Yes, this album was a defining moment in my life, after Chartbusters 3 there was no going back.

We did this in February https://www.soul-source.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=24545, Vol 3 was one of the forst Motown Albums I noticed, but this was my post from before

Has to be this one, I bought it on a cassette when it came out before I knew there was a scene. Loved it then, cassette long gone, but I picked this up mint at a charity shop for 50p. I still love it.was.

Totally agree, I mentioned this in your original thread as being the LP that we ALL had, way back when.

It was the standard, the benchmark, the alpha and the omega... and probably still is... as compilations go.

T'was the background to my first love affairs and early, furtive gropings. Each tune reminding me of a different girlfriend (I was a busy young fella) ...and "I'll Pick A Rose" still slays me to this day!

It had it all for dancing, snogging and crying. The soundtrack to youth.

Yes, truly special.

1 Marvin Gaye / I Heard It Through The Grapevine

2 Diana Ross & The Supremes And The Temptations / I'm Gonna Make You Love Me

3 Stevie Wonder / My Cherie Amour

4 Isley Brothers / This Old Heart Of Mine (Is Weak For You)

5 Marv Johnson / I'll Pick A Rose For My Rose

6 Diana Ross & The Supremes / No Matter What Sign You Are

7 Four Tops / I'm In A Different World

8 Martha Reeves & The Vandellas / Dancing In The Street

9 Stevie Wonder / For Once In My Life

10 Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell / You're All I Need To Get By

11 The Temptations / Get Ready

12 Edwin Starr / Stop Her On Sight (Sos)

13 Diana Ross & The Supremes / Love Child

14 Isley Brothers / Behind A Painted Smile

15 Jr Walker & The All Stars / (I'm A) Road Runner

16 Smokey Robinson & The Miracles / The Tracks Of My Tears

Deffo agree, remember well hanging round my then girlfriends house listening to her

collection of these albums. 16 at the time (girlfriend 14 - but don't tell her mum :-)

for sure this influenced a lot of us. I still have 2 x 4 Tops singles and the Spellbinders

on Direction I "borrowed" from another girlfriend when I was 15, never quite got round

to giving them back (anybody know Jan kemp from Guildford?:-( ) Timeless quality,

full of that zest for life we were looking for....................

Of all the chartbuster series i think it was Vol. 6 that did it for me.

Older brother had Vol.3, which is class, but Vol.6 was the first i bought with my own cash!

Cover was the big "flying bug" thing and tracks included, if memory serves, Temps "just my imagination"

and Velvelettes "these things will keep me loving you".

You realise i'm going to have to go and find it when i get home! whistling.gif

For my money HITSVILLE U.S.A. TML11019 issued in 1965 was the greatest compilation ever!!

And never since been re-issued in its original form.I won it from the MELODY MAKER after writting a letter praising DUSTY and GEORGIE FAME (rather than the Liverpool mob) for introducing a new, young audience to the music of BLACKAMERICA. Check it out.
