Which Northern Track You Dislike The Most

Recommended Posts

I really can't stand Nolan's if I could only......can't even finish the title it's that bad when I hear it I can see Cliff Richards it reminds me of one of His seventy's thing's like Carrie dosen't live here any more or thing's along that line Derek Allen used to argue about this with me for years but it's crap sorry i know it get's a few dancing but it's cold sick in your porridge time regards Simon.

Agree it does nowt for me either - but it reminds me of the Rolling Stones rather than Cliff Richard

Paris Sleepless Nights bloody dreadful. The bloke cant sing AND it sounds off key as well.

Bobby Kline Say something nice etc. Garbage

And that Goerge Lemons. Someone said earlier about rarity. This should be dumped. Utter utter crap.

Feel better now.

I could have written all of that myself!

Excellent choices Steve.

Paris had a record as "Mr tears Paris" and that's equally as bad if not worse.

MVPs

Happy Cats

Baby Dolls

Didn't like the MVPs at all but I could understand it getting plays - but the other two are so bad certainly in terms of an allnighter

Tony Galla is another one I wouldn't be too disappointed never to hear again.

Oh and Billy Arnell Tough Girl - bad to these ears

But it's all about different tastes - love Manifesto that already been mentioned and also Lou Pride overplayed but fantastic too and I suppose there's a difference for me between overplayed tunes and bad ones

Sorry, but anything by Rufus Lumley, c&w at it's worst

Right. Thats enough. ENOUGH!!!

Some absolutely fantastic tunes on this thread. I can let them pass, even classics like Paris, Bobby kline etc. Genius tho they are. but I cant let Stronger Than Me be selected at all. let alone ahead of trite shite like childish sqeakings of the Aeroplane Song or the out of tune durge that is the Professionals - Thats Why I Love You.

I curse you all, to listen to the Ian levine remixes all day every day for 12 months. That should show you what real aural pain is.

Ike & Tina Turner - Dust My Broom, and The Jewels - We Got Togetherness, What a bl**dy noise that is!

Stronger Than Me deserves no mention in this thread! Brilliant, and a vastly under rated tune IMO.

Truly, One man's meat is another man's poison.

I really like some of the stuff mentioned on this thread.

Have to agree with "The Larue" though. - Big in Wigan in 74 - I hated it then and I hate it now. Fotunately it hardly ever gets played anywhere.

Do I love you and The Snake are awful

And I never really understood the attraction of The Right Track - gets me off the dancefloor straight away.

But... are Do I love You and the Snake really awful, or have they become awful due to overplaying etc?? :g:

Julian Covey - A Little Bit Hurt........ More like major trauma.

Ketty Lester - Somethings are better left unsaid..... Or as the case may be left unplayed.

Mel Torme - I'm comin home baby... I'm going home baby..

And anything by Bobby 'Bleeding' Goldsboro..... Unless it's Honey ranting_1.gif

This topic is always fascinating and sometimes disturbing. I can't believe some of the choices. Frank Wilson and Ruby Andrews may have outstayed their respective welcomes but are prime NS records. Frankie & Johnny seems to get up noses perhaps because of its 'British' heritage but is a beautifully crafted piece of music with real emotional impact. Lady In Green is underground vocal group soul of the very highest order. If Lou Pride on Suemi was discovered today people would be fighting each other in the streets to own a copy. Joe Jama and Joey DeLorenzo are maybe not to my personal taste but would undeniably have been huge records at any of the pivotal venues in the scene's history.

The one record which always seems to get a free pass on here for reasons which I cannot fathom is Babe Ruth, which sounds like nothing more than a fourth-rate Lena Lovitch album track. If anyone tried to play that as a newie today they would surely be lucky to escape a venue without being tarred and feathered.

At the risk of being hung drawn and Quartered by the northern soul ten commandement brigade

Pookie Bloody Hudson I think its very souless and far too poppy , I just dont get it ? Which appears to cause no end of amusement to Browny when he plays for the 100000000000's that request and love it and then he sees me winsing with pain at the sound of it in the dark corner of the stage.

I also dislike the "is that a guitar you are playing intro" ..in what shall I do , sounds so corney to my ears ... I guess having to hear it on repeat play for a number of years has made it become my Guanmontanmo bay tune , my ears shrivel at the prospect of hearing it :wicked:

Over to the badger baiters

yes I know I am in the minority on this one .... It won't be the first time I don't agree with the general concensus of opionion , never having done Wigan I guess the memories attached to the tune are just simply not there for me. Got the darn thing in my head now :wicked:

I could never dislike this no matter how many times I've heard it, it takes me back to a very exciting time and this was my favourite record back then

Same here - the first NS record I ever bought and taught myself how to stomp to! Love it still......................but could've done without the god-awful vocal remake!

The diabolical Blanche Carter first over the line, Stemmons Express a length away in 2nd (although strangely I do like the Precisions "Such Misery"), Mel Britt in 3rd spot a short head in front of Bill Bush..and trailing behind in last spot Marc Copage....

HUH? There's been a vocal remake of The Champion? (Luckily) I must've missed that! - Christ! The instrumental is a class stomper, but I bet that's awful!!

Just seen something in the "WANTS" section that reminded me of a tune I dislike intensly

"Bing Bong" by The Determinations - WTF is that all about?!!

Most of the top 100 all time over played oldies sound shite these days thanks to the one celled dj's that play them!, frankie beverley's-if thats what you wanted, being a particular that has me cringing when i hear it!, 99.5% of R n B you hear being played makes me wanna cry  , but Holly St. James is really does tip me over the edge......oh and Lou Pride etc etc etc :shhh:

Detroit Executives 'Cool Off'..............first time I heard it come on at the Casino I nearly fell over laughing...........how anyone can relate that tune with Soul or Northern Soul is totally beyond me ......and I actually like 'Halos Are For Angels'!!!!

Always reminds me of the Floaters 'Float On'..(that's the Execs' and not Blanch by the way)....from 1978....."Hi, my name is Larry, I'm Sagitarius..... and I'm a complete pratt......" etc

I know where you're coming from with Cool Off - first time I ever heard it, Pep played at Sammies, Willenhall, I thought jeez, this must be the worst thing I've ever heard, a month later it was my top sound and I actually bought it on my first ever trip to Wigan, I was chuffed to say the least. Still love it now.

We Got Togetherness - The Jewels

Scratchy - Travis Wammack

I'm Waiting - Bill Bush

We Can Make It - Mello Souls (Somebody on here once compared it to The Del Larks - the only similarity is that both discs are approximately 7 inches in diameter !!!)

Can't Live This Way - Barnaby Bye

To me the Jewel's is one of the best records ever,or at least the best record from 1964 ever. :D oh I'll hold you frankie and johnny as well as picture me gone bobby bennett are scraping the barrel
