Davenpete Posted September 19, 2012 Share Posted September 19, 2012 Does anyone else remember The Dooleys being launched on Nationwide (I guess about 1976) as the UK's first 'home grown' Northern Soul group? There was footage of them dancing on what I think was an empty Wigan floor - wasn't long after Nationwide did a feature on the Casino. Funnily enough if you think about Love of My Life and the cheesier end some of the pop-disco sounds around in that period... Goldsoul Posted September 19, 2012 Share Posted September 19, 2012 The Dooley family were based in Ilford, Essex as a showband in the late 60's. Following TV appearances GTO signed them in 1975. I interviewed them when I worked for Magic in the 90's. I even compiled one of the group's tracks for the North of Watford CD series. Lovely 70's Pop. One of them (Alan?) used to sometimes drink in my local, the Hunt Lane Tavern, Chadderton, Oldham. Always in the lounge bar though - never the vault...
