I never realised this was played at Casino, when was this?

Played around 76 onwards (if memory serves). Can be found on a CD of Casino, the one where it is narrated at the begining ...

Loved it then but fell out of favour. Not seen it on Dore much but available on Joe Boy everywhere.

Played again at Stafford but again sank below the horizon. Great old sound to it

Way before my time, 76, I only remember if from Stafford, but then lots of things from that time had a couple of gos earlier but didn't make it. Do you know who played it at Wigan

Not sure I agree it was below the radar in the 80's, it was fairly massive then, Not sure who was first then, I always think of Ion but suspect someone like Guy may have had it first, anyone remember.

Fantastic Northern Soul.

I don't mean during the 80's I mean it was popular then but now seems to be a forgotten toon. Seldom, if ever gets played. These days there are so many 100mph and crossovers played that the older, more mellow sounds, are getting drowned out ( Not saying everywhere before people start 'putting me right' ) - Have to be careful what you say on here !!

Some great stuff came to the top thanks to Stafford. Awesome place and one of the reasons we can still go to Northern do's these days, kept it alive !!

This was massive for Keb towards the end of Stafford and just beyond, I eventually convinced him to part with it a few months after TOTW closed but had to trade Charles Brandy on Blue Cat to get it. As far far as played at Wigan ... not as far as I know it was deemed as a new sound when Keb played it, just because its on a Wigan CD doesn't mean it was played there. If you still want a copy on Doré Andy Dyson did have a spare, it has also turned up on ebay for around 500 within the last year (bargain)

I played this at Hitsville weekender Mojacar this September (Sunday night spot),allways attracts interest. :) not for sale tho sorry.

And it sounded great Mate. As I said at the time, I think that's the first time it's been played at Hitsville. It kinda dropped off peoples radars a number of years ago. Perfect for reactivation now I'd have thought.

Regards,

Dave

The alternative theory, from people who were there obviously, I was still painting my face with lightning strikes, it was too soulful and subtle for the average 1976 punter.........

Well as you weren't there it'd be best not to make such daft comments and read my playlist wouldn't it?

And if you were painting your face with lightning strikes in 1976 you must have looked pretty daft as you were three years too late... :g:

I seem to think I heard it at The Casino but fleetingly. Obviously, we don't hear everything that gets played. As it came and went very quickly it may have slipped under the periscope.

As Pete says, a lot of the 'slower' stuff played back in the day. We weren't all 100mph slaves.

I like it. It would be a sad world if we all liked the same stuff. Vive La Difference

Lets not fall into an argument over this !!

100 mph slaves  don,t believe all thats said to you out and about .........as has been said.......a fairly regular play at my fav venue........it,s not about 100 mph it,s about the right type of beat hence ray marchand fits in now and then along with other more mellow tunes (they just don,t get played elsewhere).....as you have observed :D

There is an instrumental to this, on the flip of one of the cheap whispers or superbs tracks on the label, titled "Claire De Looney" or something similar, not as good as the vocal, but a bit of trivia someone may find remotely interesting.

Des

On the flip of The Whispers "Take A Lesson From The Teacher" and, according to soulfulkindamusic, two other Doré 45 from around the same time.
