Guest Tigerpants Posted June 12, 2012 Share Posted June 12, 2012 I have been asked to post on behalf of the promoters of the proposed New Skegness Weekender at the Grosvenor Hotel. I will say straight away that this proposed event has now been cancelled. Before those of you who have orchestrated a vociferous campaign against this event pat yourselves on the back and go out for a celebratory drink, you might like to know why this has happened. This event was never planned as a malicious act against other promoters but was a response to a demand from many soul fans that missed the event in its old format at the Grosvenor Hotel. The promoters have been part of the 'scene' for many years and had a genuine interest in promoting a quality event. From the moment the event was announced there has been an organised attempt to motivate people to speak out against and boycott the event. Normal business rivalry was to be expected and in the normal course of things the weekender would have survived or not depending on the success and demand for the event. Last night, (11June) however, things took a much more sinister turn. The promoters received several threatening phone calls and text messages, making threats against property and individuals. These seemed to be the acts of about four desperate and unstable individuals and could have been ignored. In the middle of night at around 3am, one of the promoters partners received a call in which the caller named the persons child and the school which they attended. They further suggested that this child should not walk home from school alone. The distress caused as a result is unimaginable and resulted in the decision to abandon the event. As the promoter states 'There is no soul event on earth worth risking the safety of your family for'. It is too much to hope, that those responsible for this, will feel shame for their actions but hopefully the 99.99% of decent soul fans will feel it on their behalf. This sort of behaviour has never been an acceptable part t of our scene. This is well out of order, this is Dave's neck of the wood, surely you can trace the phone call at 3am in the morning, to get to the bottom of things?
