Roger,

I will have to buy a record from you. I don't have any of my records! Relatives and other folks 'borrowed' them back in the day. I glad you enjoyed my work.

Those 60s recordings epitomise the sound that turned many people of my generation onto soul music. Lorraine Chandler's records in particular just ooze a class and quality that is exceptionally rare. It's a genuine honour to have you aboard.

OK, I didn't see your name, but the word 'ooze' brought me back to reality. Kidding aside, thanks for the kind words and it's an honor for me to be here.

HI LORRAINE AND A VERY WARM WELCOME TO ONE OF OUR HEROINES.

MANY STORIES ,NOT ENOUGH TIME TO TELL,WHY NOT CONVERT THEM INTO A BOOK

KEV

I truly didn't think anyone cared. Folks pay their money to be entertained and we are suppose to do that, entertain. Not being malicious, I'm just a singer and I wear/wore many hats in the music industry. I love this business, but who cares? Thanks for the welcome Kev.

Russ,

The work and the hopes that were put into that song to be submitted for a James Bond movie, OMG! It was like a fantasy to me. I was very sad when we were not chosen, but hey, look at us now!

Hi Lorraine,

Welcome aboard and many thanks for engaging with the most committed fans in the world. Obviously we love you!

I wish I'd had a video camera when I closed a particularly packed all-nighter at Cleethorpes Pier @ 8.00am in the morning with "I Can't Change" when the record was at it's zenith sometime around 1975/76.

If you can imagine 2,000 people dancing their hearts out to your record and the sound of the pier shaking to the reverberation of 4,000 stomping feet, so much so, that the sound could be heard for a 5 mile radius all around Cleethorpes, then you'll get some idea of how much your recordings are held in esteem over here! I still get a shiver down my spine and a beautiful memory every time I hear the record some 35 years later! A memory to cherish forever.

Now that you're here don't be a stranger!

Ian D X

I won't be Ian. Thanks for the welcome and the memories. I kinda knew something was going on at the last gig at Pontin's. I was going to give the background singers and musicians a little break and come in eight bars later, let them coast a little bit on "I Can't Change" but the audience knew exactly when to come in and was on their way to singing the second verse --- without me! We started the song again (I came in) and it was wonderful.

Hello Lorraine,

A big thank you for coming to Soul Source and talking to everyone. An even bigger thanks for all your Classic 45s from the 60s's !!

Didn't see your name, but thank you 'Yank' for the welcome. And you're welcome for all the classics I made as a child in the 60's!

Haha LOL. That kinda reminds me of when J.J. Barnes came over in the mid 70's and did "Please Let Me In" at Keighley Variety Club as his first song and before he could even start singing the audience were way ahead of him and he was just blown away that they knew the tune better than him. He was actually in tears.......it must have been hard for him to comprehend.......

It's kind of unbelievable really isn't it? I often wonder what goes through the artists minds when they come here and suddenly realise that a U.S. flop is actually a massively loved anthem on the Northern Soul scene. I mean, that must be some kind of trip mustn't it......?

Ridiculous really. You've had 4 anthems which is really exceptional. You're in Goddess league baby........

Hi Ian

I see you can't sleep either..

That reminds me of the first time i ever heard a soul singer sing live. It was mid 70's at the Casino, again JJ Barnes. If I had n't realised I'd become a devoted soul fan before that night I certainly did after his concert. The experience totally changed me. The artists I find and in a lot of cases Detroiters, (if I can use that expression)..certainly fit the Soul tag with excellence and gusto!

Great to have Lorraine on here isn't it.

Best

Kev

I reckon we should as a matter of duty see that Lorraine get's a copy of each of her wonderful records, does not seem right to me that she does not own her own records, remember a similar situation when Gil Blanding came on here a few years ago and we sourced him a copy of 'Rules', so what do you reckon gang? I'll get onto JM and see what he has in stock.

Hey Bearsly,

Actually, after "What Can I Do," I started writing for the stable of artist we had in Pied Piper. There was so much that had to be done. Voice arrangements (background), new songs for the new groups. People could sing, but getting them prepared for the stage was another issue. I was only two steps in front of them but I wanted them to succeed also. When one got hot, I knew it was best for all. Taking the time for me to learn my material wasn't easy. My voice (alto) was recorded in the second soprano range. Some days were better at recording, most days were not. We got through it and now it's history.

Mark, that's sweet of you. I have tapes with the original piano composition and me singing them for the first time that blows me away. I cherish these. The finish product is wonderful but the beginning is untouchable. You all hold on to them and keep it going.

Good Lord, awoken to blue skies (it is late Spring) and found Lorraine Chandler aboard Soul Source. All is well with the world!

Lorraine, when I feel like blowing the cobwebs and 'educating' my neighbours, I open the living room windows and blast 'em with 'I Can't Hold On', a record I fell in love with, like most of us on here, many, many moons ago. These records are as much a part of our lives as riding a bike for the first time, that first date, walking out of the school gates for the last time etc etc. I'm rambling. A big kiss and hug from Spain, enjoy this fiesta of love! :-)

Mac

p.s. Give Eddie P his orders too! He's another one that educates the neighbours from time to time... :hatsoff2:

Lorraine, I've let go many records over the years but never the real special ones like these three RCA Victor Demos which you signed at Stafford all those years ago, also loved what you wrote on the Johnny Dixon record which you supervised on, you may remember the Triple 'B' Four Sonics version of 'Were Are You' which you produced and Co wrote with Jack Ashford and their version of 'Tell Me You're Mine' which you were executive producer on and the beautiful 'Crying Clown' by Eddie Parker which you Co wrote and produced, you must have been a very busy lady which we thank you for.

Regards - Mark Bicknell.
