Boomerang@thorne (Saturday 13 August) *ticket Only*

Recommended Posts

Earlier this year, Karen & I took the decision to make the usual 9 hour "summer special" August Boomerang - a pre-sold 'ticket only' event for 2011. Tickets were sold out after our last two nights and as best as we could manage to legal number capacity (we are only a small venue). It was a case of timing, but I have done the best I could to match any new extra tickets from anyone who opted out, to anyone who got in touch in case any more came up.

....Hopefully you're now all digging up your tickets from where they're remained safely tucked away & we are all set for the party this week!

BOOMERANG

Saturday 13th August 2011

* TICKET ONLY EVENT *

***** < edit > CHANGE OF VENUE **** DETAILS IN my POST BELOW

Please remember that the August specials always start at 4pm and a certain "young" man who celebrates his birthday there each year, insists on taking to the decks early. We hope you'll be there to cheer him on from the start.

The DJ lineup is printed on the tickets and for the first time, I have relinquished my duty and asked another to nominate our guest DJ's. Soul Sam has chosen to be joined by his two warm-up boys Arthur and Butch, plus I'll still be there to do the resident vinyl thingy.

It will be hot, Hot, HOT inside

...and something tells me that we will be in for a seriously soulful thrashing by our guest DJ's right from the start ;-)

I put my ticket (number 2) in a really safe place......so safe I can't now find it...... :g:

I do hope you're joking Martin. Just put my ticket (number 1) in my niter bag. I'm looking forward to this alldayer very much. That is worrying me a bit because a few weeks ago I was looking forward big time to something and it went a bit wrong, but hope for the best, Boomerang has never let me down yet. Maria, Arthur, Butch and birthday boy Sam, what more can anyone want? Plus loads of my good friends there, the Canal Tavern food and drink, and the usual happy party atmosphere that pervades every Boomerang. Now got to think of what I'll request the DJs play.

* BOOMERANG does CORO * (after Noah's Ark disaster) !!!!!

Disaster struck the Canal Tavern function room via a freak flood late last week and we only learnt yesterday that we may lose the venue. Today we were told that the Inspectors shut down the back function room as it needs a total refurbishment after the water damage. Both Karen and I have visited on each day and it was pure anguish on all our faces. Keeping this all a secret while we all tried to find a solution, was not easy either!

However, the Canal Tavern have come to the rescue and teamed up with another venue in THORNE and we wish to announce that the miracle new location is:

The Coronation Private Members Club (ex W M C )

King Edward Rd, Thorne, Doncaster, South Yorkshire DN8 4BU

(look for the driveway entrance near 105 King Edward Road - almost opposite the garage)

times are still 4PM to 1AM

I was in Thorne earlier tonight and visited the new venue -> I'm smiling! :D

To update the previous replies to questions (& more) with repect to the CORONATION CLUB :

- No specialist beers, but I noticed a series of beers on tap and a good stock bar which is preparing well

- The Canal Tavern have chosen 4 cocktails to be on sale at the Coronation Club > Sex on the Beach, Woo Woo's, Funky Monkey, and Tequila Sunrise.

- You will still be served by the usual Canal Tavern bar staff who love coming to Boomerang

- We will provide nibbles early on, but there is no restaurant in the Coronation Club. [However, the Canal Tavern is nearby and will still be serving meals from midday-2pm and then 5pm-8:30pm on the day, for anyone wishing to buy a hot meal]

- Karen's refresher First Aid training, to deal with any over-excitement - has now been put to good use this week already!

- There is a separate record selling room!!! Please bring your carry-round sales boxes along or contact me to reserve a table.

- For gift ideas or mini-bus bookings, please contact Karen

- For ticket issues, please contact me > I can now allow 20 more people in, but this must be pre-paid to avoid over-capacity

- Yes, this is a usual Boomerang night music policy (and that means we take no responsibility for Sam's rebellious choices  )

- For anyone still wanting a room, please visit our website (click in our footer). Those staying at the Belmont will get a special discount of £30 per double / twin that night if they mention the event and pre-order with Diane.

- We've tried to be thorough but please contact either of us, if there's anything else we can help with

I will do my best tonight and tomorrow to contact everyone about the change of venue. We both sincerely apologise for causing any hassle by changing venues, but we hope everyone will like the new place and still be in huge party mode to make this one special.

