Glad that that was your experience around that time, but how do you reach the conclusion that The Casino was still ruling the roost if you didn't attend the other nighters mentioned, as I & others on the thread obviously did, & have totally different views ? Wigan ran for 8 years an astounding feat, but for 3 of those 8 years there were other nighters that were, in my oppinion a better night out.

There was a strong contingent from Warrington who used to be regulars at St Ives , Cleggy & The Fleet BTW , if it was such a bed of roses at the time why did they travel 200 miles instead of 20 ?......Also used to meet up with them at Coalville, Derby , Notts Palais & The KGB in Sheffield on the odd occasion.

As I said I'm glad that you had a cracking time at Wigan during those years, just as I did in 76, early 77, 80 & 81 :hatsoff2:

Eddie Holman - Where Im Not Wanted / Hurt .......Never remember hearing them anywhere except The Casino as newies

Hey Martyn,

It's a fair point, to be honest at that time, I was 16+ from 78 onward, I didn't need to travel too much when I had it all on my own doors step (at that time), Parr Hall in between, but drifted off the scene & got into other things for twenty years, like watching football (I'm a Spurs fan & was traveling around the whole country watching my team get beat mostly, including the old 2nd Division with what little money I had left from buying vinyl), getting married & family, acid house :) , career, that I'm still in.

We used to go to Colwyn Bay nighters & always went to the Ritz Dayers too, but it's best days had already gone by then if I remember rightly.

Not going to argue with you about it Martyn, i"m well aware that great soul was happening elsewhere too

Keep the faith brother.

Cheers ears

Jades "I'm where it's at" Searling had the only copy

He was supposed to have bought two and smashed one , so he could say he had the only one

he covered the label with plain white paper and i think he said it was by the Street lights

rumour has it that a certain DJ (with a limp ) from the Stafford area borrowed it

and the following week Emi discs of it were on sale everywhere !

Searling went absolutely ape shit ! and what happened to that copy is now in northern soul folk law ! lol

hmmn..interesting..i spoke to Searling when he was still playing Jades as an exclusive..he said he bought it from a guy fairly local '..for £6 ..because it looked rare..' never mentioned a second copy..
