Toby Jones in "Don't Forget the Driver" , another great performance.

And just watched the last ever series of "Still Game" , this one will be sorely missed.

Not long until the final season of Game of Thrones. Really looking forward to this, especially after such a long wait, although like many I'm sad it's coming to an end as it's been superb throughout.

According to "Line Of Duty", you can only become a high ranking police officer if your surname begins with 'H'.  Hilton and Hargreaves are now deceased, leaving only Hastings.

For viewing it's fine but I'm rather taken aback when a well-established genre [books mainly] is suddenly hailed in the mainstream as something new.

See Northern Soul.

Let's face it the world created could be straight out of Robert E. Howard's Conan series and dragons, royal dynasties etc are not exactly hitherto unknown in fantasy series.

Give me "American Gods" or "The man in the high castle" any day.

Is Game of Thrones being described as a new genre? Not seen that myself, and agree with you that "sword and sorcery" has been around for a very, very long time.

A double televisual treat for us tonight - episode one the new Game of Thrones AND the latest episode of American Gods. Each to their own, of course.

Think the first few series were more like a grimey (yorkshire accents and all  😉)  follow on production of HBO's Rome but with a increased level of sex and violence rather than the 'normal  "sword and sorcery", I'd say the 'sorcery' aspect was very low key at first ?

I'd say so in the context of high production value TV from various film/TV critics or social commentators I've read.

But then these are the same people who write about Coldplay, Mamma Mia, Eurovision or BGT !

Indeed, that aspect start off rathewr low key - although the 'sorcery' aspect was introduced to us right from the first episode with talk of White Walkers being encountered on the other side of the wall. The title of the first episode is "Winter is coming", which we soon learned is essentially the primary plot line alongside the dynastic infighting and the race to claim the throne of swords.

A budget of US$90 million to produce series 8, so US$15 million per episode. Mind you, when Game of Thrones started, the budget wasn't anywhere near so grand at all, and I think it's a testament to those backing the show that they've had the desire to lavish so much on what has become possibly the biggest TV show of the last 10 years. The investment has paid off.

Never seen it. I`m not really into dragons and that kind of thing. It seems like it`s a lot like Lord of the Rings only with plenty of $hagging?

saw episode one back in the day and turned over when Tyrion was being serviced by  a nice young medieval sex worker, just thought it was some weird soft porn thing. Fast forward a bit, someone told me to read the books, which I did, loved em, some of the best stories out there. Went back and watched the show having read the books first and really enjoyed  it albeit prefer the novels. Great series of TV imo.

Altered Carbon on Netflix.  Adult sci-fi, will appeal to fans of Blade Runner.  The budget for the first season was more than that of the first three seasons of Game of Thrones.  Set 300 years in the future, the wealthy can live forever as their mind and soul are digitised and imprinted on a "stack", which can be implanted into a new body or "sleeve" when the old body dies.  The main character is given a new body after being imprisoned for a couple of centuries,  and offered his freedom if he can solve a murder for a wealthy industrialist.  The murder victim is the industrialist himself.

Looks great on UHD.

haven't got past episode 2 of that, is it worth giving it a go ?

Game of Thrones last night was a welcome watch and bang on form , though as only 5 episodes left has to go at some pace to tie everything up...

I didn't care much for Ricky Gervais until I saw this. Also helped me understand the range of emotions my recently bereaved friend was experiencing.  I was hooked and watch the whole lot in one go.

Just watched the first episode of The Looming Tower, about the rivalry between the FBI and CIA's counter terrorism departments, and the lack of co-operation leading up to 9/11.  Only nine more episodes to go.

Good to see this is getting an airing on BBC2.

Last night's episode of Game of Thrones was dedicated entirely to preparing for the battle with the White Walkers.  It'll be interesting to see who's left standing at the end of next week's show.

Thought the Line Of Duty plot this week was a little weak in the way Hastings did everything possible to make himself look guilty. Believe he will be absolved in the Series finale on Sunday and have come round to my wife's conclusion that Gill Biggelow is actually "H".

A mate of mine/distant relative was one of the patients on the first series (S1ep2)  where they drained every bit of blood from his body and froze him in order to tackle a tumour that was growing up the biggest blood vessel in your body. I found it both fascinating and horrible at the same time. On a tangent, he likes a bit of Northern

He can't speak with having his tongue cut off, so Cersei ought to be a little taken aback by hearing him speak.  Cleganegate will be fun, the mountain will fall, Bronn will commit suicide as a noble gesture and Ser Pounce will spray the Iron Throne.