..and the Canal Tavern function room is due to be refurbished in time for our 19th November night.

Oh I so wish I were coming.

Never got a ticket cause I thought we were away - and we have major babysitter problems AND I no longer have a driving license (not because I've been naughty but because of my vision problems)

Really hope it's a night to remember for Sam

ps. I can quikly make myself available if anyone local to me can offer me a lift and there is a spare ticket... PLEASE

Tequlia sunrise Maria? does this mean we drink tequila and after a while lay on our back and watch the sunrise...

There's a lovely big area of lawn outside the venue next to its private carpark that they might let you use til dawn ...so you don't hurt yourself this time :D

Adding some important TRAVEL details :

Please note that your SatNav will take you to a nearby street (an old entrance now blocked) and you must stay on KING EDWARD ROAD, circa No. 100 and nearly opposite No. 105.

- The entrance is via a private driveway off King Edward Road (click photos attached).

- The Canal Tavern is 0.8 miles away (click map attached : "A" point is Canal Tavern & "B" point is the new venue Coro Club) and although we were told by locals it's only a 10min walk away, I know I'm more of a 15min girl

Well done Maria for sorting out another venue. I'm sure it must have been a nightmare. Might have to bring my meal with me. Treble sandwiches all round. LOL!!

Not me, it was all down to the fantastic people at the Canal Tavern  . Karen had been there the night before to inspect the damage and told me they were on the case. I had time yesterday,so frantically rang a few places then went along to Thorne that evening as they were meeting with the new club. It was all sorted by the time I arrived and I just doubled checkedbits and visited the new venue with them all. Karen was taking care of other bits for boomerang all yesterday and guests last night. Just worked out somehow! The alternative doesn't bear thinking about, but working with nice people like everyone at Thorne has been amazing, especially after the week Britain has had.

Apologies for not including Karen in my comment, I know you work as a team.

Maria I know this is a strange question but Karen will understand - Please could you tell me (by that I mean Gilly) what the parking is like

There's nothing to explain Nicola - your man has a serious car fetish :shhh:

Gilly, if you get there early enough - you can park almost right up near the front door.

Seeing as this is all new for everyone, I hope the ss mods don't mind if I now add two more photos:

- the carpark for Gilly

- and looking the other way, is the sunrise lawn for kitch

Where is the record selling room, adjacent, same room as the music?Just need to know as if another room away from main music room I'll not bother bringing any.

We've been considering that one today via all the many photos I took last night. The room is virtually adjacent but we know Soul Sam will go where the vinyl smells strongest, so we may change our minds with layout to keep him at the party - after all, it's a woman's prerogative! :P . Please bear with us, as we rethink a few things in the rush to Saturday and hope you'll all be happy on the day.

Having said that, if you really want to sell your records in the main room, what's that thing they say in boomerang land.... - no worries mate!

m

ps. I cannot seem to change my signature to delete 'sold out', but as this venue is a little larger, please contact me if you wish to pre-arrange buying additional tickets for Saturday night, as we have been allowed to sell a few more. Last chance tomorrow (Friday) please.

‘Soul Sam’ is exactly the same age as my Dad! - Unfortunately, my Dad was ‘Dustman Dave’ not quite the same ring to it lol …(Up to his retirement anyway, then he took up another ‘hobby‘…)

Looking forward to helping Sam celebrate his big day. As I said to Maria, the man deserves a knighthood for entertaining us lot for so long!

See you all there,

Len.

P.s - Maria - Great idea, keeping the record dealers in the main room (If it's feasible!)

Hi Dave,

I'm going to have a pint ot two while watching the test match in the Windmill... i think they do food all pm....

The new venue does not have Sky but the back bar (not main room) will be available before 4pm for drinks as we have full private hire from afternoon to close. Not sure what others are doing before Boomerang starts as we'll be in the main room many hours before to set things up.

It's up to you, but we were hoping people would buy their meals at the Canal Tavern. Their staff is losing out on work while the function room is closed and other homes and business are effected in that area by the floods, plus they're opening the restaurant early just for us.

It seems they can accomodate the test cricket too (will edit this to confirm if the right channels are covered)

....need to disappear for part of today, but please PM or text if we can help. We're on the case with other bits too and will get back to you soon. DJ roster coming up later too.
