Has anyone got any info on how the movie production is going or even if it is going ahead ???. Has any one been approached with regard to advice etc, etc, etc. What about a release date. Also if anyone knows & I appreciate that this may be a little premature, but will the movie get a US release ????.

Any info welcome.

Best Russ

Surely some one must know something ????

Russ, From what i understand via an email from the production company recently which said that the film was going into production around March time, as for an American release who knows???? Also in the treatment they sent me seems that Kevin Roberts is involved as musical advisor etc. i'm sure Kev will be able to shed more light on the progress of the project.

Hello Russ - no info, just a thought do we really need it? We do ok. It'll probably have the same angle as This England -it's rough oop north and the only escape from the tedium of t' tripe mill is via gear, vinyl and 'niters.

Not that I'm cynical or anything.

Northern Soul The Movie ?? Soulvation ? are working on a full length filum that is a re-working of the 60 min DVD of 2 years ago, John Moore is the producer, the film is in its final editing stages and will run at about 105 mins as far as I am aware contains more interviews, and more footage of recent venues also old photographs etc.

John was looking for a distribution deal to get it into cinemas in the |UK

its a tough job but good luck to them, Rob

Just had another thought on this--wasn't something being filmed in Nottingham about 18 months ago ???

i cant imagine the film being entirely about the northern scene. it will be a backdrop (excuse the pun yes.gif ) to a love story like the majority of films.

i also believe that about 0.00001% of its viewers will complain about its authenticity. (however, please ignore my stats as i was told recently that 64.7% of stats are made up on the spot wub.gif )

Look forward to it tho

anyone got any more info?

On the other hand it could be Northerns version of Quadrophenia, and will similarly be shredded by anoraks picking the details apart

I'm in agreement with Shane on this one. I think a good film with a good story will go over with a universal audience. The northern soul thing should just be incidental, a backdrop. I don't think northern soul as a subject is worthy of a movie plot. It's perfect documentary fodder as it's this "odd" thing that has to explained over and over again to the masses. If it's a period piece or even set in modern times, it should be enough to have a just have a killer soundtrack and some really good dance scenes. Done deal.

I'm also all for a good British or Irish comedy with one or more of the characters being a northern soul nut. In the movie "Once Upon a Time in the Midlands" I imagined what it would have been like if Rhys Ifans' character was full-on into soul. Remember how he drove around to "Bar B Q" by Wendy Rene? That's good stuff! That could have been built up to add to his character. The country guy up the street was brilliant.

It seems like working it into the plot is the way to go, not another pastiche thing like "Quadrophenia" so to speak. No matter what happens, anoraks will pick it apart but everyone will probably enjoy it anyway. Good scripts and good actors make good movies in the end.

My opinions...

I hope it comes out and it's done well.

PS. Shirley Henderson playing a northern soul DJ would really make me happy. She would make a good Anorak vinyl fiend. We can only dream...

In this day and age it could be the 'boy' who gets swapped for the labeat WDJ. As the metros sang 'in these changing times'.

Wow, now if I had a boy, I'd swop him for a LaBeat WD...all of them........in a heartbeat :P Jo

What`s wrong with a tragedy? It`s not meant to be fun you know.

Kid with asbergers syndrome hears footsee on a transistor while logging the trains passing through Crew station. Lives the rest of his life at 100mph & has a big Northern Soul funeral.

Boy meets girl, boy gets girl, boy gets LaBeat demo, girl divorces boy, boy has to sell LaBeat demo to pay off girl....This Won't Change

Quadrophenia a pastiche?!!!

Great movie, great story, great acting, well observed (except for the hairy scooterist extras in the Brighton scenes!), brilliantly directed and produced, fantastic music, crafted by Pete Townsend over many years, captured 2 generations..............I could go on.

Pastiche?? You don't know what you're on about.

Ah yes, but in some scenes you can quite clearly see a Ford Transit van of a model that was not available until the latter part of 1967, and one of the road signs is written in a size of script that wasn't utilised by Brighton council until 1971, although there is some argument that the font itself was used on new signs from late '64, so might just be accurate if on a pressed rather than printed plate. How can they even show this utter trash ?

Actually, I don't think much of the film and the music (IMVHO) is pants. But its a fair enough film and the scenes in London aren't so bad.

Yeah and the film gave birth to the Quad Mod. Still in evidence even to this day I believe.

May i suggest that if this film is made would it not be best to review/preview and debate when and if it comes out rather than speculating how good or bad it's gonna be.

Mark Bicknell.

Just heard Rod Shard has been offered a small part as 'record dealer one with glasses' and they asked me to be 'fat bloke at bar' in one of the club scenes...lol

I've now heard that it's a vampire movie.

The undead stalk amongst the all-nighter crowd backing unwary soulies into dark lonely corners where they bore you to death with the time that they went to the Casino with Tommo from Loughborough. A stake through the heart is too painless a death for these monsters!!

ROD

That part has got my name all over it.

I`ve been rehearsing it word for word at every nighter and am now word perfect.

The only problem I can see is how they will edit the 6 hours of talking without losing the essential bits.

5 years ago an ex-soulie now working for Universal was at a dinner party and as the conversion developed onto music he was amazed another film industry guy at the party, went to the Casino. They decided a film might be a good idea, along the lines of "Quadrophenia" He was in touch with me the week after asking if me to put together a bunch of "Old Skool" people who he could interview, so he could get a feel for a story he was in touch he over two months throwing ideas around, then all went dead.. and I not heard from him since, but I did move address and had a teleohone # change and I bet he's forgot my name. I'm trying to remember the film company's name..but I can't..any more info i'll let'cha know.

PS did you follow that lead I gave you in Richmond..?? I now have that other lead you wanted on the william Cimmings 45..

Mark,

I am indeed working on the movie. The project is not too far away from production.

The film makers will issue appropriate press releases as and when.

Another step forward for NORTHERN SOUL.

Another step forward for NORTHERN SOUL.

Inspiring words from the Fuhrerbunker, indeed. Northern Soul Lebensraum and a world fit for soulies!! Today Stoke, tomorrow Oswestry!!

Why stick at just the one?

Northern Soul 1 The Empires on Top,Girl

Northern Soul 2 Revenge of the Rotations

Northern Soul 3 Chewbacca does it "doggy style" with Lada Edmund Jr. Now, that I'd pay to see!!

If there are any small parts going, the wife says I already have one.
