Nickg
Obviously this post must be part of the soul source 7th anniversary competition, to guess where this event took place, and does take place, within the nearest 50 yards : ) NickG Link to comment
Guest Johnny One Trout
What you have to do is search back through old fliers to find out where Carl was DJing on the 27th ;o))) JoT Nice playlist BTW where ever it was ;o)) Link to comment
Guest in town Mikey
and definately NOT The Northern Soul Top 500. Quite a few of them would be in my Northern Soul top 500 mate, without a shadow: Freddie North, Gerri Diamond, Vondells, Bobby Kline, Johnny Mae Mathews....... Link to comment
soul45s
The event was at the Pockets Leisure Centre in Walsden nr Todmordon, Lancs. Great venue, cheap entry (£3) friendly people and promoters who are not scared of playing something a bit different during their sets. For me its a refreshing change to hear lesser known and quality underplayed sounds during the night, mixed in with RnB, 70s, 80s, 90s, some choice Motown cuts, quality oldies, current sounds and rarities. It would be nice to see a few more people through the doors, give these lads your support, they deserve it! its no use moaning about the predictabilty of some clubs playlists (and I know a lot of us do!). If you want to hear something different, get along to the next one on Friday 24th September 8pm till late. cheers Paul Link to comment
Guest in town Mikey
Gets on Soap box. That is the answer to anyone who goes to a club regularly. Dont moan, just try somewhere else. It is inevitable that if there are regular DJs, they only have so many records they can play. The guests generally add the 'new' sounds. This is where the promoters imagination comes in. Booking guys who )hopefully) play different styles to the regulars and possibly last months guests. If you are tired of hearing the same songs, be polite and chat to DJs. They are probably fed up with feeling pressured into playing the 'floor fillers'. Link to comment

I have asked plenty of DJ's very politely to play something different from the usual oldies and floorpackers, the usual reply is along the lines of "I dont have stuff like that with me" or "I cant play anything like that, it'll clear the floor!" So what, if it clears the bloody floor, does it really matter that much, will they never get another booking?? The worst reply is "yes i'll play it, then they dont!" Im off to buy a big bag of Toffees to offer to the DJs this Friday... cheers Paul Link to comment

Guest in town Mikey
God Knows is borderline. Spoils a good list. Ed Going to be humming that all day now. Its one of those that when heard once in a blue moon is great. I think it suffered by being stuck on the other side of Interplay. Both good in my book. They helped get me interested in Northern Soul. But I agree with what you said about borderline. But then again, its great when a DJ goes out on a wing, and chucks in something that doesnt get much play nowadays. Something like God Knows or Out on the Floor, hey Janine?? Link to comment
Tomangoes
Not heard Tim Tam and his Turn On's or Gary Lewis and his soulfull playboys either, how left wing would you like them to go. Ed Link to comment
Supercorsa
Something like God Knows or Out on the Floor, hey Janine?? What about "The Entertainer" for a change, eh Janine? Link to comment

Guest Jamie
I rate God Knows in the same bracket. Not heard for a while, and it does the business on the floor, I suppose that's where Nini gets her kicks!!!!! Jamie Link to comment
