Ed That's amazing, because I remember buying that and thinking what a load of shite it was, so I dug it out just now and guess what...it's still shite! An Ian levine ego trip with rubbish like Curtis Blandon, The Luv Bugs and so on with maybe 3 decent tracks. The one that Russ Winstanley compiled was better and that had Human Jungle on it! Like Dayo, first time I'd heard "Let Me Give You My Loving'' ditto the Masquerders 'Do you Love Me Baby'. 'In The Long Run ' is great, Luv Bugs is horrible though. Guest Dan Posted February 6, 2006 Share Posted February 6, 2006 kent floorshakers or footstompers, the two first northern records i bought. still remember the anticipation of waiting for a new one to come out. great ian clark covers - love the black guy in the mortar board pointing at the blackboard map of the states (can't remember the name of that one). also the weirdly magical feeling of holding the 50th on see-through bubblegum vinyl. kent all the way for me . For me its the 'This Is Northern Soul' compilation on Soul Supply with Jimmy McFarlands cut of "Lonely Lover" (the first or second I think?), but i still have a soft spot for the Inferno 'Soul Time' comp, one of the first i bought that had stuff on i didn't know at the time, unlike the 'Out On The Floor Tonight' album which was the first one i bought because I DID know a lot of the tracks Looking back at the 'Soul Time' comp, with respect its not THAT good... Best ever compilation has to be any of the early Kent LPs that really hit the spot. Out on the Floor on Inferno also took some beating. No offence taken, its all about opinions in this free world, but I am not sure I could tell the difference at 14 between quality soul and pop as I could now. The point was the compilation was made up of stuff that you never heard at the youthy or other soul nights, and stuff like Jack Montgomery and Billy Thompson were so different to the flasher/falbala/afternoon of the rhino etc. Ed Link to comment Social source share More sharing options...

Gems like Jimmy Burns, Tony Middleton, Morris Chestnut, Eddie Parker's "I'm Gone", Larry Clinton, Flame 'n' King, Carol Anderson blew me away. Can't argue really - OK it's got pointless nonsense like "Let's Do the Duck" and Gary Haines' "Keep On Going" but hey, you can't have everything. Richard Searling's sleevenotes allude to a magical glamorous and exclusive world that I, as a 14 year old was entirely captivated by. Heady days indeed. Love Sold on Soul, and also that boot thing that Colin Bee did, with Epitome of Sound, Sam & Kitty etc. But still for me Capitol .... is the best. Even now just hearing 'The end of our Love' reminds me of just how ing exciting hearing Northern Soul was to a 14 year old kid.
