Not the Roulette Original, but the version that someone spliced together from various sources, intro etc. It was obviously the Roulette version but with a different intro etc, PYE tried to copy a few months later but it was different. I remember hearing it at the time, obviously it was on an acetate, also heard at venues. It was then released by PYE with their version/changes and released with Chuck Wood on the other side. Anyone? It was nice to hear it again after all these years, just as I remembered it. Thanks, the atmosphere, hand claps, Magic. Footsie, part of Northern Soul history and it will no doubt stay there but I enjoyed listening to it on this occasion - Wonderful stuff. I know that the track isn't in vogue now but at the time when Instrumentals were played quite often, I'm suprised that this version was never booted on vinyl, or did PYE beat them to it on this occasion. Apparently it's gone - I used to have a mate at the BBC who used to nick me quite a bit of footage (Top Of The Pops mainly - er, David Bowie stuff, Xmas specials etc) and I asked him to look for that and he never found it. Bob H insley was quite nice about I managed to get Shifty to play it at Cleethorpes w/ ender on the sunday night a few years back .It's hard to imagine how massive this record was at the time , and Pete's sound clip epitomised why I loved Northern Soul in the first place , that atmosphere was almost frightening !! Wiganer1 Posted January 11, 2006 Share Posted January 11, 2006 Pete and Sister Dawn thankyou so much for those wonderfull sound clips.I was never at the Casino I started goin to allnighters about a year after it closed and haven`t heard many taped nights from the Casino.It made me go week at the knees listening to the punters.WONDERFULL.,sort of puts things into context Northern Soul wise. =========== hi andy i only caught the casino right at the end,,and went the last three all niters...but the casino changed me FOREVER a few years later my mate gave me 3 tapes of the 5th anniversary from wigan and they BLEW me away with the atmosphere as well as the sounds. this not only started me on a 21 year pilgrimage to get all the sounds played at wigan but also collecting live wigan casino tapes,,,im currently upto 95 tapes of the casino from oct 73 to the end of an era ..and are as important to me as my record collection.... im also in the middle of writing a book about my live tape expliots and some of the sounds ive tried to get over the years.. ive got all the tapes catalogued and have identied some great forgotten tunes from this great era that have hardly seen the light of day since... spent many hours ringing up pete smith and others over the phone asking' whats this record - you've got to tell me' and the poor buggers could hardly hear owt down the phone.. for anyone that interested,,im ALWAYS looking to buy.sell swap my tapes for more of the same,,,im aiming to get all my fave oldies on a live tape and get all the sounds from the tape on vynil... anyone wants a copy of my list ,email me at wiganer1@btinternet.com ive also done a comp cd of the BEST atmosphere from wigan from 73 to the last night with some great tunes given the Wigan Casino treatment.. sad git aint i but I DONT CARE keep the faith mark 'fluff' freeman Link to comment Social source share More sharing options...

I never personally liked footsee but listening to that makes me remember why most of my friends did, the 3 before 8 and tainted Love, what can I say, brings tears to my eyes hearing those songs like that claps and all, you can feel the energy in that room full of youngsters. This was what it was all about and to all those knockers of oldies and the more younger people ( who would actually have been considered old foggies back then ) on the scene today who poo poo Wigan and that era just don't have a clue about what it was like and I am afraid to say they never will have, and before anyone says oh it was the gear everyone was on then thats rubbish too as I and quite a few people didn't take so much as an asprin. The record is John E Paul and as the chorus builds to a climax, I do a fantastic spin and go right off the edge of the dance floor and fall over an adidas bag, fortunately the tape recorder picks this up secondly is a clip of The Pointer Sisters "Send him back", it follows the dreadful Pat Williams Orchestra, now what you need to know is when this was recorded which was around April 77, Send Him Back hadn't been played in the big room for over a year...just listen to the reaction from the people picked up on the microphone. This sort of thing makes absolutely no sense to most people but it sent a huge shiver down my spine. Why can't we have a purpose made GOOD documentary/programme DVD containing any remaining footage/sounds like this? Not a Tongue in cheek attempt by someone who doesn't understand or really care what it was all about. I know that our scene has always been an underground scene, so often misunderstood. I have always felt let down by the media over the years. The missed opportunities throughout the years to capture these magic moments on film, doesn't bear thinking about. Surely it wouldn't do todays scene any harm if we had a GOOD informative look at our wonderful past. After all is this not where the roots of today's music lies? It sort of underlines my point - The Media scored an own goal by not realising the potential of the footage that they once had. We Treasure any footage we have, so it couldn't be in safer hands now. If you remove the artists from SWONS you've got the best documentary there is about the history of Northern Soul. That will do for me.
