Unlike others who have posted on here, I'll declare an interest. I've known John Vincent for 30+ years, Rob Wicks for a good few and work at their venues. Rob has put his name to ALL of his statements. Don't tell me that the promoters of the City Hall event don't know whats been said on here. They can always answer, as a statement from themselves, via a member on here. They haven't done so. Who are you going to believe. Read Soultown Andys comments for previous actions of the people involved. Trust me, that man has no need to exaggerate or lie.

I have heard from a reliable source that the sheffield city hall allnighter is now due to shut at half 3 instead of the original closing hours.

sounds like a real shame as i was really geared up for this, but will now probably head to bury town hall instead.

It is on, but as stated it's a 3.30 finish due to a balls up with the late licence.

To reflect this the price has been reduced to £5 on the door.

I used to work for the company that runs the City Hall, and believe me when I say that it will have been a cock-up on their behalf. Personal experience proves that the management there are notoriously slack and I can say this as I'm friends with most of them...

This also probably explains why the venue has been hired out to another promoter - although let me point out that if the previous promoter didn't show interest in booking the place this year, they must have thought that the option of another promoter was worth following.

I'll be there with a pint in my hand no matter what time it finishes... it is a Friday afterall...and getting to bed a couple of hours earlier just leaves me with more energy for some Soulin' on Saturday night.

well city hall is done and dusted for tonight and despite all the bitching i've heard, and everyone as the right to there own opinion,all i can say is even though it ended early due to the fact that city hall didn't apply for a nighter licence a month in advance like they should of done ,they left it till tuesday just gone reason the early finish no fault of joe's nev's or sam's,well what a cracking night top music which at the end of the day is what it's all about,10/10 to all the dj's especially roger banks love ya rnb spots roger,i'l be going back thats for sure if the lads put another do on there.well time for me to hit the sack another venue to go to tomorrow like most of you so keep smiling and most of all keep the faith xxxx

Although I am not on the internet I have been made aware that for the second time (the first last November, after the Adelphi Allnighter) I am being severely critisized on soul source. My two main accusers being, Shane H and Soultown Andy. Shane H, I don't believe I know him so if he has any problem he is welcome to speak to me, to hear my side of the issue and take it from there. Soultown Andy, or give him his real name Andy McCabe, better known on the soul scene as the "poison dwarf", when I say something, it will be fact, Andy has had a lot to say about moving in on this that and the other (I will answer my accusers later with facts) which is rich considering he has not been back on the soul scene for long, muscled out people to gain allnighters at Sheridans, Middleton, Steam caused problems at other venues hence the name "poison dwarf".

I will now answer accusations made about me and facts about the issues. Last year Joe Turner decided he wanted to run a soul allnighter in Sheffield (where he lives and has his own security firm) he obtained the Adelphi venue, then asked his friend Nev Shooter to join him, they then approached me because of my contacts with DJ's and nighter crowds and that is how it started. The Adelphi was great on the night but due to circumstances we decided not to proceed with this venue. Early this year Joe, who does the security at the City Hall phoned to say he could get a nighter there, were we interested in going in with him, so as you can see no underhand stuff or trying to take anything off anyone, Joe didn't even know of J.V. or Rob Wicks or of any nights there previously.

I am not going to answer all the things that where put on this site only the more important ones.

1. Someone said I was trying to muscle in because of the decline and pulling down of Winsford Civic Hall.

Fact: For the last 7 Winsford Allnighters, they have got better each time. If they are pulling it down (this rumour circulated last year) non of the promotors have been informed.

2. We have taken the City Hall off John Vincent or anyone else.

Fact: The City Hall was there to be booked, I do not know if John or anyone else had met with the manager but if they had wanted to they could have booked it or could it be the price might have been too high or could it be they hadn't even bothered. I do not know the answer, only them and the manager know this so why accuse us of stabbing them in the back when if they had wanted to carry on then it was in their hands.

3. Trying to get Samantha's off John Vincent.

Fact: When at the last minute we found we could not have an allnighter licence we decided to try and get the venue changed to keep it an allnighter. Firstly we tried the Adelphi, then the University but no joy. Last Tuesday I decided to approach the venue that have the reunions, this is how the conversation went:- I am Sam Moore and should have been running an allnighter this Friday at the City Hall. I am in the Shit because licence has been refused, I wonder if there is any possiblity of hiring your two rooms for an allnighter this Friday. I know John Vincent runs soul do's there and there is no way I want to step on his toes or take it over it is just to get us out of this mess. The bar manager said he would see the manager and get him to phone me back, 2 hours later I phoned them back to be told by the bar manager he had given him the message and would remind him again, I got no reply until I finally got in contact with them approx 11.30am on the Thursday morning, when I was told by someone, don't know who, saying both rooms were booked, only to hear later rumours of me trying to get Sams.

Sorry this is so long winded but the whole thing needed addressing, I would just like to say when the internet is used as it was intended it is a great assett, unfortunately, if certain people decide to use it for their own ends it can be very destructive and venues can be ended before they get going. If these people are soulies then I feel insulted to be called one. Fortunately, these are a small minority and are not soulies, these are my views and no-one elses, anyone wishing to speak to me over any issue whatsoever, feel free to do so and I will answer as honestly as I can.

I feel I must reply to the comments made about Sheffield City Hall and Sam Moore. I think under the circumstances they did a good job considering they were told at the last minute they couldn't have the hours of an all nighter. At that late stage the venue had to proceed and the cost was therefore cut by half to just £5. I attended the venue and thoroughly enjoyed it. I do not know Soultown Andy but I do know Sam Moore and he is highly respected and contributes so much to the soul scene. As for only attending venues he promotes or that he is DJ'ing at, this is not the case as he is frequently seen at many local venues every week regardless of whether he is promoting them or not.

In reality this is where I come in on all this.

1.

I personally did not talk to the City Hall I left the old management team over four years ago to start my own company. I left Rob Wicks and Pat Brady to continue running the gig on their own, I had nothing to do with the event from that date.

2.

I am not interested in the gig, it is too big and the sound system is difficult to set up and the venue is too expensive!

3.

I started Samantha's in 1970 it is a venue I have always been associated with and I have been doing all nite gigs there for the last few years. NONE OF THESE GIGS ARE REUNIONS! They are events put on in the same groundbreaking style of the mid seventies.

I think it is totally out of order for a promoter to try and book it when it is currently in use on a regular basis for Northern Soul gigs.

Sam Moore has my mobile telephone number and at the very least should have rung me out of decency to discuss this with me.

4.

If the scene is going to degenerate in this sort of farsical scenario then there is no hope for anybody.

Let me make this quite clear after the last reference on a flyer about "putting the soul back into Sheffield"

I don't not take kindly to somebody (who ever it was) ringing up Sams and trying to book it when I have a regular contract for a set number of booking over the year.

And as for putting the soul back into Sheffield - well come on guys just remember who you are talking to.

How about a quick memory jog about what I have done for the scene in the last 36 years.

More than a thousand niters and broke more sounds that you can remember.

AND DON'T FORGET I AM PROMOTING FREE NITERS FOR THE SCENE WHAT ARE YOU DOING FOR IT?

Andy i have said previously, Yes... . i would once again reiterate .. that our club ran this venue for just short of five years, with support from the pondsforge lads in one of the satelite rooms until it closed for refurbishment...which took a further 18months. but like ive said aint going to fallout with anyone over it , however there is a surefired possibility we will continue with it then who's standing on who's toes. as for the sheffield lad he is not active and as never been on the sheffield scene as such, bit like one of us going down sams area and using a local just to try and make it look cosha, however somefolks do have ethics
