Picking up on an events thread, what are the worst records ever played, and who put the dirty deed on that turntable for the first time. Own up you DJ's, who got Tim Tam's 'wait a minute' breaking first. Did they all come from Wigan??

Ed

'Wait A Minute' sold 30,000 copies in its first week of release according to this site

www.keener13.com/timtam.asp

Perhaps they all emigrated to Wigan?

Going out on a limb here but you want sh*te? Barbara Mills - Queen Of Fools. Oh my God what a pile of crap. Don't know who discovered this and don't really care to be honest but it's terrible. What's it worth? Who cares? If I won the lottery I'd buy up every copy I could find and snap them. Do you think I've understated my dislike of this record or should I make my case firmer?

As I never went to Wigan I only heard Nine times out of ten comparatively recently when a friend sent me an RA of it. Couldn't believe it. Indifferent Eurovision stuff. how could it be played at a northern night.

We all may have laughed about the Gap Band at the Plinston dance competition, but at least I'd call that a soul record, probably get shot for saying that but you know what I mean.

And people moan about Modern soul records.

I suppose not going to Wigan I shouldn't comment but it does surprise me that stuff like that was played. What year would that have been?

Mick's right, Queen of Fools an all time classic and much sought after in the old days on UK label, Tim Tam stomping Detroit whilst not everyones cup of tea in these 'enlightend' times on the scene, no one can deny they were played and welcomed in the past. Now if we're talking doddgy toons, omitting those recent Levine spins, there is always the Cartoon Candy carnival, Brotherhood of Man to start....

Honestly guys, not ALL the crap was played at Wigan! What about Staffords "Peanut duck" and my 'favourite' piece of recently played S***E, Gerri Grainger "Just tell him Jane said hello"!!

No no. The Futures is a lovely record! One of my all time faves in fact, and not a recent play at all... NOTE: If you're gonna buy one, keep away from eBay seller, scoot555o_1 - the b**tards'll send you a UK boot (after using a pic of an original in ad), then send hate mail when you ask what happened... B**tards...

My eyesight may be failing me, but f***, even I can see that A. It's not the original and B. The seller has made no mention of this slightly potent fact. Ok, so the seller should do their research, but sorry, what a wanker!

Seven Day Fool - Etta James

When I hang up my loafers and inevitably go downstairs they can save a fortune on their heating bill by not bothering with the fire and brimstone and just grafting some headphones onto me playing this for eternity. Argghh!

Disagree on Barbara Mills though, taken for what it is it's a great record.

When the Casino was flooded from every direction with styles of sounds, I am sure some people may have turned their nose up at them, but only the ones that were "in the know".

I know many a guy whose spirit was dampened upon reaching the Casino to find all sorts of "pap" played but this only fueled their desire to find the good sounds.

With every bad (as in bad, not baaad!) sound there are another ten to be found that will prove their worth. Thus the adventure in finding something that has been missed or not even found.

Ho hum, where's my copy of Gene Toones!!!!!! Not

Totally agree! Remember seeing this advertised in B&S along with Cracked up over you and Sounds of Lane (another pile of shit) - basically couldn't wait to hear this "legendary sound". What a disappointment. Almost as big a downer as hearing "One wonderful moment" for the first time; although that one has grown on me, for no accountable reason.

It's true, and unfortunatly, it was the much respected Carl Willingham! Played it at York last week, altho' I must add, that it was the only crap record in an otherwise immaculate set. But hey, how can you play that alongside the Passions and "teardrops" ??

May be somewhat controversial but personal hates for me are:-

Village of Tears - Benzine

Believe it or Not - Nabay

Fascinating Girl - George Lemons

Say something nice to me - Bobby Kline

Just a boys dream - Phonetics

When I'm on good form, there's not many records that will stop me dancing but these are five that defiantely will. Still, it gives the wife chance to force feed me with water before I disappear back on to the dancefloor for another two hours of profuse sweating!! I suppose I should be thankful for the break!!

Yes, I know they've got a combined value running into several thousands of pounds but it don't make them good records!!! IMO!! :-)))))

Smile because you like what you hear or smile because you're delighted you don't have it?

How about The Newbeats - Bread & Butter?

Laughing out so loud...............

I have a picture cover of that somewhere.......reissued when Little thief used it on a tv advert... only kept it as the cover makes me laugh more than the record (honest)......... A picture of a couple of slices of bread and butter, with that really cheap bright yellow butter put on with a pallet knife really yellow and thick.. and on the other side a waitress in a little thief restaurant... She must have been so proud of herself..
