billy spivery chose to call his group the operators since his main claim to fame is that he composed the song "operator" - later made famous by manhattan transfer, although spivery had already recorded the song much earlier, and in fact the very first time he introduced it to the public was when his group the friendly brothers performed it onstage in a singing contest between his group and the womack brothers! bill spivery himself is a so-so singer imho, but the song i have uploaded features the powerful lead vocals of james morris. by far the best cut on his otherwise non-impressive 1978 lp "trouble with the operator".
