People I Miss Hanging Out With

Recommended Posts

Following on from the "Where's Derek Riches" thread:

You can say what you want and yes I know we're all joined by the common love of music (is that hippie talk?) but if you aint got good people around you things aint happening. Somebody said to me recently "that as we got older, good people that we used to enjoy hanging out with, don't go out any more". I knew what she meant.

Here's 2 lads I used to hang out with throughout the 90s at places like Keele & Tony's - great lads with great taste in music always willing to swop tapes. Always hustling buying and selling records. I could and would stand next to them for hours droning on about all things vinyl. There must be lots of others but I think about these 2 quite often.

The curtain opened and down the stairs walked Derek Thompson from Bristol and Rob Bullock from Birmingham.

Thats not to say I don't greatly enjoy hanging out with the people I currently mix with.

I feel a song coming on. derek

Is Derek from Bristol the old bloke that was deaf in one ear and wore a hat? If so, he was good fun. :shades:

You obviously also miss myself and my sister telling you that we were coming to saty, then taking over your tiny house and rifling through your things!

I miss you (just a little) even if its not reciprocated! ph34r.gif

One person i think about now and then was Jamie from Derby, i knew him for a while but never knew his second name despite going round his house a couple of times after nighters. He was tall with black curley hair and he was the nicest bloke i'd ever met on the scene. Sadly ODed about 1982. One of many sad losses. :shades:

Woody still get outs, at most of the weekenders, half time orange etc; he's in one of the galleries doing what he does best at the Lifeline weekender (f£cking about).

Saw Simon at the Stafford revival last year, seemed on good form

No, that was Jimmy "The Hat" Randle from Knottingley in West Yorkshire. He wasn`t that old-he just looked old. Used to dj every now and then at The Manifesto Club. He also had sinus troubles. Nobody`s seen him on the scene in a long time now. Last time I saw him was at the Griffin Hotel niter in Leeds. Stayed at my gaff overnight when he couldn`t get home and stayed three months. Sold me some good 45`s. A bit of a character. Mad as a hatter. Good laugh. Anyone seen him?

His second name was Saul, like you say he was one of the nicest lads on the scene, great knowledge of the music, and a well liked person, sadly missed.

Yes, Ken. If I remember rightly, she was hanging around him at the Griffin. He kind of introduced me to her-I thought it was his daughter or summat.. :) and he said he was going away with her..and I never sawe him again...If he is dead she killed him..and we all know how!!

Don`t think he`s dead though..he`s the type that could survive a nuclear war and stay around a couple of months after....

When you mention Pilky-is that my old mate Alan Pilkington? (Now sadly passed on?) Out for three days solid without sleep..Pilky gave me a lift home over the Pennines. Got on the motorway..he dozed off..I ended up steering the car from the left hand seat until he woke up. whistling.gif .His glasses came off and bounced off the dashboard. Nearly ended up on my nose..Got to my place..He collapsed on the settee and was out for about 13 hours...Happy days..

Hey up Kirsty, I could never forget you and your little sister's visits to my little abode. "It wasn't a house it was a record box with a bed in it" as Chris Holmes once said to me. Been meaning to reply to several of your previous posts but forgetfulness and a lack of time overtook me on the inside lane. Had a flick through your photo gallery (mid 90s) and it made me think "right I've pissballed about long enough thinking about posting up some old photos get it done Pearson". Expect me to start posting some up soon(ish). Our paths do cross at the Wilton so you're never far from my memory however the 2 lads I mentioned I never see any more. And yeah it was Derek T that was deaf in one ear - I'd forgotten about that - and he used to wear those heavily beaded caps that looked a bit like prayer caps. Chuddy used to wear one as well.

I remember Derek Pearson when he was just a lad starting out in the late 70's!! Sue Bushby

Hey up Sue - hows it going? I remember coming up to your house in Thorpe Edge on mi motor bike late 70s/early 80s, you were knitting me a petrol blue mohair jumper, remember? I wonder if I've got an old photo of me wearing it tucked away somewhere? take care, derek

Tony Smith - I often think about our trips over to Valencia late 90s - actually found an old spare flyer from those days shall I mail you it?

Hey up Trevski - bloody hell the Walls Brothers - had some mad times with Alan when he used to come down to the Bradford Queens Hall allnighters early 90s. Recall trips up to Allanton as well (I think?)

Recall Jimmy The Hat from the Leeds Griffin all-nighters mid 90's as well - I also heard he'd passed on.

Memories are great if you can remember them. Photographs are better.

derek

Where did you hear he`d passed on? Who told you? There`s some quite a lot of stuff about Jimmy Randle on here now. He`s more famous now than he ever was. Anyway, he`s not dead. Don`t believe it...

Most of them peeps go to Wilton! Only ones I've not seen for a bit are Maureen, Keeeith (what has happened to him - not seen him for about 10 years), Karen and Debbie (is she living in Spain yet/married?)

Mostly I miss Gaz Kellett, I get a phone call a year letting me know he's OK, and regular updates from Louie. I know he's started going to the odd do again - just not the odd do that I go to  It could be a conspiracy

Oh and I miss JOCK O'CONNOR too. Get your rotund arse down to Wilton - you know you'll have fun when you get there  Its not just me that'll be pleased to see you :D

  • 3 weeks later...

Simon T - Deb Troops is originally from Boston living in Delph (Saddleworth) now but Anita Holland is Oldham born and bred.

Kirsty - Deb's is still planning on going abroad somewhere (think still Spain) but her business is booming at the moment so she's stuck here still (not married though). Keep saying I'll get up to the Wilton but Fridays are a nightmare for babysitters :( Keeeith went a bit strange and lost it a bit (don't we all rolleyes.gif ) so he had a break. Last saw him about 3 years ago at Ritz Manchester.

Thought there could only be the one!

but Anita Holland is Oldham born and bred.

The Anita I'm thinking of worked as a nurse at Pilgirm hospital in Boston. Used to have a yellow mini, married a bloke called Steve and then moved to Manchester. Hung around a bit with Malc Evans before he went AWOL big time!
