynched last time  )

Laughed lots. Best laugh of the night was one of the photo's Ali took. Get them up in the gallery hun!

A tad late in posting my look back thanks to a busy weekend but better late than never......

Really enjoyed The Wilton on Friday, and I'm not just saying that cos it's the right thing to say!! The people who attend are so knowledgeable and extremely welcoming/friendly.

When I go to a niter or a soul night I like to have a dance, a good natter, few drinks and a good listen so as to come away learning somert new. I get all those things in abundance at The Wilton and this time was no different.

Don't want to dwell on attendance as I think all those who were in have testified that it was (and will continue to be) a great night, with something for everyone. Never seen so many people fit in one record bar! A few more folk through the door would only have added to the atmosphere, so no big shakes on that front.

Thanks to those who passed compliments on my spot/tunes on the night and on here. Very much appreciated. And cheers to Martin who put me a bit at ease - was a little nervous (well nervously excited) to be playing at a place with such a reputation and history. Soon got into it and hopefully played a little something for everyone.

P.s that Latin northern thingy was Ricardo Ray - Nitty Gritty, in case you forgot! Ha. Cheap on Alegre.

My two friends who came along with me had a great time and couldn't believe how good the music was, and such a different atmosphere to other niters they've attended.

I thought Colin Denham was superb! Should be on at more do's in my opinion. All the other jocks did the bizzo though really.

Apologies to Baz, Mick n Mo for the very brief 'hello, I will come and chat to you later' thing, and never did :-( just lost track of time.

And thanks to Adams senior for the lift down and back! Door to door service.

Hope there's many more nights at The Wilton, keep it up Mouse and Boxy.

Where do I begin to tell the story of one of my favourite venues that is clinging to life by it's very

fingertips but not due to the lack of effort from the promotors or the quality of it's music but by what

appears to be apathy from the “Upfront & Rare” fraternity, we know it's a friday night & that might be

it's biggest problem but it's been changed to an early finish because of this & I know the kids have just

broken up for the summer holidays & I know it's annual holiday time at work but surely we can muster

200 bodies once every few months?? I have a feeling we may have just had the final curtain call, a pity

because at 18 years it had just come of age but it seems the only way to fill the place is by people

thinking it's the last one or by offering a bleeding badge, so prove us all wrong & make a concerted effort

if there's one in Oct/Nov.
ranting_1.gif

The story of the night was like this, through my eyes anyway, hit the road Jack about 8:30pm, worry

wart Jan's been text pest all day but now she's having a Garbo moment, so no answer to Gail's call,

“They be trying to drag Shirl out of the door kicking & screaming, saying, with pride swelling her bossom,

“I haven't shown you my new fridge de-odouriser that's strategically placed in my new red fridge in it's

pride of place position”, then there's the greiving of the leaving, checking everywhere & everyone plus

Jan will be helping her so they could be hours yet & don't forget Shirl's bag swapathon, blue or yellow or

pink or green, orange or purple or white I can't make me mind up,make me mind, tell me which one Col?”
:g:
,

as I finish Gail's phone ring, it's Jan they've not left Shirl's yet, God I'm just to good, move aside Mystic

Meg here comes Pissedit Pete, so intent am I on my small prediction (No smart remarks please) that we go

sailing by the junction
& Gail refuses to let me do a 3 point turn in the middle lane, so it up the junction

& around the outside & dosy tw*ts Gail's partner. We stop for a libation at the local tavern & people are

thin on the ground, Vic & Ash, Skeggy Mick,Brigitte & Just a Mo are the only friendly faces there & on

arrival the Car Park is just as sparse. The fag brigade are outside including my mate Dave “I'm stopping

smoking” Rivers, Nicola but no Gilly, Jen Banks with Roger inside at his post, inside were the usual

peep's, John Mc & lovely Jen plus a recent fare in the shape of Len the Taxi, Killa,Hoss, Dave Raistrick

minus Donna & Industrial strength ear plugs, nice to see Baz Atkinson paying a rare visit, Kirsty & Dee

who became most put out when the Lager stopped flowing
ranting_1.gif
but regained his good humour when he relised

it was only a barrel ending & not the bar closing, the 3 Yorkie bars were there, Trev,Richard & Andy,

Elaine had left John Lewis in crisis by leaving early with Val, Kerry adorned Chalky's arm for a rare

foray out, Mr & Mrs D were there, the effervescent happy snapper Ali H was in the house plus Paul Stead

who for some reason was not on holiday, must be an airtraffic stike or something & then there was our small

gathering of, Martyn & Lynne, Kev & Pauline, Col & Shirl with chauffer Coggy & Jan.

A table was set with balloons, cards & prezzies for the man with the million dollar smile Nesta, who was

celebrating his Big O birthday, he was soon joined by Mick,Adi & Frank in the dark arches, does that room

slope to one end? As everyone seems to end up there by nights end. Howard made it after he'd been to his

own small celibration of 40 years working at the same firm, he got a clock & they all got medals, his arrival

was one short in the shapely form of Kirsty & I'm sure I heard an audible sigh when she didn't materialise

through the doors, Disappointment or relief, You decide??
:wicked:

As for the Good, the Bad & the Ugly of the night , well there was no Ugly, the Bad was the talk of the car

park, playing a Kent copy of the Ravins
when there were 2 of the 3 (?) people there who posess an

original, a point Mr D made when he played his later, the Good came in the form of only hearing the odd

tune I didn't particularly like & I mean the odd tune, although I missed some of Dickie's stuff due to our

late arrival after a drink & detour, I enjoyed what I heard, same with Azza, whom I've not heard before,

can't really comment on Col W cos he's one of my bezzie mates but he was brilliant & Shirl loves him,

specially since he bought her a new Bright Red Fridge, frost free I'll have you know!! Dave Box played

Brand New – 1000 years, not just that but that was good enough to me, Andy D did a fantastic mix of old

& new which I dance to most of, you dancing, “We don't believe it” I hear you say, well you can thank

Mr Denham for that because he was just how I remember his sets before his last one here & after only 1

or 2 dances in the last 12 months he tempted me back to the floor, Excellent Col & finally Bob Hinsley &

as Mr Bird said he knows how to weave the magic & since the first time I ever heard him play out he's

never disappointed, it must be Robbo's influence & he even played Bobby Rich my favourite tune, which

I promptly missed somehow,Doh!!

Can't end without a mention of Val & her friend who sit on the door all night putting Bugs Bunny stamps

on peoples hands & who this time managed a few dances themself's, well done girls. Hopefully there will

be a next one & there will be more bodies attending, cos like it says on Bid TV, “When it's gone, it's gone”.

Take care, be safe & remember,” Last Friday night, Yeah we danced on tabletops & we took to

many shots”,

Spot.

Spot (and Gail) I love you!

Sorry you heard an audible sigh - it wasn't Howards fault this time (unlike a few years back when he comepletely forgot me) - it was all my own doing! If I had of been out with you all I wouldn't have been fun to be with - I'd have been too busy worrying about the family - the eldest of which is going to cause us many, many sleepless nights and last minute cancellations :(

If there is to be a next one - what date will it be?

got to disagree joan

the 4.30 finish is really not loads of anything

i know that your lifestyle these days has altered your 'overall' view of being asn 8A.M do or die all night person, fair play to you joan.

`but.... its strange- cant really call it 'an allnighter anymore in my opinion. general club venues kick out at the 4.30 ish time dont they

for me its a golden opp to use a 7am finish and try a promotion 3 hour bonus of some description to continue cutting edge soul venues are forever progressing
