Patto Posted July 15, 2012 Share Posted July 15, 2012 This thread may sink or swim but i just love talking about my records and other peoples records.So here is the concept i'm looking for 1/ All records from your own collections and all original UK or US releases 2/ 10 choices of records 3/ UPTEMPO BLACKPOOL MECCA/CLEETHORPES/CLIFTON HALL SOUNDS 70s stompers seem to be resented by the oldies crowd but were a major part of the scene at all the legendary venues.They were difficult to dance to and took skill and youthfull energy maybe why they are passed over nowadays as we all nurse our bad backs and knackered knees.But you dont see many of the young uns dancing to them either.Its almost as if they are being rubbed out of the present soul night scene.So lets see your record lists of your fave shufflers and 7os stompers Lets have no infighting about what sounds were played where first,generally looking for the tracks in your collections that are associated with these venues.The records you select can be well known or underplayed,common or scarce,big money or cheepies.They must be its up to you as long as you own em.So 20 records to pick which represent a great of the Northern scene should be interesting if anyone still likes talking about records anymore we will see.I will kick off the proceedings with my offerings. Just for clarity you are referring to Cleethorpes era 1 (Mary Chapman) and era 2 (Steve Croft) in terms of niters and time scales? You have posted some decent tunes to get things started. Patto Posted August 4, 2012 Author Share Posted August 4, 2012 I made the point that the Word Stomping was also used to describe a style of Dancing to pounding uptempo Soul,i'm not trying to redefine anything to suit my preferences just stating how things were for me.I'm sure most people my age will be familiar with seeing this style of Dancing performed to records like The Champion,So Is The Sun,Psychadelic Soul,etc.Later on the style was modified with a bit more footwork and used to dance to the 70s uptempo numbers already highlighted in the thread.These uptempo 70s records in my opinion have just as much relevence on the Northern Soul Scene as say The Jewels.Why pigeon hole the word stomper surely there can be 60s stompers and 70s stompers Not got a clue what your Fat old bald men comment is about but i know many who would still love to be able to Stomp like they used to to at Clfton Hall to Janice.All i wanted to do mate was talk about RECORDS and the fact that at a lot of soul nights nowadays the 70s danceable stuff is overlooked and its a shame.I would love to hear the odd few thrown in to playlists just to remind us of how good some of em still sound out loud 1 Link to comment Social source share More sharing options...
